I am very excited to get archiCADmonkey back on the bitwaves with my new website and revamped show. I%rsquod like to firstly thank everyone for your patience, and especially all the great comments + feedback. It%rsquos been over a year since my last show, as a lot has been going on since then. After a tough final year at university, I finally graduated from architecture in July. Since then I%rsquove been working in Greece + the UK as an architectual assistant, while redeveloping the show in my spare time. it%rsquos more than just a screencast ... it's the archiCADmonkey blog! So, the archiCADmonkey blog will feature the tutorial posts, some up to date information on the software I cover in the screencasts, along with useful CAD news and websites. The upcoming shows will cover introductions, tips + tricks of many of the established architectural programs, as well as some other useful applications on the mac + pc + iphone. I have received a few requests about some advanced features of the programs, but I think that the evolution of the shows should reflect the learning path of the beginner to the experienced user. So the first shows will be focused on the basic principles + techniques for CADnewbies and will evolve to more advanced techniques for the more experienced and CADveterans. Please feel free to comment on any of the posts, give some feedback on the content or just say hi at archicadmonkey@gmail.com

Chris Brown seriously needs to let go of the whole Rhianna saga. Last week he posted a video of himself with Rhianna whilst they were dating, with the words ‘I’m sorry’, along side it. You may think that this is kind of sweet, but the follow up links attached to the message lead to promotional material for his new video. Not so sweet.
It hasn’t been a great month for Lindsay Lohan , firstly her dad tells the world she will be dead by the end of the year, then she is linked to the gang who burgled her house, now she has been dropped by her record label. We’re not sure if any one remembers, but Lindsay was once a singer, however now her main source of income comes from turning up at parties, not great for someone who has been in rehab three times!
Levi Johnston , the 19yr old who knocked up Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol , right in the middle of last years US election campaign, is about to tell all bare all! He’s doing an exclusive interview AND naked shoot for Play Girl magazine. Palin is understandably unimpressed with this revelation!
This week’s hero ad villain!
Hero of the week is Beyonce , who is single handedly attempting to save us from the recession. The ultra generous star and her hubby Jay-z had an expensive lunch in New York last week and enjoyed themselves so much, they left a £300 tip!
Villain of the week is Natalie Portman - who we adore, but has won no fans after her opening up about being a vegan. She explained that people eat meat just because everyone else does and ended up comparing it to rape and the bringing in of the Holocaust! We won’t be inviting her to dinner any time soon!
Hotshots:
Victoria Beckham shows off her new hair-do, Nicole Ritchie opens up in a private interview and details of Ivanka Trump’s wedding!

2009 Raleigh-area Consignment Sale Roundup (Fall/Winter Sales)
[LESS INFO] 14 VIEWS | ADDED 18:47:55 09/16/09
It's that time of year again... back to school shopping will start all too soon and parents will be sorting through clothing & toys to decide what still fits and what needs to be replaced. Almost a year and a half ago I discovered a new favorite hobby in bargain shopping called Children's Consignment Sales. I posted a blog last summer about my initial experiences with consignment shopping. Since then I can easily say that I've been to more than a dozen sales total, which are kind of like giant cooperative yard sales. I'm still by no means an expert, but do eagerly look forward to the chance to get nearly-brand-new clothing and toys for my child for about 25% of the original retail cost. Even toys or "play clothes" that look a little worn work fine for a toddler... she doesn't care or know the difference!
For new moms or parents who haven't shopped a consignment sale before, here are a few tips of my own followed by some local news videos explaining the sales and then a list of the upcoming Raleigh, NC-area Fall/Winter sales.
1.) Take a list! Start making a list now of every item you can think of that you need for your child. It can be specific or generic, but just write it down, sort it by category type and even prioritize it by importance. I would never remember everything I want without having it on paper while shopping a sale. Don't think, "Oh that's too specific - I'd never find that at a sale." I've been blown away by very specific items I've found at sales before... such as One Step Ahead's " Walking Wings " (normally $24.95, but I found them practically new for $10). Last year I bought an $85 Kozy Carrier for only $20! The amount of new-with-tag clothing items for sale is often quite surprising too.
2.) Since the sales don't provide shopping carts, take something to carry your items in; I recommend a device with wheels! I use our SnugGlider stroller frame (without the infant car seat) and attach a rectangular laundry basket with a bungee cord. It works fabulously! I also have seen shoppers using carts such as this one , but I've never made the investment to get one of those. A wagon or an empty stroller could work well too.
