Dylan is talking today about his love of HootSuite as a Twitter client. He hates having to run extra apps and software on his machine, such as Adobe Air. HootSuite is nice and simple, and uses very little resources.
HootSuite touts itself as a social media dashboard, and not just a Twitter client. Manage multiple social networks, track your statistics and add team members to your account, right from within one simple interface.
There are even more goodies to be uncovered in this little program:
* Add custom link parameters for tracking clicks and gathering information on your audience.
* View, manage, schedule and post directly to your WordPress blog from HootSuite.
* See who’s following you and who you’re following, see their Klout score and manage your Lists.
* Upload images and files right into your messages. The files are instantly converted into super-short Owly links for space saving and easy sharing.
* Provide rich, nourishing content to your followers at any time of day using the HootSuite tweet scheduler.
* Know what Tweet your followers are replying to with our threaded conversation.
Which Twitter desktop client are you using, and why?
Thanks to Dylan for another excellent tutorial. Keep an eye out for a new video from him on our channels every Friday.

A brief overview of publishing a post (or a page) in WordPress 2.9.2. I go over selecting a category (or categories), adding the title, typing in content, pasting in content (from Microsoft Word), uploading an image, adding an image title, an image caption, choosing the thumbnail size and selecting to have that thumbnail open up the larger image. Also deleting a post or editing existing posts. Ten minutes never went by so quickly ... ;-)

WordPress has a few options built into the core that allow you to add a gallery of images. In this video screencast, I'll walk through uploading images, adding them to a WordPress gallery, but also how to add them one by one to a post so you have a bit more control over the layout.

We wanted to get some images into WordPress side by side and with captions, but also in categories on the same page. So WordPress's new (since 2.5) built-in gallery would have worked just fine if it weren't for the different galleries on the same page (and maybe that's possible, but I just don't know how to do it). So using just the new-ish image browser, I put captions onto images and inserted them side-by-side (align: left) on the page then categorized with just text (heading text with a clear line break to get specific). But inserting images into the posts using the visual viewer was a bit cumbersome, so I flipped back to the HTML viewer to see better where I was inserting the images. NextGen gallery probably would have worked just as well, but I'm always trying to not use plugins if I don't have to.

WordPress 2.6 (and 2.6.1) uses a new media manager that helps upload, resize, edit, insert and even add captions to images in your posts and pages. Especially captions are handy as they are tricky to get right using CSS (style sheets).
