Mitt Romney Whines About "Vast Left Wing Conspiracy" In Media; Howie Kurtz Sympathizes

Playing the refs during elections is nothing new, and that's more or less what Mitt Romney might have been doing when he told Breitbart TV Tuesday there was a "quote, vast left wing conspiracy " shifting the winds of media coverage toward Barack Obama.
Excuse me while I howl with laughter for a minute.
There, that's better. Now Romney was being asked about Media Matters at the time. You know Media Matters , right? They clip actual words that actual people say on the air and broadcast out to viewers. They either let the clips stand as they are or sometimes post a little explanation about how wrong they are. And all the Breitbart TV interviewer was doing was offering up an invitation for Mitt to join the " revoke Media Matters' tax-exempt status " gang on the right. Media Matters is the left side's answer to the right's Media Research Center, and it does great work, but it isn't "media."
Mitt chose instead to criticize all media everywhere for their alleged bias toward the President, which really did a wonderful job of highlighting Howard Kurtz' uselessness for everyone to see. I see at least two important points to make here.
First, if the media was actually doing their job, they'd start calling Mitt and Ann Romney the liars they are . They lie about everything from important policy choices to minor things like the dog on the roof. They lie about what they said, they lie about what they believe, and they do it knowing full well a record is out there contradicting their position of the day.
They can be this cynical because the mainstream media lets them be. They don't actually use the word "lie." They use other, kinder forms to describe what Romney does. I am not talking about things that are at all vague. These are lies like "I never said that the economy got worse under Barack Obama" when he had just said it the day before. The shifting sands under his feet kind of lies that change depending on who his audience is. Those kinds of lies, which get reported as "Did Mitt Romney Misspeak?" or something equally full of milquetoast.
Yet no one in the media, critic or otherwise, will actually step up and call a lie a lie. In fact, US News & World Report claimed the "Etch a Sketch" story was proof positive of bias against Romney, despite the fact that it confirmed the cynical lies this campaign feels comfortable shooting into the mainstream.
Also this week, Mitt lied about his relationship with SB1070 author Kris Kobach, trying to distance himself from Kobach's radical, draconian immigration law and his cozy relationship with ALEC. Yet again, we hear nothing from Kurtz about this, even after Romney somewhat reluctantly admitted that yes, Kobach was an advisor to his campaign.
My second point is this: What happened when Hillary Clinton suggested there was a 'vast right wing conspiracy'? Kurtz himself belittled Clinton's candidacy for the 2008 nomination moaning that they'd "have to endure" all of it over again, including the "vast right wing conspiracy."
Wingers had a field day , courtesy of the mainstream press. Clinton was belittled, ridiculed, and bedeviled by those words, despite the fact that she was right.
Fast forward to 2012, and here's what we get from the so-called objective media: Crickets. Here's what we get from the right-biased media:
Some media critic you are, Howie. There's a special place in hell for people who are too cowardly to call a lie a lie, and instead play the "everyone does it" game.

Black Man tries To Kill Racist Dog German Shepherd Loses Eye
[LESS INFO] 25 VIEWS | ADDED 06:48:20 08/09/11
"http://sweetness-light.com/archive/man-arrested-for-attacking-racist-dog A prejudiced pooch that reportedly disliked minorities was slashed last night by a black man who had grown tired of the dogs incessant barking at him, police said. The German Shepherd lost an eye, and the alleged slasher — who worked for an oil delivery business where the dog stood guard — was arrested on a felony aggravated cruelty charge. Andrew Owens, 58, was arraigned this morning in City Court after spending the night in jail. The dog reacts to black people, Hispanics, anyone who is not white, owner Paul Tocco said. She always barked at him. He (Owens) was well aware the dog didnt like him, and he knew to stay away from her. A detective for the SPCA of Westchester said the slashing was unprovoked. It took place around 7 p.m., as the dog, a four-year-old named Jenna, was leashed outside Valley Oil at 707 Nepperhan Ave. Owens, who worked there as a handyman, had threatened to kill the dog in the past and told authorities it had bitten him about a year ago. Last night, he egged on the barking dog and charged at her, Detective Ken Ross III said. He allegedly then pulled out a nine-inch folding knife. He taunted her with his arm, raised his arm with a knife and slashed the dog across the face, he said. He cut the dog over the right eye, all the way down to the eye socket bone. Tocco, whose family runs the business, said he heard the dogs barking, went outside and saw Owens strike the dog. The dog let out a loud yelp, and when I ran there, she turned her head toward me and I seen [sic] the whole right side of her head bleeding, Tocco said. Rather than going after Owens, Tocco placed Jenna in a work van and drove her to a Greenburgh animal hospital. A veterinarian performed emergency surgery, but the eye couldnt be saved, Ross said. Today, the dog was transferred to an animal hospital in Scarsdale. The dog is supposedly in good spirits and is okay now, Ross said. But it did lose the eye. The detective said hes uncertain why Owens allegedly acted out on this occassion [sic]. He never liked the dog, Ross said. The dog did not bite him yesterday. It appears everything was done out of anger. He might have just snapped. Owens, who lives nearby, was arrested at his apartment at 10:20 p.m. Tocco said he will never allow Owens to work there again. We dont want him around here anymore, he said. We are not sure why Mr. Owens was arrested. Still, our hero can take solace in the fact that once he gets his ACLU/NAACP attorney he will be well on his way to riches"

Sam Kurshan, Vallejo resident My name is Sam Kurshan, I am a Vallejo resident. I have been down to the Glen Cove site countless times over the last two years. Every single time I have gone down there, including during this occupation that's gone on for the last 12 weeks, I've seen nothing but compassion, respect, kindness, love, enlightenment, from every single person down there. These people have a cultural respect for this situation and land that many Caucasians and other Americans who are not Native Americans can't grasp because they haven't been there. They don't understand it and they never will. And I read comments about what people think and feel about this situation, and some of the remarks illustrate the ignorance that actually borders on racism, about drum beaters and morons in moccasins, and just some terrible, terrible comments that show the total lack of tolerance and understanding. And I have to say, it's born out of ignorance. But ignorance can always be cured by education if there's a willingness to learn. And it seems like some people just don't want to learn. And that's why people like the lady from the Glen Cove association has her feelings. And in my opinion, that's why she, um, embellished them - that's a kind word for me - as to whats really going on down there, which isn't. There are plenty of children down there, there are dog walkers, joggers, fishermen, everybody coming down there to respect the land and the people who are down there. Its not an occupation. If the city can make a value judgement as to whether to pass a tax on something that's illegal, without worrying about the repercussions of the federal government coming down on them, because in good conscience they think its the right thing to do -- then you can't question the motives of people who decide to become activists about something they believe in, in their heart and soul. They're not squatters or trespassers. These are people who believe with every breath of life that they have in what they're doing. And what they're trying to stop down there is wrong. Its wrong, its a beautiful area. You don't need to put a bathroom and a parking lot on the burial grounds of other human beings. There's a park nearby, there are other lands that could be enhanced, there are many different things that could be done. And the cultural easement that they're asking for now, I really believe is the right direction to go in. I hope that the City Council does everything they can to get this thing resolved. I know in my heart that this City Council will never, ever let this turn in to a violent confrontation with forcible removal down there. This city has an opportunity now to be seen in the eyes of the country and the world as a city with care, and compassion, and love. Not a brutal city, that is gonna by brute force remove people because they believe in what they're doing. Thank you.
