Breast-feeding mom thrown off plane for breast-feeding daughter sues

"http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfmoms/detail?entry_id=49172 MONTPELIER, Vt. -- A woman who was thrown off an airplane for breast-feeding her child, sparking a day of airport protests nationwide, is suing the three airlines involved in the flight. Emily Gillettes lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington on Wednesday, comes nearly three years after she was taken off an airplane because she wouldnt cover herself with a blanket while nursing her 1-year-old daughter. Gillette, of Santa Fe, N.M., said she was ejected from the flight as it prepared to take off after a three-hour delay. Her story generated interest around the nation, leading to a protest nurse-in in 19 airports in November 2006. Gillettes suit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages from Delta Airlines, Freedom Airlines and Mesa Air Group. The lawsuit says Freedom uses Mesa aircraft to run flights under contract with Delta, and that Gillettes flight was booked with Delta. Delta spokesman Anthony Black said Thursday the Atlanta-based airline does not comment on litigation but supports a mothers right to breast-feed. A spokesman for Mesa, based in Phoenix, which owns Irving, Texas-based Freedom, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Meanwhile, the Vermont Human Rights Commission filed a state lawsuit Thursday against Mesa and Freedom. Executive Director Robert Appel said the commission had determined it could not hold Delta responsible for the actions of Mesa and Freedom. Appel cited a Vermont law that says a mother may breast-feed her child in any place of public accommodation in which the mother and child would otherwise have a legal right to be. Gillettes lawsuit says she was sitting in a window seat on an Oct. 13, 2006, flight from Burlington to New York City. Gillette, who was 27 at the time, began nursing her hungry and tired daughter, 1-year-old River, and had the toddler positioned with her head toward the aisle and no part of (Gillettes) breast exposed, according to the lawsuit. A flight attendant brought Gillette a blanket and told her to cover up, but Gillette declined. The flight attendant forcefully demanded that (Gillette) cover the toddlers head, stating, You are offending me, according to the suit. When Gillette again declined, the flight attendant got a customer service representative to order Gillette and her family off the plane. Gillette felt shamed and humiliated and tearfully gathered her belongings to exit the plane, the lawsuit states."

HAVE A HEART
[LESS INFO] 22 VIEWS | ADDED 21:32:07 05/17/11
"This video and song is in response to a letter I got from a chinchilla rancher. he saw my interview in the Daily Herald talking against the fur industry. Here is his letter to me I am an International Chinchilla Judge as is my wife of 51 years, and owner of PSK Chinchilla Ranch and Sullivan Fur Dressing. We have been in the Chinchilla business going on 43 years. The only time I heard of you was that ridiculous letter you put in the Spectrum paper Jan. 13, 08. I understand your attachment to a chinchilla. Sorry for your loss. But get real, join peta who slaughters 97.4% of their so called ""Rescues"", or some other ridicules thing or group. For your info there would be no pet chinchillas or any others for that matter if it were not for the popularity of Chinchilla as a fur garment, that means ""pelts"", not pets. In the wild there are very few live animals if any at all. I was a guest of the Chile National Chinchilla Organization and the Chilean Government for the opening of the Sanctuary and preserve for the wild Chinchilla several years ago. As Chile, Argentina and Bolivia were their point on origin of the animal. Mainly Chile. I spent several hours on the site and found no evidence that any wild Chins were even there. If so there are very few. You pet people are successfully destroying what we have built up over the years. Chinchilla has been my family's life. It is a sad day that the beautiful little animal will one day be a note in the history books, destroyed by a bunch of crazy do gooders. There is nothing you can do to improve the breed with your misguided zeal. You will never develop the expertise or the knowledge to better the breed. You will never make it your life's work to improve the breed. Just suck off of some one that has, and there are many. They are cutting their own throats as many have discovered . 20 years past there were 100,000 plus pelts produced in the USA. We led the world in quality and pelt production. Now that number is greatly reduced from that and the center of production has moved back to South America. The USA still has the best quality but that also will pass. All you pet owners are doing is destroying a wonderful renewable source of warmth, beauty and comfort. The animal was developed by Commercial Ranchers and improved to where it is today because of the fur market. In the wild they looked like mangy ground squirrels. These Ranchers bred the quality to what you see today from these ""ground squirrels."" These Ranchers treat their animals with the greatest kindness and care. The same as Ranchers of Cows, horses, pigs , poultry and all livestock have been improved for the good of the human race as food and clothing. It is a business and requires caring. If one does not care one will not succeed. But you probably don't wear leather or eat meat or dairy, just plants, sorry, poor little plants they feel to. By the way they also have been improved by humanity for humanity and for human consumption. They also are a renewable resource. And