Stillbirth Risk Raises With Several Maternal Factors; Pathway Regulating Stress Discovered; Large DNA Study Identifies Genes Linked to Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (Video)

(December 13, 2011 - Insidermedicine)
From Utah - Several factors may raise risk of stillbirth, according to a report published in JAMA . Researchers studied nearly 2500 deliveries in the US that took place over 2 years. They found that non-Hispanic black race, diabetes, age over 40, AB blood type, a history of drug addiction, smoking 3 months prior to pregnancy, obesity and not living with a partner all independently raised risk of stillbirth.
From Massachusetts - Research published in the Journal of Neuroscience identifies a novel pathway that determines the body's response to stress. Researchers found that neurosteroids control the body's stress response. They able to block this response in a mouse model, effectively preventing stress-induced anxiety in the rodents.
And finally, from Boston - A massive DNA study has found several gene abnormalities implicated in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), according to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine . Results of comprehensive DNA sequencing revealed five genetic mutations that were commonly associated with the blood cancer, an aspect which may improve predictions on progression of the disease.

Cancer Video: Scientists Discover How Cancer Cells Get Their Energy; New Pioneer Factor for Breast Cancer Discovered; Major Weakness Found in Aggressive Prostate Cancer
[LESS INFO] 23 VIEWS | ADDED 21:00:00 11/17/11
(November 17, 2011 - Insidermedicine)
From New York - A new report published in Science Translational Medicine identifies how cancer cells obtain enough energy to propagate. Studying 40 different types of human tumours, researchers discovered that cancer cells grow by tapping into the body's natural recycling system. By genetically blocking this process in a mouse model, researchers saw the tumour cells stop spreading and die.
From New Hampshire - Scientists have identified a possible new biomarker for breast cancer, according to a report published in PLoS Genetics. Researchers found that a new factor, PBX1, effectively determines how the body responds to estrogen in breast cancer cells, and that the presence of the factor can predict the risk of the cancer spreading.
And finally, from New York - Research published in Cancer Discovery finds a major weakness in aggressive prostate cancer. Scientists uncovered an achilles heel in neuroendocrine prostate cancer tumours, and found that a targeted drug on a mouse model was able to significantly shrink the rodent's tumours.

White-Tailed Deer - HD Mini-Documentary
Transcript: "The white-tailed deer is a versatile animal that can feed on a variety of vegetation and has adapted well to a number of different habitats. It can be found from Southern Canada throughout most of the United States, down through Central America and in parts of South America. It is named after the white-underside of its tail, which it raises when it senses danger. Deer are excellent jumpers and can run up to 30 miles per hour. They use their speed and agility to outrun predators. Males are known as bucks and grow antlers every year beginning in the spring. The antlers are used to spar against other males for the right to breed. Males then shed their antlers in the winter after mating season. The size of the antlers, and the number of points, is determined by several factors including nutrition, age and genetics. Female deer are called does and generally give birth to 1 to 3 fawns in May or June -- about six months after the breeding season. Natural predators include wolves and mountain lions. A decrease in the number of predators along with conservation efforts have led to a surge in the white-tailed deer population. What are you using the system for? How many processes do you plan on running simultaneously? It's really impossible to give a single solid answer to this question that takes all of these factors into account for every possible scenario. That's my answer. Shia LaBeouf is up to his old tricks again, this time getting himself reportedly thrown out of a club for spitting water at guests. Yep you heard right spitting water at guests Shia even shocked the unshockable Marilyn Manson by spitting water over him for no good reason at the LA opening of The Box.
One onlooker tells us he was completely wasted, which explains things a little more. Apparently Manson tried to calm him down but that just made him even more angry.
According to a witness, a scuffle broke out and security had to step in and rush Shia out of the building.
A rep for Shia presents a different version, of course. He left the club early as planned. No altercation occurred.
Her sex tape may have turned Kim Kardashian into a household name but it appears she is determined to make it go away, even if it means paying huge sums to get it off the market.
A mystery buyer has reportedly approached Vivid Entertainment, which owns the rights to the tape, looking to buy it, to completely remove it from the market and also looking to purchase, any other footage you may have control of that involves Ms Kardashian. Although the buyer refused to reveal who he was acting for, it's believed he's negotiating on behalf of Kim.
However, the president of Vivid says the starting price for any such purchase would be around £20 million. Internet sales of the tape went through the roof again recently when Kardashian married Kris Humphries.
Kim originally sued Vivid to block the release but ended up accepting a £3 million settlement.
Insiders report a battle of egos has broken out on the American version of The X Factor, with Simon Cowell and LA Reid competing for who can get the best trailer.
Our insider tells us that Simon is demanding two trailers with one specifically designed for his guests. However, LA has ordered 6ft speakers and an area to store wine in his. He has very strong opinions about what is used and wants plenty of room for meetings with artists he's working with. Now Simon is demanding that his trailer has nine TVs, including one in the Jacuzzi. He's the boss so he'll get whatever he wants, but LA is determined not to be outshone.
The competition is so fierce that co-judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger are bitching about how the blokes are the real divas on the show. They may have a point!

(July 26, 2011 - Insidermedicine)
From Oxford - Genetics factor more into one's risk of heart attack than stroke, according to a report published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics. Researchers studied over 900 individuals with acute heart ailments, over 1000 individuals who suffered an acute cerebral event, as well as the families of each patient.
