Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a contest where we invite students in the United States to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google's homepage logo for millions to see. This year we ask students to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, "If I could travel in time, I'd visit..." Candy Claws - "Silent Time Of Earth": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Ryan Hover and Kay Bertholf, composers, arrangers, and principle songwriters of Candy Claws, wrote Hidden Lands on keyboard because they don\'t know how to play keyboard. They had to rely completely on what sounded right, rather than rely on techniques they had learned. Strange chords and melodies arose that might sound \"wrong\" to the trained musician, but sound mysterious and exciting to them. Each song on Hidden Lands contains a sample of every other song on the album. They'd used this technique on previous releases, but this time around it happens throughout the whole album, creating a very cohesive listening experience. Sometimes you\'ll be able to recognize a bit of a song within another, but perhaps more interesting are the references only your subconscious will catch. Without you noticing, your mind (and maybe your heart!) will make the connections, bridging the bridge of one song to the intro of another, taking in the album as a whole, just like albums should be. Hidden Lands, their second album and first on twosyllable records, is a musical companion to Richard M. Ketchum\'s book, The Secret Life of the Forest. To derive lyrics, the band borrowed paragraphs from the book and used translation software to translate them back and forth between English and Japanese until they equalized, finding very cool phrases along the way. The resulting lyrics are almost nothing like the original words, but are actually some very insightful and poetic phrases (\"Trees, like all ... The Good The Bad - "023": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
The Good The Bad are neither just good, nor bad & they're definitely not ugly. They're three Danish desperados, bringing the finest New School Surf & Flamenco to the worthy masses. In fact, their lip-trembling, bone-rattling, hip-shaking dirty cool has been increasing the birth-rate in Denmark by the day ever since their own explosive conception just one year ago. That's why in such a short time, TGTB were invited to play Roskilde Festival, German showcase festival Popkomm in Berlin and a Christmas mini-tour in London, followed by a quick jaunt to Norway. In 2009, after more English fun at Liverpool Sound City, Hop Farm Festival and a Harley Davidson European Rally in Latvia, TGTB rocked THE KILLERS aftershow party after their Royal Albert Hall gig in London. When they're not touring Europe, The Good The Bad can be found blowing the faces off people in their native city of Copenhagen, where they've impressed the more established underground scene and gained a firm fan-base. The band includes The Adam (Baby Woodrose, The Setting Son) on lead guitar, Johan Lei Gellett (Baby Woodrose, Kira and the Kindred Spirits) on drums and Manoj Ramdas (The Raveonettes, SPEkTR) on bariton guitar. "We don't have a singer because we couldn't find one that would stand behind the drummer. But we don't need a vocalist anyway. The music speaks for itself. We use the music so we don't have to say I Love You" says Adam. From: sxsw Views: 115 6 ratings Time: 02:18 More in Music

Roscoe Dash - "Good Good Night": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Atlanta breeds its fair share of music milestones and Roscoe Dash will be no exception. The rapper made major noise in '09 with the party-starting radio smash "All The Way Turnt Up!" featuring Soulja Boy. Now, with the impending release of his debut JUICE, and the 1st single "Good Good Night" Roscoe will soon write his own page in history. Roscoe was an inquisitive and bright child who learned about Hip-Hop from his older brother Erik. "My brother used to make beats in the basement," says Dash. "When he'd leave the house, I'd steal the beats off of his computer and record them on a karaoke machine." Dash continued to record songs in his basement and distribute them at school and at parties. His networking efforts led him to his cousin Torrey "YT" Hood, an investor in the Stone Mountain-based trio Travis Porter. Dash became cool with the group and hung out with them from time to time. One day, in a car on the way to a club in 2009, Dash let YT and Travis Porter member Strap hear a song he'd just recorded entitled "All The Way Turnt Up!" Strap listened to the song and immediately wanted to get on it. Because Travis Porter had an established local name, Dash figured it would help his cause if he incorporated the group into the song. Clearing two verses off of the track -- the first verse, hook and intro remained -- Dash handed the song over to Travis Porter. While Dash negotiated joining the Porterhouse fold, Travis Porter released the I'm A Differenter 2 mixtape on August 1 ... From: sxsw Views: 109 1 ratings Time: 03:34 More in Music

I Love Tim Tebow

Welcome to RideThePine.com
I love Tim Tebow . There I said it. I love the fact that he doesn’t have the talent or skills of other NFL players but finds a way to win. I love that he beat the Pittsburgh Steelers , one of the most evil teams on and off the field in recent memories. I love the fact that people hate Tim Tebow because of his religious beliefs but seem to forget the Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault, twice. I love that this ref threw up the shocker right before overtime. I love that the NFL on CBS crew all Tebowed at the end of their post game show because it gave us a few moments of silence instead of listening to Shannon Sharpe butcher the english language. I love that Big Ben bought this hat thinking he was going to look so cool in the post game press conference , you don’t.

Episode 022: French Cooking, Part 1

Do You Want Fries With That? A few days ago the final 4 members of our Everest expedition arrived at BC. Two Frenchmen, a Belgian and a Sherpa drove up from Tingri. Kind of sounds like the opening to a bad joke, but I have no idea what the punch line would be! The two French climbers are Bertrand and Alain, the Belgian is Andre and the Sherpa is Dawa Chiri whom I met back in Kathmandu. I?m very pleased to have them here; they seem like very interesting people. Everyone but Andre speaks a bit of english. Andre is a 68-year-old climber who will be attempting Everest for the second time. If successful, he?ll be the oldest climber to summit the world?s highest peak. Alain and Andre are doing well after arriving at 17,000 feet but Bertrand has been suffering from a touch of the altitude sickness. Today we rolled out their rented Gamow bag and tried it out. It?s a small hyperbaric chamber used to simulate lower altitudes. You can tell that we all must be suffering from the lack of oxygen up here since we placed the bag in direct sunlight! Bertrand climbed into the airtight bag and we all took turns pumping it full of air. Everything seemed fine until I noticed that Bertrand?s little porthole window was fogging up. The sun is quite powerful up here and I soon realized that it was slowly cooking this poor, afflicted frenchman! The horror, the horror? After about 45 minutes we released him from his pressure cooker and as soon as his damp clothing touched the cool BC air he immediately became cold and shivering. Ah, climbing Everest is so glamorous. Jon Miller Total Running Time: 18:44

CRANKWALKED! 7-bolt teardown 1080HD
One for the weekend warriors... Audio track by RojoDelChocolate. And that really is Mr. Chocolate himself playing some jungle-action on his drum kit to a bunch of garage band loops. Give the man some props! Here's the 48000 mile-old 7-bolt I blew up this summer after over 150 drag passes, a half dozen dyno sessions, 4 transmissions, 3 clutches and 10 years of hard all-weather use. The cleanliness of the crankcase and overall lack of carbon buildup is a testament to the quality of Mobil1 Synthetic oil. Now this is a story all about how My bearings got flipped-turned upside down And I liked to take a minute just sit right there And tell you how I used to mix and burn my gas and my air. In RVA suburbs born and raised On the dragstrip is where I spent most of my days Chillin out, maxin, relaxing all cool, And all shooting some BS outside with my tools When a couple of guys who were up to no good Started running races in my neighborhood I heard one little knock and my rods got scared And said "You put it in the garage until you figure out where..." I Begged and pleaded that it not be that way, But it didn't want to start and run another day. I kissed it goodbye, because the motor punched its ticket I got out my camera, said "I might as well kick it." Crankwalk yo this is bad Drinking metal shavings from an oil pan.