by the way we don't sell pets as it is the cruelest thing that can be done to a Chinchilla. How many Chins live past 2 or 3 years as a pet? Yours did, I am surprised! Congratulations! Most don't. In our breeding herd we have had 100's live past 15 years and several into their 20's, providing upgrades in genetics and longevity to the breed. Our answer is no we will not sell you any pets. We only sell herd improvement animals and only to qualified Ranchers of which you are not one. I usually ignore pet requests but could not resist answering your inquiry. Pete Kiseskey PS: you could not had heard of our ""PET QUALITY CHINS"" as we have none. And yes those we have are Animanely treated. Not humanely treated, that is for humans. New word by me. For more downloads and content, check out: http://youthgrouptruth.com/2011/04/01/decoding-gods-call-on-your-life-jeremiah-1/ As we are diving deep into the book of Jeremiah, the story starts off with God’s personal call on Jeremiah’s life. There are so many ridiculous misconceptions about God’s call. People think God’s call on their life would be a mystery, a puzzle, a boring way to live, just a request of God, the worst case possible scenario, something they would not want or enjoy, etc. But God’s call on a person’s life matches us perfectly with how God has created, designed, wired, and trained them. God has both a general and personal call on a Christian’s life to live. Do you know what God’s call on your life is? You can find out from this study! Do you know what God is saying to your lame excuses to His call? You can find out from this study! Do you know how God is training you for His call on your life? You can find out from this study! Did you know that God’s personal call on your life always includes that you’re called to be a prophet? Check it out! And learn to DECODE God’s call on your life!

"Composed by Hikaru Utada This was requested by Dan DeGuzman, Jr. from Washington USA, Who informed me that this song sold over five million copies from March to April 1999. First Love was not only the fastest selling debut album in Japanese history, but also had the highest initial first-week and overall sales for a debut album, achieving multi-platinum status in its first week of release. Utada would be noted in the Guinness Book of World Records 2000 for being the ""Most Popular Singer in Asia."" A month after the album First Love was released, the song ""First Love"" was released as a single, mostly because of popular demand, and sold 804,000 units cumulatively of its 8cm and 12cm version. In addition to the album reaching #1 status on the daily, weekly and monthly charts of the Oricon Top 200, Utada also broke the record for units sold of a single album in Japan by the year's end (over 7.650 million units), all by age 16, which record she still holds to this day. First Love is the most commercially successful debut CD album, and most commercially successful album overall by a Japanese artist, in Japanese music history, having sold over 10 million copies throughout Asia, with nearly 8 million copies sold in Japan alone. The year ended for Utada on a high note, being ranked #5 on Japanese radio station ""Tokio Hot 100 Airplay's"" Top 100 Artists of the 20th Century by the station and its listeners. Haven't heard this song before and it's awesome. Hope it made you think about your first love :) Lyrics : Once in a while You are in my mind I think about the days that we had And i dream that these would all come back to me If only you knew every moment in time Nothing goes on in my heart Just like your memories How I want here to be with you Once more You will always gonna be the one And you should know How I wish I could have never let you go Come into my life again Oh, don't say no You will always gonna be the one in my life So true, I believe i can never find Somebody like you my first love Once in awhile Your are in my dreams I can feel the warmth of your embrace And I pray that it will all come back to me If only you knew every moment in time Nothing goes on in my heart Just like your memories And how I want here to be with you Once more yah yah yah You will always be inside my heart And you should know How I wish I could have never let you go Come into my life again Please don't say no Now and forever you are still the one In my heart So true, I believe I could never find Somebody like you My first love oh oh You will always gonna be the one And you should know How I wish I could have never let you go Come into my life again Oh, don't say no You will always gonna be the one So true, I believe I could never find Now and forever * I do not take claim to any of the original materials used in this video. "Requested by subscriber flowerwhite71 Words and Music By Don McLean This was recorded by Perry Como, Bobby Goldsboro, Bobby Vinton and others. Lyrics: And I love you so. The people ask me how, How I've lived till now. I tell them I don't know. I guess they understand How lonely life has been. But life began again The day you took my hand. And, yes, I know how lonely life can be. The shadows follow me, and the night won?t set me free. But I don't let the evening get me down Now that you?re around me. And you love me, too. Your thoughts are just for me; You set my spirit free. I'm happy that you do. The book of life is brief And once a page is read, All but love is dead. That is my belief. And, yes, I know how loveless life can be. The shadows follow me, and the night won't set me free. But I don?t let the evening bring me down Now that you're around me. And I love you so. The people ask me how, How I've lived till now. I tell them, ""i don't know."""