3.) If possible, sign up for a time slot to work a few volunteer hours so that you can shop early. The best items always go first and once you shop a sale early, you'll realize this. Consignors (people who sell their items) also usually get to shop earlier than the public as well. The only thing to remember about consigning is that there is usually a consignors fee ($5-15) which you pay whether or not any of your items sell. If you do sell your items, depending on the sale you'll typically get about 2/3 of your selling price and the sale owners keep the other 1/3.
The Raleigh area is very fortunate to have quite a few consignment sales nearby and those numbers seem to be growing! I've compiled a list of 10 upcoming Fall/Winter sales with their dates and locations below. There are 4 more area sales that I'm aware of, but have not yet confirmed their upcoming dates/location. First though, here is some local news coverage from two of the area's largest sales, KidsExchange and Kids Everywear. Note that these videos are from last winter's "Spring/Summer" sales and are not specifically referring to the upcoming sales.
.....
.....
.....
......
If the crowds in those videos overwhelm you, take heart... all sales aren't as chaotic as those two! In fact, many of the smaller sales are great because since they aren't as crowded, you can find better bargains! Feel free to leave a comment below inquiring about a specific sale and I'll be happy to let you know any details I know about it. (Although there are a few on this list that I haven't been to before.)
Here is the list, sorted by upcoming sale dates:

Kingsbarns Golf Links Episode #11
[LESS INFO] 7 VIEWS | ADDED 17:20:05 08/20/09
In Episode 11 I have the pleasure of visiting Kingsbarns Golf Links , one of the newest courses in the hallowed home of golf, in the glorious sunshine. Kingsbarns is a traditional Scottish links course set in a stunning seaside location just 7 miles from St. Andrews. The wide fairways stretch along 2 miles of spectacular coastline in East Fife. In this show I’ll take you to the signature holes at Kingsbarns, the par-5 12th and 15th, I’ll show you the challenging 7th, 9th and 18th holes as well as the dramatic fairways and greens, the beautiful clubhouse, the stunning coastline and even some wildlife down on the adjacent beach! 15th hole I start out by taking you to the 15th hole and offering you some top tips to help you make par on this hole. This hole is gaining a reputation as one of Scotland's finest par 3s. With its fantastic views I think it’s our version of Pebble Beach! Whenever I come to Kingsbarns I always see some fantastic drama on this incredible hole - I love it. From the tee at 212 yards I demonstrate how the hole can be played – either by simply going for it or by laying up on the left hand side of the green. When you stand on the tee of the 15th at Kingsbarns you don’t know how windy it’s going to be, so my top tip is to check the trees on your left and also aim for the left bunker if you can because that’s a really good safe line. The last thing you want is to end up on the rocks on the right. Once you get to the green you should take care because there are lots of borrows, contours and undulating ridges on this green. If you can get a 3 or a 4 that’s a good score and you can move on having played one of the best golf holes in Scotland! 12th hole Apart from the 15th one of the best holes at Kingsbarns Golf Links is the 12th - it’s a par 5 , it goes all the way along the coastline and has to be one of the most stunning holes in the British Isles. 7th hole The par 4 7th is a long tough hole at 470 yards from the championship tees. It's important to miss the large hollow on the left side of the green, as recovering from here can be tricky. 9th hole Next I take you onto the par 5 9th hole which is 568 yards long and I show you the cross bunkers and the deep bunkers on the right hand side of the green.. Like all of the greens at Kingsbarns there are 6 or 7 pin placements on the 9th green. However there is no other green like the 9th for the variety of placement. There is a large hollow and a ridge running across this green. This really is a tricky green but a lot of fun to play. 18th hole I finish the show on the testing par 4 18th hole which is 444 yards from the tips. You final approach shot must carry the Cambo Burn. This is a finishing hole which is designed for maximum drama - it’s lots of fun and it could decide the outcome of your match. Kingsbarns History Golf at Kingsbarns dates back to 1793 and since then it’s had a turbulent history. The course closed in 1850 so that farmers could turn the land into farmable fields, and re-opened in 1922 when Willie Auchterlonie laid out a nine-hole golf course on the links at Kingsbarns Bay. Then in 1939 this course was mined for military purposes during World War II. Finally in 1999 Californian designers Mark Parsinen and Kyle Phillips created and opened the 18 hole golf course which features in this show. Despite its infancy, Kingsbarns has the honor of being one of three venues for the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, along with the Old Course and Carnoustie. This spectacular course has also been selected as a Final Local Qualifying course for the 2010 Open Championship . If you want the sights, sounds