According to the Hollywood reporter, Disney has put Order of the Seven, its planned Asia-set adventure movie, on hold indefinitely. For those of you unfamiliar with the project--- it began as a retelling of the classic Snow White fable, but was to be set in 19th century Hong Kong and focus on a young woman who seeks refuge with a band of kung-fu fighting warriors who battle demons and dragons. Production was focusing on casting the band of dwarves and polishing the script with Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby just before Disney pulled the plug. So why the sudden change of heart? Despite the mega success of The Avengers, the studio is still reeling from the huge failure of John Carter at the box office and didn't feel comfortable with the budget on the film. Add in a first time director, the lack of a studio head and the market already flooded with Snow White films including Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts and Lily Collins, which managed to barely cross the $100 million global box office mark. Perhaps if Universal's Snow White and the Huntsmen does better, as it's expected to do, Disney may end up changing its mind on Order of the Seven. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sir Ridley Scott is already lining up plans to start production on Prometheus 2, which he hopes to start as soon as a couple of his other projects are completed. Since Prometheus is tied to the "Alien" chronology, the sequel's potential scriptwriter Damon Lindelof clarifies that a Prometheus sequel will not be another Alien film. He tells E Weekly: I look at it more like a story that is running parallel to the original Alien, so that if there was a sequel to this movie, it would not be Alien, it would be Prometheus 2. And then Prometheus 2 is parallel to Aliens. Considering Prometheus 1 is one of the most anticipated films of the year, its box office results will certainly warrant a sequel. To the delights of many film fans, Fox has confirmed that Ridley Scott's Alien-ish prequel Prometheus will hit theaters with an R rating, but what does this mean for its box office potential? While at CinemaCon, 20th Century Fox Co-Chairman Tom Rothman spoke with Collider about fan concerns that Prometheus would be a watered down version of its predecessors if given a PG-13 rating in order to get younger audiences into the theater to potentially garner more box office dollars. Rothman assured fans that the film would not be compromised in any way and they would release the film they wanted to make regardless of the rating. It appears that Rothman stuck to his word and the film will in fact be released with an R rating. Rumors of an R rating first cropped up when a ticket appeared with the rating on it. Fox later confirmed that MPAA had given the film the rating based on " sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language". The only Alien film to garner a PG-13 rating before was 2004' Alien vs Predator. One person that will be watching the box office closely will be director Guillermo Del Toro whose 'At the Mountains of Madness' project was shelved due to the budget of the film and it's need for an R rating. If a big budget R-rated sci-fi film can bring in audiences, his film may actually see the light of day after all. So what do you think of ...