Senator Klobuchar Disappoints Anti-Torture Group
[LESS INFO] 43 VIEWS | ADDED 21:20:27 11/26/10
Members of, "Stop Torture at the Top," met with Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar on November 24. The meeting had been requested about a year ago and it was preceded by a meeting with her staff the week before.
This group, an amalgamation of many Twin Cities peace groups, delivered a plea for the senator as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, intervene with the Dept of Justice to pursue and prosecute the ; crimes of torture committed by senior government officials including George W. Bush. Bush, currently on a book tour, has stated publiclly that he authorized torture, specifically waterboarding. The group cited issues of international law, the fact that torture is a crime that transcends national borders and that prosecution for torture may be initiated by any prosecutor in any country. There is also the documented fact that torture trickles down, those trained in torture transfer that skill to other jobs. It takes many years to remove the effect of torture practice as has been demonstrated in several Latin America countries. The price of US refusal to prosecute the war crime of torture is a serious loss national prestige and the moral high ground. It is also an excuse for increased terrorist activity. Senator Klobuchar declined to make any major commitment to act; she did promise to consider sending a written question to the Attorney General after the next review meeting by the Judiciary Committee. She did not want to spend any of her limited direct time with this issue.

The Switch :
(Walt Disney Pictures)
Release: 08/20/2010 A 40-year-old unmarried woman decides to become pregnant by inseminating herself with a turkey baster. What she doesn't know is that the sperm is from her best friend, who must live with the secret that the child is his.
Nanny McPhee Returns:
Production Information “I am going to explain to you the way I work. When you need me, but do not want me…then I must stay. When you want me, but no longer need me…then I have to go.” —Nanny McPhee In Nanny McPhee Returns, Academy Award®-winning actress EMMA THOMPSON (An Education, Stranger Than Fiction, Nanny McPhee, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility) returns to the role of the magical nanny who appears when she’s needed the most and wanted the least in the next chapter of the hilarious and heartwarming fable that has enchanted children around the world. In the latest installment, Nanny McPhee appears at the door of a harried young mother, Mrs. Isabel Green (Academy Award® nominee MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL of Crazy Heart, The Dark Knight, Stranger Than Fiction, SherryBaby), who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war. But once she’s arrived, Nanny McPhee discovers that Mrs. Green’s children are fighting a war of their own against two spoiled city cousins who have just moved in and refuse to leave. Relying on everything from a flying motorcycle and a statue that comes to life to a tree-climbing piglet and a baby elephant who turns up in the oddest places, Nanny McPhee uses her magic to teach her mischievous charges five new lessons. Starring alongside Thompson and Gyllenhaal in Nanny McPhee Returns are RHYS IFANS (Notting Hill, Pirate Radio, Greenberg) as Mrs. Green’s villainous brother-in-law, Phil, and legendary two-time Academy Award®-winning actress DAME MAGGIE SMITH (Becoming Jane, Harry Potter series) as the delightfully enigmatic Mrs. Docherty. Nanny McPhee Returns is directed by BAFTA winner and two-time Emmy nominee SUSANNA WHITE (television’s Generation Kill, Bleak House, Jane Eyre) from a screenplay by Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Emma Thompson, based on the character from the “Nurse Matilda” children’s book series by CHRISTIANNA BRAND. It is produced by LINDSAY DORAN (in her fifth collaboration with Thompson, including Nanny McPhee, Stranger Than Fiction and Sense and Sensibility) and by Working Title Films’ TIM BEVAN and ERIC FELLNER (Green Zone, Atonement, Bridget Jones’s Diary). The accomplished behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography MIKE ELEY (Touching the Void, television’s Grey Gardens), production designer SIMON ELLIOTT (Brick Lane, television’s Bleak House), editor SIM EVAN-JONES (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe), eight-time Oscar®-nominated composer