Invisible barriers across Europe
www.euronews.com Being able to move and work freely across all the EU states is a fundamental right for EU citizens from all 27 countries. But although in theory the lights are green for go, the reality doesn't always match up. And EU citizens sometimes don't understand their rights in their host countries. The Netherlands opened its doors to workers from central and eastern European member states in 2007, three years after the enlargement of the EU. At one paprika farm, almost all the workers are Polish, like Martyna. She came here to earn enough to finance her studies in Poland. As citizens of the EU, Polish people don't need work permits, just a passport or a simple identity card. 350000 eastern Europeans currently live in the Netherlands. And during the economic crisis, the risk of discrimination has risen. The tone and content of Geert Wilders' website is a good example of this. His People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) is a xenophobic, anti-European far right organisation which accuses EU workers from central and eastern Europe of stealing jobs from the Dutch. Rob Rombout is the director of a company which recruits east European workers. According to him, this is nonsense. Migration within Europe can be multi-faceted. Most people manage very well, but others run into huge difficulties. In Heindoven, one information centre tries to help. NASA Asian-American History Month Profile -- Fran Lawas-Grodek
Fran Lawas-Grodek is a computer engineer of the Office of the Chief Information Officer, and has worked at GRC for 29 years. Born and raised in the Cleveland OH area as a first generation Filipino-American, Fran attended Cleveland State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science after switching majors from Accounting. Just before graduation, Fran was immediately hired to work for NASA Lewis Research Center during a mass fresh-out hire, where her experience and training with the IBM Job Control Language, database technology, and punch cards made her an asset for the business data processing branch, as they embarked upon a large migration to new IBM-compatible mainframes and database management systems from their old COBOL systems on the Univac mainframe. (image) This tutorial covers the final aspect of migrating away from MobileMe before it's closed down on June 30th, and that's MobileMe galleries. MobileMe galleries are a great way of sharing your photos and videos, but alas, will be no more as of June 30th, 2012. The week's tutorial takes a look at the current MobileMe gallery functionality and suggests some possible alternatives. In this first of a two part series, I take a look at ZangZing, a great online service that gives you up to 2GB of space for free (potentially up to 10GB free), has a clean modern interface and integrates with the usual social media services. Best of all, it integrates with a host of other online photo sharing services and can import photos online. And yes, that includes MobileMe galleries.

Freddie Flintoff Suffocates A Goat for the Maasai
Freddie is living as the Maasai do and must kill a goat. It is done by suffocation as the Maasai drink the blood, so every last drop is precious. "Freddie Flintoff Goes Wild" - Thursdays 9pm on the Discovery Channel UK Freddie heads first across the plains of the Serengeti for the annual wildebeest migration, but the journe is fraught with danger as predators are never far away. To ensure he's well equipped Freddie is taught by Maasai elder Thomas, who shows him how to hunt, fight and find water in the blistering heat of the African bush. But Freddie's experience is underlined by disconcerting news as the tribe he's staying with enter into a fierce battle with a neighbouring clan. #FreddieGoesWild #MyAdventure Follow us on twitter: @discoveryuk www.discoveryuk.com From: DiscoveryTV Views: 326 16 ratings Time: 01:13 More in Travel & Events
