323 - iA Writer/iCloud & Remote iPad Support [Introduction Only]
[LESS INFO] 19 VIEWS | ADDED 10:29:56 12/01/11
[Introduction Only]Apple still haven't fully released all the components of iCloud for it's own applications. Most notably, "Documents in the Cloud" is great on iOS but iWork on the Mac doesn't fully support it yet.
Beating Apple to the punch is iA Writer, a simple text editor that has just been updated with "Documents in the Cloud" support, to seamless work on documents on your Mac and on your iPad. This tutorial explores how this new and exciting feature has been implemented on the Mac.
This tutorial also features a rather unique and innovative way to provide remote iPad support using iCloud and Apple TV of all things!
One of the biggest disappointments with the iCloud launch was the lack of an updated version of iWork for the Mac, that fully embraced "Documents in the Cloud". This is Apples new service (part of iCloud) that allows applications to seamlessly share documents stored in iCloud.
At the time of writing, only iWork on iOS fully supports this feature. Create a document in Pages on your iPhone, and it appears on your iPad, available for editing. However, if you have Pages on the Mac, you have to fire up a web browser to access the file - not ideal. We had hoped that Apple would release a new version of iWork to fully support iCloud, but no sign as of yet.
However, that hasn't stopped third party developers from updating their Apps to take full advantage of iCloud. Several apps have now started to use iCloud syncing to keep settings in sync, but one of the first to support "Documents in the Cloud" has just been updated.
The application is iA Writer by Information Architects. This is a minimalist text editor, ideal for working with Markdown, which has both a Mac and iPad client. You can now move documents to the cloud using iA Writer and seamless edit them from either device (no iPhone app at the moment unfortunately).
As it is one of the first apps with this feature, I was intrigued to see how they had implemented it, and if it may be a good sign of how all apps will behave in the future. I thought you would be interested too!
So in this episode, I skip over the main features of iA Writer (there aren't that many as it is very minimalist), and focus on how it creates and handles documents on the Mac and the iPad.
I'm very encouraged by how useful "Documents in the Cloud" looks although there still are some issues to be ironed out based on this first implementation.
Take a look and see what you think.
I also include a section inspired by an email from a ScreenCastsOnline viewer (so sorry I can't give them a name check!). Now that we are in the "Post PC" era, and along with the advent of iOS5, it's perfectly reasonable that people may be using iPads as their sole computer. Perfect for family members with no heavy computing needs. Give a iPad 3G to Granny, and she can email, surf the web, etc,.
Which is great, but invariably, we sometimes get sucked into supporting remote family members. Sometimes difficult on the Mac, even with the abundance of remote support tools, but what about the iPad?
This section shows you how to support a remote iPad with just iCloud and Apple TV. Absolutely brilliant!

Google TV vs Apple TV

Google TV vs Apple TV is a post from Chris Pirillo

This is Google TV . I am more than grateful to the team at Google for sending this unit to me, and for showing me how I can help all of YOU win one for yourself. I have to tell you – this piece of hardware is simply stunning. The quality is far beyond what I had expected. Besides, what could be cooler than watching YouTube videos on a big screen television?
Google TV is a new platform for television that combines your normal TV programming with a full web browser, Android apps and a simple way to search through all of it. It’s even easy to switch between TV and the web without having to change inputs on your television set. >
With Google Chrome and Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Google TV lets you access everything on the web. Watch your favorite web videos, view photos, play games, check fantasy scores, chat with friends, and do everything else you’re accustomed to doing online.
If you’re a video producer like I am, you’re going to love this. Google TV gives web video stars the change to be a TV star. Google TV users can even bookmark your YouTube channel onto their TV home screen. This makes your content appear one click away from whatever they are already watching.
Google TV will come pre-loaded with apps like Netflix, Twitter, CNBC, Pandora, Napster, NBA Game Time, Amazon Video On Demand and Gallery. Starting early next year, apps from Android Market will work on Google TV as well. As I already said in the video above, the quality and clarity of this Sony television is just – fantastic. I cannot imagine anything better to surf the web with, including my beloved Mac Pro and dual 30″ monitors. This TV set puts those to shame. Seriously.
I’m sure you are ready to know how you can win one of these for yourself, aren’t you? Google is graciously giving YOU the chance to win . The contest ends on December 22nd, so you’ll have to hurry. 100 people will win a 46″ Sony Google Internet TV on January 20th.
To enter, simply create a video describing why you’re excited about watching the Internet on TV. You can upload your entry as soon as you’re ready – and please make sure you’ve read the official contest rules . Your video cannot be longer than one minute, so be creative with your time – and good luck to everyone!
Thanks again to Google. This Sony in my office is now my new best friend. Why are YOU excited about Google TV?