JAMES NEWTON HOWARD (The Dark Knight, King Kong, Salt) and two-time Oscar®-nominated costume designer JACQUELINE DURRAN (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice). The family comedy’s executive producers are DEBRA OSBORNE (Nanny McPhee, Atonement), LIZA CHASIN (Nanny McPhee, Pride & Prejudice) and Emma Thompson. SYNOPSIS Mrs. Green is at the end of her rope. Her three children—Norman (ASA BUTTERFIELD), Megsie (LIL WOODS) and Vincent (OSCAR STEER)—are constantly fighting with each other. Her husband, Rory (EWAN MCGREGOR), is away at war and hasn’t been heard from in months. Her brother-in-law Phil is pressuring her to sell him Rory’s half of the family farm and her employer, Mrs. Docherty, is beginning to behave very oddly indeed. On top of all that, her posh niece and nephew, Celia (ROSIE TAYLOR-RITSON) and Cyril Gray (EROS VLAHOS), are being sent to the farm from London for an unlimited stay, and the village warden, Mr. Docherty (SAM KELLY), keeps warning her that bombs could accidentally fall out of the sky at any moment. It’s all too much for Mrs. Green. She doesn’t know it yet, but the person she needs is Nanny McPhee. Unfortunately, Mrs. Green’s situation is even worse than it appears. Phil has been telling her that he has a buyer lined up who will give them a good price for the farm, but in truth he owes a gambling debt to the shadowy Mrs. Biggles. Mrs. Biggles has sent two female thugs, Miss Topsey (SINEAD MATTHEWS) and Miss Turvey (KATY BRAND), to threaten Phil and force him to get the farm away from Mrs. Green to pay off his IOU; if he succeeds, the Green family will lose everything. Cyril and Celia show up a day early while Mrs. Green is away at work. The rich city children and their country cousins hate each other on sight, and their fighting quickly escalates to epic proportions. Mrs. Green comes home to find absolute mayhem in her house. She is trying in vain to stop the fighting when she hears a knock at the door. She opens it to reveal the unsettling figure of Nanny McPhee. Nanny McPhee takes one look at the warring cousins and knows immediately that these children need her. She repeats her well-known phrase: “When you need me but do not want me, then I must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go.” She bangs her stick, and the children are suddenly hitting themselves instead of each other. Eventually they agree to Nanny McPhee’s demand to stop what they are doing and apologize. Lesson One, to stop fighting, is complete. Later that evening, Nanny McPhee continues to give the children a taste of their own medicine. When they refuse to share beds and say they’d rather share with a goat or a cow or an elephant, Nanny McPhee bangs her stick and the children are forced to make room for each other as well as for the animals they’d named. Lesson Two, to share nicely, is complete. When Phil lets the family’s valuable piglets escape in an attempt to make Mrs. Green desperate enough to sell the farm, Nanny McPhee uses her magic to force the children to cooperate in the search, and even to enjoy each other’s company. Working together, the children manage to capture the piglets and return them in time to be sold to the Greens’ neighbor, Farmer Macreadie (BILL BAILEY). Lesson Three, to help each other, is complete. The children are just starting to get along, and Mrs. Green is finally becoming more relaxed, when a telegram arrives bearing the terrible news that Mr. Green has been killed in the war. Everyone is overcome with grief except for Norman, who “feels it in his bones” that his father is alive. Cyril offers help—his father, Lord Gray (two-time Academy Award® nominee RALPH FIENNES), is “very high up in the War Office” and can find out what’s happened to Mr. Green if only they can find a way to get to London. Before long, they’re being whisked across the countryside in the sidecar of a motorcycle driven by none other than Nanny McPhee. Back at home, Megsie and Celia find a note from Norman telling them where he and Cyril have gone and why. The girls realize they have to prevent Mrs. Green from selling the farm while Norman is gone. But later that morning, Phil shows up with a sale contract and a pen. The girls try to stall him, but time is running out. Cyril and Norman have an adventurous ride to London, and then arrive at the office of Cyril’s imperious father. At first Lord Gray dismisses the boys’ request, but Cyril stands up to his father for the first time and