DIY No-Sew Caftan Video
[LESS INFO] 172 VIEWS | ADDED 20:00:00 02/03/12
For all of our non-sewers and sewers alike, here is a DIY caftan you can make without sewing skills. Caftans are free-flowing long tunics that originated in the middle east centuries ago. They have re-emerged throughout fashion history many times, most notably in the late 60's-early 70's (think Mrs. Roper and Maude). I, myself, LOVE a modern day caftan for lounging, relaxing, or accessorizing and wearing out.
Sewers can sew instead of use the tape I show, and feel free to play with different fabrics and the depth of your slits and arm holes. I got this beautiful fabric at Britex . Really light, airy fabrics or silk give a really sexy look.
CARE: Most caftans (due to the fabric) are hand wash or spot clean. The trade off with the no-sew caftan is that the tape means a bit more time is necessary for care. I recommend spot cleaning with the no-sew option. Replace the tape with a straight stitch if you want to throw your caftan in the washing machine.

Song from Tibet : Apha / Father (HH Dalai Lama) by Dekyi Tsering (English Sub)
Translated by Khechok Click here for more videos : www.youtube.com Lyrics below : - - - - Apha (Father) - - - - In the center of a family, illuminate the ever-burning lamp To great loving father, who carries the hopes of his children I offer you the lamp of my heart As I offer incense in the morning, I consecrate the best wishes In the praising of "Kyi Kyi So So", and in the rising of the white smoke I send hundreds and thousands of prayers How have you been, long separated, far away, and much-missed father? How are you brothers and sisters, who have left your homes? The fatherland with the dying grassland, and the black tent that merely withstands the storm Its children never hear the sound of happiness, They wash their faces with the tears of sadness Never have they experienced the happiness of being reunited, Only do they hear the sound of sad sighs Never have they experienced the happiness of being reunited, Day after day, night after night, year after year Khyen Khyen Lama Khyen... Oh, my dear Lama, my great loving father, Please don't be sad Though the warmth is absent in our homes We can feel the warmth from your words of wisdom We are the successors of your pursuit We will materialize your dreams We will work hard at learning Tibetan Our language will never be forgotten Our traditions will be passed on Our food will be enjoyed, moreover Our fatherland will be loved from the bottom of our hearts Dear father, You are the one that I will ever forget You are the one ... Take a behind the scenes look at the deleted scenes from The Making of George Sabra's Plastic Caps Sculpture! The Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup is the BIGGEST scuba diving and shoreline cleanup in Texas. The event invites several hundred certified scuba divers and shoreline volunteers to help round-up trash from the bottom of Lake Travis and 11 Travis County Parks around the lake. The cleanup is followed by a volunteer thank-you party & is a great event for ALL ages! RAIN OR SHINE! September 11th we united with volunteers across the nation to make the tenth anniversary of 9/11 one of service and remembrance. 2011 RESULTS - 848 volunteers (379 Divers, 398 shoreline, and 71 party volunteers). 1.64 Tons of litter removed. $37,725.45 worth of Volunteer Hours! Most Unique items found: Divers-40 Foot Deep Anchor and Shoreline-Old Radio. Be the Change Austin recruited 1,000 volunteers this year to make wonderful things happen all over the City of Austin. Be the Change is an annual national day of service coordinated by South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) to inspire and foster civic engagement through volunteerism and community service. Every year, thousands of participants across the country contribute innumerable hours of community service in the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Be the Change has allocated 300 of their Volunteers to a work day at Montopolis Greenbelt. In a part of the city not known for its greenbelts, Montopolis Greenbelt is a property with rich historical relevance, and is in substantial need of care and maintenance. Previously used as a dumping ground, stakeholders have held workdays wherein approximately 2,000 tires, an air conditioning unit, a washing machine, and a dishwasher were pulled out of the greenbelt proper and its waterways. The property is also ravaged by invasive plants, and full of trash and debris. Undoubtedly much progress will be made on this continually improving natural and historical preserve with the help of Be the Change Volunteers. The plastic caps sculpture was on display outside Austin City Hall during the Green City Festival on Sunday October 23, 2011. Sculptor George Sabra create a large scale public sculpture 21 feet made from thousands of discarded, reclaimed plastic caps and lids. Episode 026: Trouble By The Foot
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 04:48:53 01/07/12
