Who am I?This is a tough question to answer. Every artist puts a bit of themselves in their work. It wouldn't be art otherwise, would it? Art is a personal expression of the soul. This is my reflection on who I am. It barely scratches the surface, but it's impossible to sum up any one person in sixty seconds. Early, I say that I don't want you to ask me who I am. I hate being introspective. I like to think about other people or characters, not myself. Even if the characters are similar to me, they aren't me. I can change anything about them that I want. Maybe that's why a self-portrait was so hard for me. I know who I am, but I don't know how to tell you who I am. This is my effort to show a piece of myself to you.Special thanks to Robert Hornak for recording the beautiful music in the background and to Laura Deeney for being so willing when I showed up at her door with a camera.

As my mother insists , "You're a long time dead." And before that you try to notch up , what she calls, " a good innings."Enjoy the changes.Birthdays register their years upon the face. All you have to do is look -- but look so you can see.I used to be maskmaker and for me, faces -- anyone's face, including my own -- warrant celebration.

Pauline Boty is little known outside the art world but in the early sixties she was one of the hottest talents on the London Pop art scene, a contemporary of David Hockney and Peter Blake. She died from cancer in 1966 at the age of just 28, and her work was stored away in a barn and largely forgotten. In the last decade her paintings have begun to be shown again, and in 1999 Tate bought The Only Blonde in the World, her portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Michael Bracewell discusses the life and work of Britain’s first female Pop artist.
