Here Comes Trouble: Stories from My Life is an unflinchingly honest, take-no-prisoners ride through the life of Oscar-winning filmmaker and bestselling author Michael Moore. Moore shares far-ranging, irreverent, and stranger-than-fiction vignettes from his early life. One moment he's an 11-year-old boy lost in the Senate and found by Bobby Kennedy; and in the next, he's inside the Bitburg cemetery with Ronald Reagan. At 17, he goes to get a snack and ends up on the news, creating a firestorm that helps eliminate racial discrimination at private establishments across America. Funny, eye-opening, and moving, it's the book he has been writing and living his entire life. - Sixth and I Historic Synagogue
Michael Moore is an Academy Award-winning American filmmaker, author and liberal political commentator. He is the director and producer of Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11, and Sicko, three of the top five highest-grossing documentaries of all time. In September 2008, he released his first free movie on the Internet, Slacker Uprising, documenting his personal crusade to encourage more Americans to vote in presidential elections. He has also written and starred in the TV shows "TV Nation" and "The Awful Truth." Moore is a self-described liberal who has criticized globalization, large corporations, assault weapon ownership, the Iraq War, U.S. President George W. Bush and the American health care system in his written and cinematic works. In 2005, Time magazine named him one of the world's 100 most influential people.

Michael Moore to Democrats: Forget the Crazy White Guy
[LESS INFO] 83 VIEWS | ADDED 00:04:14 11/05/11
Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore slams the Democratic Party for focusing too much attention on the demands of older, white male voters and too little attention on 18-to-29-year-olds, a critical demographic for Obama in the 2008 election. "Young people didn't come out in 2010," says Moore, "because they don't take bulls**t. You promise them something, you'd better do it."

My Review On Canadian Kid had Sex With Family Cat

"My Review On Canadian Kid had Sex With Family Cat Some sicko Canadian kid got busted for getting a little tail with the family pet. Pop the hood. The Chronicle Herald reports that the, um, cat lover has quite the rap sheet. A Dartmouth teenager has admitted that he had sex with a cat in January. The 16-year-old boy pleaded guilty Monday in Halifax youth court to a charge of bestiality. He also accepted responsibility for sexually assaulting a woman last October and three other charges common assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling and breaching probation. The same boy was in the news in September 2008 after he knocked a disabled senior citizen out of his motorized wheelchair, kicked him and stole his cellphone. The boy ended up pleading guilty to robbery and was sentenced to six months of deferred custody in the community, followed by two years of probation. Last December, he received another six months of deferred custody in the community for a sexual assault on a girl. His mother reported him to his probation officer Jan. 16 after she discovered that the family cat had been sexually abused"

"Being a hero for the animals is a 24-7 responsibility. And it can be a lot of fun as well! In this off beat video we see three examples of what it takes to do right for the animals. In the first part we take at look at what happens when our long time manager Scott tries to go off grounds for just a second. His path crosses with a bird in need and returns to the sanctuary to become the ""snake bird's"" hero. The second part is a quick look at the ""Bearcat"" and its being included in our great operant conditioning program full of animal heroes. And the video closes with a look at two local boys who saved some kittens from sure death by going into a sewer drain and getting them out! It is never a dull moment around here, that is for sure, Thank you for watching our videos and remember to be a hero for the animals! WikiLeaks Cables Reveal US Cable Lied About Michael Moore's "Sicko" Being Banned In Cuba
[LESS INFO] 10 VIEWS | ADDED 16:00:26 12/19/10
In a classic case of telling the boss what he wants to hear, WikiLeaks released cables asserting that Michael Moore's documentary Sicko was banned in Cuba. Only problem? It wasn't . >
Michael Moore was as surprised as anyone when WikiLeaks revealed a US cable asserting that Cuban officials banned his Sicko documentary because it depicted a "mythical" view of health care there. He was even more surprised when the media picked up on the cable and reported it as gospel truth. (See the Guardian , whose report in turn got widely disseminated.) The problem is that the documentary—a damning assessment of the American health care system—was not banned in Cuba, he writes at the Huffington Post .
As Digby points out , we used to have this thing that would actually check out stories before running them. >
If only there were professional people who gather facts and research issues and interview subjects who could be called upon to investigate such things. I recall that there used to be an organization called The New York Times which was interested in sorting out various secrets and lies but they seem to have gone into another business. (Some strange foreigners still practice this old fashioned craft but here in the US not so much.) Too bad. It could be useful.
The point is apt, and makes the Americans media's tweaking about Julian Assange look all that much more ridiculous, because it looks more and more that many of these cables were written by people looking to make the bosses happy, not truthfully inform them. Like those cables that asserted that the Saudis actively supported and encouraged US aggression against Iran, all of these leaks and revelations must be met with skepticism and investigation into its validity.
But that would require actual journalism...

Don Nixdorf Bc Chiropractic Association Squandering Billions
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 17:11:07 06/25/09
David spent over 2 hours talking to Don Nixdorf, executive director of the BC Chiropractic Association, about topics ranging from the book Sqandering Billions to Don's time working with the Disability Pension Plan. You'll find Don's insights into our health care systems - both US and Canada - to be right on the money.Alternatives to traditional medical interventions (surgery, drugs, etc.) have proven both practical and cost effective - why are they not getting better press and more use?www.sqanderingbillions.netThere's good evidence that Michael Moore's movie, Sicko, was spawned by Michael's receiving Squandering Billions.Don and David talk about the differences between US and Canadian health care - lots of people losing their homes in the US despite having health care for example, vs. nobody in Canada losing their home for similar reason. The big picture about hospitals and the fact that emergency services in both countries really are "truly shining" - it is the inefficiencies in the rest of the system that are the problem.2004 figure for preventable deaths in the health care system was 25,000 in Canada. Compare this burried statistic to the huge hooraw over auto deaths and losing a soldier in Afganastan!Quality, Performance, Outcomes, Safety - these are the criteria we are not measuring in our health care system."It's a turf war" sums it up - Doctors don't want to allow their patients to see the alternatives, even thought they know the procedures are effective."We want people to be informed and empowered so they can make their own choice"Don is also on the Canada Pension Plan Disability Review Board. Don's knowledge of this board and his opinion of how this vital service to the Canadian public works are worth listening to. "I was stunned by the overwhelming commitment of these people to want to serve Canadians..."Well worth the over 2 hours listening to these two extremely knowledgeable people talk about health care and many other subjects of similar import to Canadians and Americans.

Thanks to Joe Osborne and Jeff Gardner of Passaic DFA for organizing and presenting a productive evening of information/discussion on a topic that, sooner or later, will be a life and death issue for every one of us. It's not just about "the money". Though clearly, money/greed are (unfortunately) the primary factors that determine how our "health care" system "works".The event started with a screening of Michael Moore's brilliant movie, "Sicko". Which, is well worth seeing at least three times. In fact, I dare say it could be the basis of a subject/syllabus for a full college level course. I was attracted to the event by the expectation that John Glasel, Secretary of Health Care for All NJ, would be there to advocate for a single payer solution; but ironically he was not well that night and had to cancel. Let's hope he's feeling better! However, Betsy Querna ( North Jersey Media Group health reporter and contributor to US News & World Report) and Dr. David Modrak (PhD Biochemist and Cancer Researcher and stem cell research advocate) did a great job of sharing their knowlege, experience and views as well as addressing some of the many interesting questions.
