The global environmental watchdog%mdashGreenpeace%mdashhas released its rankings for China's supermarkets to help consumers avoid stores that sell unsafe food. The best-ranked place to shop is Carrefour, and the worst ranked is Tesco. Amid a series of food safety scandals in China, Greenpeace has released its 2011 ranking of China's supermarkets. The aim is to help consumers avoid supermarkets that continue to sell unsafe food. This comes after a recent Greenpeace survey shows that most local fresh produce at five supermarkets in China contains pesticides. Some are banned or exceed legal limits. Last November, Greenpeace randomly sampled 35 items of fruits and vegetables from five supermarkets in Beijing, Chengdu, and Guangzhou. Thirty samples contain pesticides. Only 14 percent is pesticide-free. Greenpeace food and agriculture campaigner Wang Jing said, "With so many pesticides, it might seem impossible to find safe food." Wang said consumers' choice is the best deterrent: "If we choose not to buy unsafe food, then supermarkets won't sell them." According to Greenpeace, the best place to shop for pesticide-free food is Carrefour%mdashfollowed by Auchan and Shanghai City. The worst places are the Japanese Ito Yokado chain, Chengdu, and the British supermarket Tesco. Walmart is ranked 7th on the list. Five ranking criteria were used, including use of ... Hope & Anger: South Koreans React To Kim Jong Il's Death
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt Many South Koreans have gathered here, in Imjingak (EEM Gin Gahk), near the North Korean border to celebrate Kim Jong Il's death. His death has evoked strong emotions around the world but for many of these people it has a special meaning. They are former North Koreans who have risked their lives to escape to South Korea. They are now returning to send a message to North Korea by releasing balloons filled with 2 hundred thousand fliers. [Jang Saeyul, Representative Director, Liberation for North Koreans]: "For a longtime I've waited for this day. Anyway, I hope Kim Jong Il's death can be a good chance for China and the 23 million North Korean people to make peace with other countries." In North Korea, where information is tightly controlled, getting information from the outside world has to be done with balloons. The North Korean defectors have also included news about the fall of other dictatorships. [Han Changkweon, Chairman, Union of Defectors Against North Korea]: "Kim Jong Il should have died like Saddam Hussein or Colonel Gaddafi, being hung by his neck from the nation's judgment, but he died a natural death instead." After Kim Jong Il's death, the Korean stock market suddenly dropped, and the currency exchange rate increased. But Korean businessmen are reacting with a larger goal in mind. Chinese Officials Forbidden to Believe in Religion
For more news and videos visit ➡ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ http Add us on Facebook ➡ on.fb.me The Chinese Communist Party has forbidden belief in religion among its officials since the Party was founded. But after the policy reform in the 1980's, more officials have started to believe in religions. A senior Communist official recently published an article reiterating the CCP's stance. The article has attracted wide spread criticism from China and overseas. Content: A senior Chinese Communist Party official has re-affirmed the CCP's position that its Party members cannot believe in religion. Executive Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department or the CCP's Central Committee, Zhu Weiqun, had his comments published in the journal of the Central Committee, called "Seeking Truth." Zhu points out that increasingly more party members are joining religious activities, with some of them even becoming religious believers. Zhu complains of calls from within the Party to lift the ban on religion, stating, "Party members being forbidden to believe in religion has been a continuous rule in the Communist Party." He calls for a strengthening of Marxist and atheistic education in the Party. Yet many commentators believe that it's the Communist Party's policy of atheism that has led officials to search for a religious belief. [Jing Chu, Writer Based in Guangxi]: "The belief system of communism is already bankrupt, they just believe in power and personal ... For one Chinese, gonig blind didn't mean the lights went out in her quest to have her voice heard far and wide. At the age of 10 Dong Lina lost her eyesight, but that hasn't stopped her from realizing her dream. Dong, now a telephone program presenter, was sent to a school for the blind in Liaoning Province after losing her sight. After graduating, Dong found a job at a massage parlor. But it wasn't what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. [Dong Lina, Telephone Program Presenter]: "The thing I fear most is leading a routine life where everyday is the same, without any progress." Dong was one step closer to her dream when she came across an advertisement offering free presenter training from a charity organization for the blind. Leaving her job in Dalian, she arrived at the charity organization in Beijing to pursue her dream as a presenter. Dong worked really hard. [Wang Weili, Voice Teacher]: "She would knock on my door early in the morning, sometimes when I was still in bed or had just woken up. She would start practicing as soon as she entered the room." Anger Over Delay in Deadly High Speed Rail Report
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt It's been more than four months since a deadly train crash put the brakes on China's booming high-speed rail industry. Now investigators say they have finished looking into the Wenzhou accident, and will soon release the findings. But they aren't saying when. Commentators say authorities may be finding it hard to publish the report, because of its impact on the industry. On Tuesday, spokesman of the State Administration of Work Safety, Huang Yi, announced the investigation into the deadly high-speed rail crash that happened in Wenzhou in July has been completed. He said the report of the investigation will soon be released, but did not specify a date. Many wonder why the report hasn't already been made public, especially after authorities earlier said findings would be published nearly two months ago in mid-September. Commentators have been speculating over a perceived hesitation by authorities to explain the cause of the crash. Some believe they can't decide whom to blame in order to contain the damage to the industry. Placing fault on the signal equipment may damage suppliers' reputation, and hurt the Chinese regime's effort to export its high-speed rail technology. If railway management is at fault, though, too many departments may be implicated. [Jing Chu, Chinese Author]: "The Communist Party always has a hand in substandard construction.