demands his help. Lord Gray looks into the matter and reveals that Rory Green is missing in action, not killed, and that no telegram was sent from the War Office. Norman realizes that his wicked Uncle Phil has forged the telegram for his own purposes and that he and Cyril must get home right away. Back at the farm, Megsie and Celia do their best to prevent Mrs. Green from signing Phil’s contract, but eventually Megsie loses hope. She whispers urgently, “Nanny McPhee, we need you!” Suddenly, a baby elephant—the same one that Nanny McPhee had deployed earlier for the lesson in sharing—appears in the kitchen. When Phil and Mrs. Green aren’t looking, the baby elephant sucks every pen in sight into its trunk. The children are delighted and Phil is temporarily confounded, but he eventually finds another pen and forces it into Mrs. Green’s hand. All seems lost, but suddenly a passing enemy plane accidentally drops a bomb into the Greens’ barley field, exactly as Mr. Docherty had predicted. The thud causes the ink to spill and ruin the contract, but the bomb doesn’t explode. The boys return and Norman tells his mother that Mr. Green is missing but not dead. Mr. Docherty faints at the prospect of actually defusing a bomb, and the children realize they have to do it themselves. In the end, the children defuse the bomb and Lesson Four, to be brave, is complete. Phil is arrested, the harvest is brought in by Nanny McPhee’s magic, the children have become friends, and Mrs. Green’s life has at last become manageable. Lesson Five, to have faith, is complete, and it’s time for Nanny McPhee to go. Genres: Family Comedy Starring: Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rhys Ifans and Maggie Smith Piranha 3D

He has over 70 years as a performer, and the 65th Anniversary of his weekly radio show Folksong Festival in 2010 (the only radio show in the USA who dared feature blacklisted folk singers during the McCarthy era). Just some of the folk artists who regularly appeared on Oscars radio show in the 1940s included Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White (and Josh, Jr.), Paul Robeson, Burl Ives, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee and Pete Seeger; He has written eleven books on folk music, his 1952 million selling song "A Guy is a Guy" was Song of the Year, and as co-founder (with Johnny Mercer, Sammy Cahn and Frank Sinatra) and Curator of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and is one of the last three remaining performing artists to have shared the stage with Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, Josh White, Burl Ives and Paul Robeson (along with Pete Seeger and Josh White, Jr.). Kerrey is known for having taken part in the Thanh Phong Massacre in Vietnam, outlined by Wikipedia to be a gruesome bloodbath: "On February 25, 1969, he led a Swift Boat raid on the isolated peasant village of Thanh Phong, Vietnam, targeting a Viet Cong leader that intelligence suggested would be present. The village was considered part of a free-fire zone by the U.S. military. Kerrey's SEAL team first encountered a peasant house, or hooch, and killed the people inside with knives. While Kerrey says he did not go inside the hooch and did not participate in the killings, another member of the team, Gerhard Klann, said that the people killed there were an elderly man and woman and three children under 12, and that Kerrey helped kill the man." A scathing Counterpunch article from May 2001 outlined how Kerrey is wanted as a war criminal for doing the CIA's dirty work and killing innocent civilians, as well as the fact that Kerrey is referred to by former Nebraska Senator John DeCamp as "emotionally disturbed" as a result of his Vietnam experience. Regarding the investigation into the 9/11 attacks, Kerrey wrote in a March 2009 book review that "It was simply too time-consuming for part-time service" and that the "examination of this conspiracy should go on, though not by the 9/11 Commission". Kerrey went on to address the public's pervasive doubts of the official government story, and as he puts it, "why so many people have come to believe alternative conspiracy theories". A Newsweek columnist from March 2009 explains that Kerrey had feared that the 9/11 investigation "depended too heavily on the accounts of Al Qaeda detainees who were physically coerced into talking" and that "Kerrey said it might take "a permanent 9/11 commission" to end the remaining mysteries of