smells of sea while you are playing golf then Kingsbarns is the place to be. The elevated tees give you magnificent views of the landing areas of each hole as well as stunning views out to the sea. On the green you really need to have you’re “A” game with you because there are so many contours and subtle borrows - probably best to have a caddy on your first visit! Good luck on your 1st visit to Kingsbarns! For full details on how to play please visit their website. Make your Lake Superior Day plans now: July 20, 2008 celebrate the world's largest, cleanest freshwater lake - annual event sponsored by Lake Superior Binational Forum, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Environment CanadaCelebrate Lake Superior Day on Sunday, July 20, 2008What’s better than a July picnic on a hot, sandy beach next to the world’s largest freshwater lake?A picnic and a Lake Superior celebration!Individuals and families, churches and kids, communities and clubs, and businesses and industries hold activities or events that celebrate Lake Superior Day, held annually on the third Sunday in July (July 20 this year). Can you do something that symbolizes your own connection to the lake on that day?Lake Superior Day was started in the early 1990s to highlight the importance of this great water body to the basin’s environment and economy. The Lake Superior Binational Forum promotes this basin-wide event to highlight the special connections people have to this unique world treasure. Many events have been held to educate or entertain people about lake issues, special places, and recreational opportunities. You are invited to hold activities or events that celebrate this world-class lake. This year the theme is “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!” to symbolize clean energy sources such as wind power.Organize your group or family to fly a kite at your favorite beach or park on July 20!Click on this link for more information about flying a kite on Lake Superior Day.Families fly kites made from homemade materials off the deck of the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth. If you could travel along the entire Lake Superior shoreline, you would travel 1,826 miles, or the distance from Duluth to San Francisco. The Lake Superior Binational Forum is a multi-sector stakeholder group of U.S. and Canadian volunteers that work together to provide input to governments about lake issues and educate basin residents about ways to protect and restore the lake.Members come from Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ontario.Northland College Ashland, Wisconsin photos courtesy:Northland College, Liturgical Environments, Wayne Nasi Construction--- The Forum is located in the United States at Northland College in Ashland, WI, and funded in the U.S. by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office. The Canadian Forum office is at EcoSuperior in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and funded by Environment Canada. -------Top Ten Ways You Can Protect Lake Superior Every DayWisconsin DNR Map1. Install water saving devices on your kitchen and bathroom faucets and showerheads. Purchase these at local hardware and building supply stores--most cost between one dollar and nine dollars.2. Replace regular light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs. Burning an energy bulb requires less energy, which means power plants burn less coal and that produces less mercury in the air.3. Never burn garbage, especially plastics or tires, in burn barrels on your property. These produce more toxins in the air than an industrial incinerator. Not only do you breathe these toxic fumes as the garbage burns, but the pollutants enter the lake when it rains. 4. Instead of burning garbage, recycle or compost what you can and throw away the rest. 5. Take your lawn and household hazardous materials to area Cleansweeps collection days in Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, and Iron counties this summer. Call the Northwest Regional Planning Commission at 715-635-2197 for dates and locations of collections in your county.6. Put your lawn on a chemical-free diet. Poisonous lawn herbicides and pesticides seep into waterways that end up in the lake and soil, which can hurt your family and neighbors. Lawn chemicals can also sicken or kill birds and pets. Bring these kinds of chemicals to a Cleansweep event where they are disposed of safely.7. Never pour any liquids into a storm drain. Storm drains empty untreated liquids into a nearby river, stream, or Lake Superior.8. When you’re boating or fishing, inspect your boat and trailer and remove any plants and animals before leaving the water body. Drain water from the motor, live well, bilge, and transom before leaving the water body. Never release live bait fish in the water or live earthworms on the land or water.9. When planning landscaping or gardening activities, use plants that are native to the region. Consult with garden centers or the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute for a list of the best native plants for this area. Learn what non-native species look like and additional prevention tips by contacting your local state or federal natural resource management agency and ask for information and identification material for non-native species.10.
