In Liuzhou City, in the Guangxi region, residents are grabbing all the bottled water they can after unsafe cadmium levels were found in their water supply. Authorities say the water is safe, but locals aren't taking any chances. People in south China's Liuzhou City are rushing to buy bottled and canned water after a local river was reported to have been contaminated by cadmium. Cadmium pollution was detected in the Liujiang River in the Guangxi region last Thursday. Cadmium is a chemical that can cause cancer and damage people's kidneys. It was found more than 10 days after the wastewater from a local mining firm polluted a tributary upstream of the Liujiang River. A water test sample shows the river contains five times more cadmium than the safety standard. It's affecting more than three million people living nearby who have to rely on bottled water. About 30 tons of bottled water has been sold every day in large and medium-sized supermarkets over the past few days, and some supermarkets sold up to 100 tons. According to the latest water quality data released by local authorities, the cadmium content in the tainted river has been reduced to 0.004 milligram per liter and say it is safe to drink. But locals still feel safer drinking canned and bottled water. [Ms. Li, Liuzhou Citizen]: "...We adults can drink ... From: NTDTV Views: 44 3 ratings Time: 01:58 More in News & Politics

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me A mining company has polluted a major river in southern China. The deadly chemical contamination threatens millions of people living downstream. Cadmium pollution was detected in the Liujiang River in the Guangxi region last Thursday. Cadmium is a chemical that can cause cancer and damage people's kidneys. It was found more than 10 days after the wastewater from a local mining firm polluted Longjiang, a tributary upstream of the Liujiang River. A water test sample shows the river contains five times more cadmium than the safety standard. The affected areas have been reached 37 miles away from Liuzhou Dam, which sits on the Liujiang River. Local authorities warned residents not to fetch water from the polluted sections of the river. It's affecting more than three million people living nearby who have to rely on bottled water. Although it has been verified the pollution comes from the Guangxi Jinhe Mining Company, it's not clear when it started and the quantity of the discharge. [Huang He, Deputy Head of Environmental Protection Bureau, Hechi City]: "Guangxi Jinhe Mining Co. Ltd. is responsible for the pollution according to our initial investigation. The company had long been storing industrial waste at the foot of the hill, which was then discharged to the Longjiang River through underground water." Rescuers find another body on doomed cruise ship
www.euronews.net A rescue team has found the body of a woman on board Italy's capsized Costa Concordia cruise ship. The discovery brings the total death toll to at least 12. A spokesman for the rescue workers said the body had been taken on to dry land. The families of those missing had been contacted while tests will be carried out as the corpse was unrecognisable after a week in the water, the source added. The woman, who was wearing a life jacket, was found by divers on the fourth deck of the doomed liner. Twenty people are still unaccounted for. Alert: Iran Crisis Headed for World War III - Alex Jones Monday Edition 2/2

Kurt Nimmo http://www.infowars.com/ http://www.prisonplanet.tv January 9, 2012 War in the Middle East now appears imminent as the United States, Britain, the European Union, and Israel put the finishing touches on an embargo on Iran -- a de facto declaration of war -- and warships steam toward the Persian Gulf. Consider the following recent developments: U.S.-Israeli War Game in Persian Gulf On Friday, the U.S. and Israel announced they plan a massive military exercise in the Persian Gulf in an attempt to confront Iran. The exercise, dubbed "Austere Challenge 12," will include the participation of thousands of U.S. and Israeli soldiers and will test multiple air defense systems against incoming missiles and rockets. On January 2, during its last military exercise, Iran tested its Qader missile, a long-range sea-to-shore missile, and the surface-to-surface Nour missile. The Nour is an "advanced radar-evading, target-seeking, guided and controlled missile and can easily find its target and destroy it," IRNA reported, quoting 2nd Adm. Seyed Mahmoud Musavi. Iran Announces New War Game Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, naval commander for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, said on Friday Iran will conduct a second military exercise in the Persian Gulf in February. He said the drill would be "different compared to previous exercises held by the IRGC" but provided no additional details. Iran also launched a military maneuver near its border with Afghanistan on Saturday. Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Revolutionary Guards' ground forces, said the "Martyrs of Unity" exercises are "aimed at boosting security along the Iranian borders," Fars reported. British Warships Sent On Saturday, the British Royal Navy annoucned it is sending its most advanced warship to the Persian Gulf. The HMS Daring is a Type 45 destroyer that has the world's most sophisticated naval radar. Earlier in the week, British Defense Secretary Philip Hammond warned Iran against blocking the strait after Iran said it would take action if the United States sailed an aircraft carrier through the waterway following an Iranian 10-day military exercise designed to demonstrate its ability to close down the strategic oil passage. French and Russian Warships Off Syria The Israeli intelligence asset DEBKAfile reports today that the Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov anchored at Syria's Tartus port on the Mediterranean on Sunday and arrived with the destroyer Admiral Chabanenko and frigate Yaroslav Mudry. "To counter this movement, France consigned an air defense destroyer Forbin to the waters off Tartus," DEBKAfile claims. Reflecting Israel's propaganda line on Iran and Syria, DEBKAfile claims that its "military sources report the constant escalation of military tension around Iran and Syria in recent days as not just stemming from the rapid advances Iran is making toward production of a nuclear weapon, but from fears in the West and Israel that Tehran and Damascus are in step over their military plans for the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean sectors." http://www.infowars.com/alert-iran-crisis-headed-for-world-war-iii/