September 11" The 9/11 Commission Report, considered by many to be a coverup , and sham , is often dissected by the alternative media and best-selling author Theologan David Ray Griffin. OPEDNEWS.COMCommissioner Bob Kerrey confronted with questions regarding 9/11/01 November 2, 2009 - LA County Libertarian Examiner Martin HillBob Kerrey, former U.S. Senator and member of the 9/11 Commission, spoke Friday at the the University of Redlands Town & Gown Cultural Series.Kerry was questioned by several audience members regarding the 9/11 commission report, which is the government's official version of events regarding the attacks on September 11th 2001. John Shanahan P.E., licensed member of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, attended the event. "I had no idea what the subject of his discussion would be", Shanahan explained, "but I went there with some preparation for asking a hostile question about his involvement on the 9-11 commission and why did he NOT resign instead of going along with the program. I was not selected to ask a question." Shanahan, in addition to owning an engineering firm, is a Constitutionalist who has successfuly beaten seat belt tickets and stop sign tickets in court. "The auditorium was fairly large", Shanahan continued, "with graduated level floor seating and balcony seating--capacity of possiblly 350, and was at least 80% full. Kerrey started at about 5p.m. and could not have been speaking for more than about a half hour. I thought that we would have the balance of the time for questions. Even though they cut the questioning off at slightly before 6PM, every time there was an opportunity, at least 6-8 people raised their hands". "Pretty much Kerrey revealed how he supports big government and its involvement in health care. He's grateful to big health care for the prosthetic that he received after his wound in Vietnam--he said nothing about the lies told by big government to get our military involvement in the first place). He says that we must address climate change or it will be our undoing, and advocated much more money to be spent on education and affirmative action." Shanahan, who regularly wears a lapel pin debunking the government version of events, got a chance to meet Kerrey afterwards. "My head was reeling with all of the hostile questions that I was developing even though I never got a chance to pose a public query. When I met him for the cookies and coffee outside the auditorium, he started reading word by word the pin that I had on my shirt 'The--official--911--story--is--a--big--lie'. You should have seen the sour expression that came over his face. He did not appear to appreciate my questions and statements on global warming, either." "I shook hands with him after the meeting, introduced myself to him and challenged him on his views on global warming. He knew nothing about www.oism.org and Dr. Art Robinson's 1998 petition against the Kyoto Protocol; he changed the subject and one of his handlers rescued him from me." Bruno Bruhwiler, founding member of We Are Change L.A., took the opportunity to confront Kerrey, asking him how he sleeps at night, to which Kerrey responded with bathroom humor, joking "I don't think I do sleep well at night, I get up to take leaks." Bruno said he intended to admonish Kerrey that now is not the time for levity, but Kerrey went on to admit that the commission did not answer all the relevant questions, that he came onto the commission late, and lacked both the proper time and funding. We Are Change has confronted many politicians and insiders regarding the events of 9/11. "You try to get in touch with their humanness", Bruhwiler explained. Kerrey's son was born on 9/10/01, and during their exchange, Bruhwiler addressed how the world has changed a lot since that time, with torture and tyranny occuring as a result of 9/11. "You pull the audience in", he explained. "Whoever's listening, they get educated and snap out of whatever false reality they're in." In the hopes that the general public will learn about the issues surrounding 9/11 and government corruption, Bruhwiler suggested that the audience look up world trade center building seven. We Are Change LA took several videos of their exchanges with Kerry, and will release them in the coming weeks. Shanahan remarked on Kerrey's bathroom humor as well. "He's obviously a complelety soulless individual. But when all is said and done, he's a CFR member. What else needs to be said?"
