Bahrain's opposition stepped up their protests as the anniversary of the uprising a year ago nears. Calls are being made to re-occupy the pearl roundabout - the center of protests which began on February 14, 2011. Opposition parties held a rally on Tuesday evening calling for democratic reforms and the right to go back to Pearl roundabout which is currently guarded by military tanks. Human rights activist Nabeel Rajab is frequently seen at protests in Bahrain. I want to tell you that we should go to Manama, hold protests and without permission - to stand up to this government and maintain that this is one of our rights." On Sunday, thousands of people gathered in Trafalgar Square in London to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Dragon, which officially began on January 23. London is home to the largest Chinese New Year celebration outside of Asia. The festivities featured 100 world-class performers, including the Chen Brothers, who currently hold the Guinness World Record for the highest pole jump in the lion dance. The London Mayor Boris Johnson was on site, lending a hand in the Dotting of the Eye Ceremony, which traditionally brings the lions and dragons to life. The year of the dragon is considered a year of changes, and many Malaysians are hoping for increased harmony between the country's various cultures. The sky was alive with flowers, numbers, and even a dragon. Hong Kong welcomed the Year of the Dragon with a dramatic firework display over Victoria Harbor on Tuesday, the second day of the lunar calendar. As crowds gathered on either side of the water to watch the annual display, the sky was illuminated by almost 40000 rockets in a 23-minute extravaganza made up of eight scenes. Glittering fireworks of different colors created numbers, smiling faces and chrysanthemums -- the flower which symbolizes the energy of the people of Hong Kong. One of the scenes, titled "The Dragon in Flight", featured fireworks flying back and forth over the water like the movement of a dragon, symbolizing cultural and friendship exchange between the East and the West. The climax of the display was "Lung-lung Sound the Firecrackers" section, in which rockets of all colors flew continuously for 50 seconds to wish the former British territory all the best in the coming year. Thousands gather outside EU offices in Warsaw on Tuesday to protest against "ACTA" a copyright treaty which may affect internet freedoms. ACTA is an international agreement which has been compared to the United State's SOPA agreement dealing in intellectual property violations. Protesters were chanting "No to ACTA" (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) and carrying anti-ACTA signs. Their goal is try to disrupt the annual gathering of the rich and powerful in Switzerland. The Occupy movement, which went global after protests against Wall Street last year, is camping in igloos to bring its argument with the super-rich "1 percent" to the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. It is a reminder to the leaders of finance and industry at the WEF of the resentment that is leading to questions about the future direction of capitalism. The group has set up camp to "occupy" the WEF in a car park just outside the security cordon around the meeting. Activists say the camp, which includes six igloos plus two heated tepees and a field kitchen, can house about 50 people. Around 30 thousand people are affected by the flooding. Peru's Civil Defense office says on Monday that intense flooding across the North of the country has killed 11 people and destroyed hundreds of homes. Experts at the Peruvian Meteorological and Hydrological Service in Lima are monitoring the data. [Teresa Garcia, Meteorologist]: "The rainfall has caused the water level to rise. Where it has risen substantially, lots of communities have been affected. The increase in water levels has caused floods and overflowing in the area." Local authorities say almost 300 houses are destroyed, with more than 700 left uninhabitable. The official report estimates that some 30 thousand people across the country have been affected by the flooding to different degrees. Humanitarian aid has been gathered for distribution by local authorities, but as the rain continues to fall, there is concern that more damage will follow. Every year, the residents of Huainan gather to celebrate the New Year with a dumpling competition that serves up a unique history. It was here that 2000 years ago tofu was first made. That's why dumplings made with tofu have become a unique local delicacy. Contestants handle the delicate bean curd with loving care. [Tu Changhu, Local Chef]: "It looks easy to make tofu dumplings, but in fact, we have to select the material and make the dumplings very carefully. The material must be specially-made local tofu, which makes the dumplings tasty and gives it the right shape." An exhibit of Olympic posters over the past century opened in London's Canary Wharf on Monday showcasing how artistic trends and politics have changed over the last 100 years. Posters have been a prime means of communication for the modern Olympic Games, designed to herald the event and build up excitement for the sporting spectacle. They are a visual document of sport and art, politics and place. A truck carrying fireworks dropped its load and set off a series of colorful explosions inside a tunnel in southern China's Hunan Province on Saturday, state media reported. The truck -- packed with fireworks and firecrackers -- was driving through the Jiaoxi Ridge Number One Tunnel on Saturday morning when it hit a wall and lost its load, causing some of the fireworks to explode as they hit the ground. Red, yellow and green sparks could be seen inside the smoke-filled tunnel as firefighters attempted to douse the fireworks with water -- a task that took three hours to finish. Traffic stretched back three miles while the tunnel was closed. No casualties were reported, according to state television. Twenty-five people lost their lives in what has been described as an inland tsunami and many lost their homes and everything they owned. In some cases, entire townships were demolished. One year on, Queenslanders gather at memorial services to remember those who perished. Our Australian correspondent has more. It's hard to imagine that the Lockyer Valley in Southeast Queensland was devastated 12 months ago by a raging wall of water that tore through, obliterating everything in its path. Mark Kempton was one of the first on the scene. [Mark Kempton, Senior Helicopter Pilot Emergency Management Queensland]: "People were on rooftops that could have been ripped apart at any time and that was the force of the water that day in the Lockyer Valley. Many of the original signatories and witnesses gather to remember the introduction of the document to the public 35 years ago.