My Meat Foot. Ok, Ok, Ok, so maybe I shouldn?t have gone all the way to ABC at 21,000 feet. The funny thing is that the altitude wasn?t a problem. Only in the morning. I?d wake up and would have my vision be somewhat spotty, strobing and tracing. After I?d stumble down the path to the ?bathroom? and nearly careen down the slope into the Romanian tents (ABC has no ground, it?s all a glacial moraine which means it?s all loose rock like a scree slope) my vision would clear up. Usually just as I was pulling down my pants to do my business in the open air toilet I?d look over and see a member of the British Royal Navy Team squatting on his open air toilet and we?d wave to each other. Friendship in misery. After a time at ABC, I realized it was beautiful but it sucked up there. You just can?t rest. The entire time you can feel your body deteriorating. So, it was time to climb down. I made the 22km in one very long day but it was very painful. In fact I totally messed up my left foot. I?ve never had a problem with my boots, but leave it to Everest to change that. The trail is only loose rock and every step I took pounded my toenail into the front of the boot. By the time I made it back to BC, I knew it was a bad situation. I had a terrible pain in that Big Toe, but I was just too tired to deal with it that evening. I slept and the next morning inspected the damage. My toe didn?t look like a toe anymore. In fact, one of my French friends, Bertrand, described it as a sausage floating in water. It was really surreal to look at my toe and think it was an alien. Luckily, my Russian friends have a doctor here at Base Camp. I?m really good friends with him, Dmitri. I hobbled over to the camp and went into their Comm tent. He wasn?t there but some other friends were. Vova said he thought I looked in pain. I took off my sock and they all yelped in Russian. Vova jumped up, slapped me on the shoulder and ran out to find Dr. Dima. Minutes later my foot was in this huge surgeon?s fleeced lap. He said it would take a small operation and that I would be fine. He said something in Russian to Vova who immediately jumped up and disappeared from the tent. Seconds later he returned with a bottle of whiskey. Dima handed the bottle and suggested I drink up.?For pain.? I grabbed the bottle and thought of every Old West movie I?d ever seen, looking around for a wooden spoon or something to put between my teeth and bite down on. I raised the bottle to my lips and was about to drink when Dima grabbed the bottle. The joke was on me. The whiskey was actually rubbing alcohol and he was only kidding about me needing to drink up. Apparently Russian airlines do not allow the passengers to transport running alcohol in their luggage, yet they DO allow unbelievably high proof liquor. Dima simply fills an empty whiskey bottle with rubbing alcohol and can easily sneak it through security! I washed my foot, then Dima shot my toe up with novocain and sterilized his tools with the alcohol and cut here and there releasing pressure, then cut away the nail. It was gross, but I was fascinated! Afterwards, he put a ton of Russian antibiotic cream on it and wrapped it in sterile gauze his wife had carefully prepared in St Petersburg (she?s apparently an anesthesiologist). In 30 minutes it was all taken care of and only hurt a lot for a minute. That was 3 days ago and every morning Dima comes over and gently changes my dressing. These people are so great. I offered to pay since I have some cash on me but Dima just raised his finger to his head and twirled his finger to say I was crazy. I almost cried. I would be totally in trouble of infection without him. But he really cares about my well being and I?m being taken care of with immaculate care. He said I was his first American patient and I said he was my first Russian doctor. All in broken English, of course. I?ll never forget the generosity I?ve experienced here. I?m sitting in their Comm tent right now using their generator since mine is busted again. Everyone is glad I?m here and it?s wonderful. Everest North Side would be a totally dead landscape if it weren?t for all of the great people. They?re what I?m going to remember, not the Mountain. Jon Miller Total Running Time: 23:28

SNL Takes a Shot at Mayor Bloomberg for His Response to #OWS Protesters
[LESS INFO] 5 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:06 10/17/11
SNL took a shot at New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his response to the Occupy Wall Street protests, painting him as deciding to use the protests as a way to promote New York tourism and now being supportive of the protesters.
The best one I think was the attempt by the city to run the protesters out of there permanently because they wanted to clean park: >
BLOOMBERG: Whatever you may have heard, I want to make demonstrators as welcome and as comfortable as possible. Yet, sometimes things do not go as planned. This week my office had arranged to clear the park of protesters so the area could be power washed. The protesters became upset and some went so far as to suggest that the power washing was simply a ruse to break up the demonstration. Nonsense. As all New Yorkers know, various parts of the city are routinely power washed. Power washing is a New York institution and without it, the Big Apple would lose its reputation as the world's cleanest and most thoroughly sanitized city – with streets, as the saying goes, you can eat off.
SNL also had Bloomberg suggesting that he's really not all that rich and the protesters go show up at other rich people's homes that they should be upset with besides himself such as George Soros, Jamie Dimon and Alex Rodriguez.
SNL is always pretty milquetoast when it comes to them weighing in on the political issues of the day and this was no exception, but the fact that the movement made its way to the opening segment of Saturday Night Live at least means that for now, those out there protesting are garnering some national attention and that hopefully their concerns are not going to be ignored by the media and easily dismissed as just some fringe movement that does not represent the frustrations of a good deal of the American public.
The fact that Bloomberg was being mocked as opposed to the protesters as we've seen from Fox, who sneers at them 24/7, is at least a step in the right direction with our political dialog and hopefully gets more people to pay attention to why they're out there to begin with and looking into it if they haven't been paying attention already.
