E-21 Presentation with Sen. John Barrasso, Prof.Daniel Schwarcz. and James C. Capretta
E-21 Presents "If You Like What You Have, Can You Keep It?" PPACA and Employer-Sponsored Insurance Presentation by Professor Daniel Schwarcz, University of Minnesota Law School with Featured Speaker Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) Chairman, Republican Policy Committee and commentary from James C. Capretta, Fellow, Ethics and Public Policy Center, and Project Director, e21's ObamaCare Watch. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) was sold to the American people with the promise that "If you like what you have, you can keep it." New academic research is clearly disproving this claim. The health law provides strong incentives for employers to move their sick and low-wage workers out of job-based plans and into publicly subsidized coverage. The result will be soaring costs for taxpayers, and millions of people losing the coverage they have today. This session will explore in detail these findings from the academic community. Today, Mitt Romney says he supports President Bush's tax cuts. But, as governor refused to support them. Indeed, as a liberal governor Mitt Romney increased fees and taxes by $700 million dollars. Now, he attacks Newt Gingrich. But as Speaker, Newt's leadership helped reduce spending, balance the budget and create 11 million new jobs. If Romney would mislead us on all this, can we trust him on anything else? From: ngingrich Views: 5497 47 ratings Time: 00:31 More in News & Politics

What We Saw: National School Choice Week Kick-Off, New Orleans
"I think we ought to give our children the best we possibly can and I think we're moving in that direction," says renowned political operative James Carville. "Yes, I'm very excited about it." Reason caught up with the Louisiana native at the New Orleans kickoff event for National School Choice Week (NSCW), which runs from January 22-28 and features hundreds of events around the country designed to increase support for allowing parents to pick what schools their children attend. The Big Easy was the ideal location for the event as all children attend schools of choice in New Orleans, a radical - and so far incredibly sucessful - response to decades of failed approaches and the devasation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Carville emceed an event that also featured performers such as The Temptations, Trombone Shorty, and Ellis Marsalis along with speakers such as MSNBC's Michelle Bernard, former Arizona education head Lisa Graham Keegan, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. "National School Choice Week gives us an unprecedented opportunity to shine an effective spotlight on the need for enhanced educational options for parents," said Andrew Campanella of NSCW.
