Gloomy outlook from German steelmakers
www.euronews.com A gloomy outlook from Germany's two biggest steelmakers, ThyssenKrupp and Salzgitter. They are downbeat about earnings for the rest of the year believing the eurozone crisis will hit spending on factories and new equipment reducing demand for steel in the region. Both posted quarterly losses and ThyssenKrupp said it now expected the worldwide steel market to grow by less than four percent this year. ThyssenKrupp forecast a slump in operating earnings this year and Salzgitter reiterated it would be difficult to match last year's earnings figure. Data showed on Monday that strong industrial production in Germany in March could not make up for a slide in output across the rest of the eurozone, signalling an oncoming recession may be worse than expected. For ThyssenKrupp, the European slump comes on top of problems it has been having at its Steel Americas business, where cost overruns at mills in Brazil have caused losses. The company posted a net loss of 587 million euros in its fiscal second quarter through the end of March, down from a year-earlier profit of 272 million, due to another loss at Steel Americas and a mix of sliding prices and weak demand in Europe. Salzgitter, Germany's second largest steelmaker, posted a slightly bigger than expected quarterly loss as pricing pressure caused a loss at its steel business and it sold fewer large-diameter tubes such as gas pipelines. euronews focus - Yeosu Expo, sustaining ocean life
www.euronews.com South Korea has been celebrating the living oceans and coastlines. Yeosu Expo 2012 with its village of pavilions shows the country's determination to raise global awareness of the need for marine protection. Decorated with the symbol of the Korean flag, the pavilion of the host country has one of the more eye-catching designs on the Expo site. Once inside, the visitors who will be flocking here for the next three months are invited to take part in a traditional dance, before being shown a video on the huge dome screen which measures 30 metres in diameter. The futuristic Sea Orbiter of architect Jacques Rougerie, is central to the French pavilion. It uses currents to drift across the ocean and is a prototype, as designer Jacques Rougerie explains, "It's a vessel which can sail along the Gulfstream with 18 passengers on board who can continually gaze below the surface." Construction of the Sea Orbiter could start before the end of the year. Visitors of the Spanish pavilion enter a darkened space illuminated by the changing lights of the tubes with samples of water collected from 5000 metres below the surface. They evoke the 2010 Malaspina Expedition: a project aimed at evaluating the impact of climate change in the ocean. *Italy celebrates its ancient Marine Republics* Alongside Italy's newest technologies for exploring the sea and the recovery artistic artefacts are high definition holographic projections all attracting visitors. Sleeping Pods to Ease Olympic Congestion
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Having a lie down at work isn't usually something many companies tolerate, but British-based data services firm Interxion actively encourages it. It's installing sleeping pods to provide staff with a crash pad should they have problems getting to or from work. Interxion are operated out of London and the prospect of transport chaos during this summer's Olympics prompted the investment in the emergency sleeping quarters. Richard Warner is Interxion's marketing manager. [Richard Warner, Marketing Manager Interxion]: "Due to the nature of our business we need to make sure our customers' computers are running all the time 24/7. For example if there was congestion on the lines and an engineer couldn't get in, then their computers could go down and we just cannot allow that to happen." The scheme is going down well with employees too. Kyle Byott is an engineer at Interxion and welcomes the change. [Kyle Byott, Engineer]: "It's a great idea if I'm stuck at work%mdashwhich hopefully I won't be%mdashbut if I am stuck at work it means I'll have somewhere to stay for the time being." Transport chiefs are predicting long queues in at least 20 of the capital's Tube stations during the Games. The full extent of the problem won't be known until the Games gets underway in July. But Interxion has made sure it's not caught napping when it comes to ensuring business as usual. From: NTDTV Views: 225 7 ratings Time: 01:15 More in News & Politics

euronews innovation - The roaming recycler
www.euronews.com A mobile recycling facility being tested in eastern and southern Europe is aiming to get the most from electronic waste. Bernd Kopacek, managing director of SAT in Austria, explained: "We have developed a machine which is mobile, that means we can move from one recycler to another recycler and extract rare and precious substances from electronic waste, mainly metals, like for example, gold or silver or copper, or yttrium, lithium and so on." The mobile recycling system sits inside a container - and is currently parked on the outskirts of Belgrade. The idea is to give small recycling companies new ways to extract precious metals from electronic junk. Francesco Veglio, Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of L'Aquila in Italy, said: "As an example this is a powder that you find in cathode tubes, but this part of the waste that contains a large quantity of yttrium, nearly 10 per cent, is usually sent to the dump." The TV tubes are waste no more, as they are ground up and poured into the mix. Professor Francesco Veglio: "You could visualise our process as a bit like making coffee in the morning. We call this operation leaching. Water going through a solid that makes the coffee soluble. "Of course to help the recuperation of this element, for example as with the Yttrium that we find in this powder, we add chemical reagents that make this operation possible." The end results may look like sludge, but in fact Yttrium is a crucial element for ... From: Euronews Views: 334 10 ratings Time: 03:01 More in Shows

KE Diet: Brides Using Feeding Tubes Before Wedding
Via ABC News: "Brides-to-be looking to shed that final 10, 15 or 20 pounds in order to fit into their dream wedding gown have taken a controversial approach to crash dieting that involves inserting a feeding tube into their noses for up to 10 days for a quick fix to rapid weight loss. The KE diet, which boasts promises of shedding 20 pounds in 10 days, is an increasingly popular alternative to ordinary calorie-counting programs. The program has dieters inserting a feeding tube into their nose that runs to the stomach.
