Combining startlingly fresh and candid 16mm footage that had lain undiscovered in the cellar of Swedish Television for the past 30 years, with contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars, this film looks at the people, society, culture, and style that fuelled an era of convulsive change. Utilizing an innovative format that riffs on the popular 1970s mixtape format, The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 is a cinematic and musical journey into the black communities of America. At the end of the '60s and into the early '70s, Swedish interest in the US civil rights movement and the US anti-war movement peaked. With a combination of commitment and naivet%eacute, Swedish filmmakers traveled across the Atlantic to explore the Black Power movement, which was being alternately ignored or portrayed in the US media as a violent, nascent terrorist movement. Despite the obstacles they encountered, both from the conservative white American power establishment and from radicalized ,ovement members themselves, the Swedish filmmakers stayed committed to their investigation, and ultimately formed bonds with key figures in the movement. I had a great time at CES 2012 and wanted to show you some of the great products and experiences they had. Ultimately here were my favorite things: ------------------------- Touchscreen Lenovo Laptop that flipped into a tablet and showed how amazing Windows 8 could potentially be. The PS Vita- I had my doubts but was blown away by it. Ar Drone 2.0- Easily my favorite toy now that it records HD video HD Hero 2 + App- The only negative thing about the HD Hero was the inability to see what you were recording and now with new and better image stabilization and more importantly an app that will let you control the camera it could be even better. Any TV that utilized 3d that required glasses. Glassesless tv's still suck. I stand by that. Eers- The headphones that create custom fit earbuds. Tibetans in the background, on streets can be heard offering prayers to the Dalai Lama. www.phayul.com In a press statement at the release of the footages, Tenzin Dorjee, Executive Director of Students for a Free Tibet said that Tibetans everywhere are passing through an "extremely difficult time." In the release, Tawu Lobsang Jinpa, a former political prisoner from Tawu who escaped to India last February noted that the crackdown in Tawu continues with surveillance cameras monitoring every movement of the monks. "Her ultimate act of nonviolent protest galvanised the entire community to openly and publicly offer their respects and solidarity in spite of China's military clampdown in the region," said Jinpa. Since March this year, 11 Tibetans have set themselves ablaze protesting China's occupation of Tibet and demanding the return of the Dalai Lama from exile.