MM170: New PropUp For iPad - Best iPad Case and Giveaways!
[LESS INFO] 8 VIEWS | ADDED 07:09:09 09/20/10
Thanks to a dear friend from high school who has been watching the Moxie Mo Show, she sent me via Facebook to meet a man who has come up with a new iPad Stand . At first, I shrugged my shoulders as I assumed this would be like any other iPad stand out there and what's the point in covering something that isn't new or fresh? Well, to my surprise, Todd Andrews has created what I believe to be a hugely selling iPad accessory that grips easily around your iPad, but never lets your iPad fall when held upside down, it's that durable.
It's purpose is to let you use your iPad anywhere - on the couch, the seat, the bed, the floor or even in the professional space such as your desk and even perfect for centering it around a table for presentations. The PropUp isn't made out of ordinary things - they use a secret blend of foam that not only keeps your iPad held tightly without ever damaging your iPad, but also allowing you to even cover your iPad if your already own an iPad protector screen. We will show you during our interview with the creator of PropUp just how easy it is to use, to put on and to take off, all the while making it the best iPad accessory for lounging, watching TV in bed or reading a book on your kitchen table thanks to the PropUp for the iPad.
The PropUp is simply made for all of us iPad users who wish we could find that perfect blanket or pillow to prop up our iPad while we are reading, surfing the web, Facebooking, gaming, and so on and so forth - finally, my friend, Todd Andrews has FOUND THE SECRET. They've created the first of its kind, the PropUp for the iPad !
As you watch this special, the Moxie Mo is amazed at how impressed he was because of the cost as well as something else - you'll have to watch. For all information on PropUp and their new website, click here (after watching the video!)
And to make things even moxier, the Moxie Mo Show has TWO giveaways - two PropUps that we're giving away to whomever leaves a comment at www.moxiemoshow.com/170 (comment section) explaining why they should receive one . The Moxie Mo will pick two of the best answers ( hints are inside the video, if you want a chance of winning ) and YOU WILL WIN the PropUp for your iPad before anyone else even gets theirs!
You can also pre-order for your very own, very inexpensive and very awesome PropUp now just by going to their website and pre-ordering. We have ALL the details in the episode!

Rick Malambri Interview Star Of Step Up 3 D
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 18:13:57 08/23/10
http://carbonated.tv/entertainment/HOLLYWOOD+EXCLUSIVEIt's hard not to be mesmerized by Rick Malambri. With a towering 6-foot-2 figure and a well shaved look to make any lady weak in the knees, Rick Malambri is on top of his game, starring in the film franchise known to upstart the careers of Hollywood newcomers like Channing Tatum. As Rick relishes in the success of Step Up 3D, Carbonated TV sits down for a chat with the star who's dancing in and out of life's many complicated dimensions. The stars of the Step Up franchise usually come from an extensive background. The immense talent and formal dance training of each cast member is presented within the first five minutes of the film; however, Rick Malambri reveals his background was in acting when joining the film. According to Malambri, the film franchise wanted to evolve into a more mature storyline which demanded Malambri's character to be the designated leader rather than the head dancer. Naturally, more character development was needed rather than dancing expertise. But the experience he does bring comes from being a lifelong self-learner. Malambri would watch dance videos online with friends and then breakdance in the streets. But when asked whether he prefers to bust it on the dance floor or ride the waves, Rick Malambri was quick to admit he's partial to the waves. Rick has been surfing ever since growing up in Florida, and surfing is just naturally a part of who he is. He is passionate about both dance and surfing and is excited that he is able to experiment with his both his passions on the West Coast. Let's just say Rick is not a big fan of humidity, and who could blame him! Besides surfing, Rick admits to being a bit of a certified geek. He built his first computer with his uncle at age eleven and is a big fan of all the gizmos and gadgets on the market. What's the one thing Rick can't live without? His beloved iPad. But no worries, he's the hybrid type and of course has a desktop, iPod, and other tech toys to complement. But that's not to say the road to Hollywood has been a piece of cake for Malambri. His parents wanted Rick to pursue a professional career and pursue something in line with his affinity for computers. It was a hurdle Rick was willing to overcome because his desires to be an entertainer were so deeply rooted within him. Now he says his parents are incredibly elated about his success and are happy he was steadfast about pursuing his dream. Rick ended his interview by showing Carbonated TV his limited edition patent leather K-Swiss Californias. He has a closet chock-full of high tops and absolutely adores a pair of kicks with swagger. You never learn about a person until you truly walk in their shoes and while Carbonated TV may have not had the opportunity to try on star's sick kicks, Malambri's down-to-earth personality and open honesty allowed us the opportunity to at least get a glimpse of the life he walks everyday. Be sure to check out Rick Malambri in Holiday Heist this Christmas.

A lot of Apple news today - first, as we discussed in our last episode of the Moxie Mo Show , Apple released iOS 4.0.2 which breaks your jailbroken iPhone - so should you upgrade? We tell you the pros and cons. Also, Engadget reports sources familar with the new Apple TV will now be called iTV and run iOS 4 as well as several new options from the old Apple TV. Last but certainly not least, a surfer named Chuck Patterson is a profesional surfer and you won't believe what he saw on his daily surf the other day - not only did he make it back to the beach safely, he went BACK OUT to the ocean to film two great white sharks circling his small surfboard while he filmed them with an underwater consumer camcorder.
