Al Gore and Van Jones: Wind energy not a partisan question
Rebuild the Dream's Van Jones tells Jennifer Granholm that wind energy and the production tax credit should be an easy win. "This is something good for red states and blue states," he says. Al Gore points out that the push against wind energy is not due to a flaw with the source, but a result of the power of the oil companies. So how can politicians justify fighting against green initiatives? "I think they're in hock to the oil and coal companies," Gore says, "the fossil fuel industry has made it their mission to try to kill renewable energy." Analysis: 18th Party Congress Delay May Foreshadow Zhou Yongkang's Fall
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Reuters released an exclusive report on Tuesday that the Chinese Communist Party may be delaying its 18th Party Congress by several months. That's according to three un-named sources from within the Chinese regime. The 18th Party Congress is originally schedule for either September or October, and would determine a power transfer taking place in March next year. Reuters says the Congress may now be pushed back to December or January next year, and suggests this delay is because of Bo Xilai, the disgraced Chongqing Party Secretary now under investigation. Some commentators say Communist Party leaders need more time to deliver the final judgement. NTD's Senior China Analyst Zhang Tianliang believes there's another reason - and that's how Wen Jiabao and Hu Jintao will take down their political rival, security chief Zhou Yongkang. Zhang says Zhou Yongkang's membership in the Politburo Standing Committee makes him a trickier target, and this would lead to a delay of 18th Party Congress. [Zhang Tianliang, NTD Senior China Analyst] "They should have enough time to clean up officials who have relationships with Bo Xilai and decide who will be in the standing committee of Politburo. But if they work on Zhou Yongkang's case, that will be a big issue. Zhou Yongkang has a higher ranking and he has more people who are working for him, so I think if you see the postponement ... Rowing The Pacfic - Exhausted to Hallucination (Thursday 10 May 9PM)
This extraordinary one-off documentary recounts the incredible story of two British men who risked their lives again and again in pursuit of an astonishing world record; to row the entire length of the Pacific Ocean. Overcoming perilous hurricanes, life-threatening electrical storms, 50-foot waves, near starvation and a fire that almost took their lives, Mick Dawson and Chris Martin set a new world record when they rowed 7000 miles across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to San Francisco in just 189 days. With exclusive access to the unique footage they recorded on-board every step of their compelling journey, Rowing the Pacific makes for a compelling, high-adrenaline adventure programme which will grip and inspire audiences. From the very start, Mick and Chris knew they were putting their lives on the line by even attempting this highly dangerous voyage. There had already been six failed attempts -- including one fatal one -- to cross the North Pacific. Mick himself had been involved in two of them, including an expedition that ended in a terrifying capsize when his boat was flooded by a freak wave. This film tells the amazing story of these two men who were pushed to the very edge and beyond, yet who survived to tell a remarkable story of human endurance and courage. GoingNative 8: Introducing Casablanca - A Modern C++ API for Connected Computing
[LESS INFO] 132 VIEWS | ADDED 16:03:31 04/30/12
Welcome to the 9th installment of GoingNative. Charles flies solo this time around as Diego is on a well-deserved break from work.
At GoingNative 2012 , Herb Sutter addressed the need for more general purpose standard C++ libraries - high level libraries - for use in modern computing . So, things like HTTP, REST, JSON are important today (and working with these technologies is not as easy as it should be in C++), not to mention simplifying asynchronous programming for C++ developers. We live an asynchronous world and C++ libraries need to evolve to compensate for this fact (and catch up to .NET and Java in this regard both on the client and on the server...). What's the story for C++ in the cloud?
A very small group of C++ developers inside Microsoft have started an incubation project to make native libraries that afford both developer productivity and performance and power - and for C++ developers . We love this! This is the Casablanca API and it takes full advantage of C++11 .
This episode is dedicated to the Casablanca "dev lab" project with the hope that all of you will download and experiment with the API , vet it, push it, break it, provide feedback to speed up its maturation (it is alpha quality, of course (it's an incubation and this is the first release), so there will be a few bugs, but it's stable enough to be useful right now). Go get it!
What does Casablanca provide, exactly?
With Casablanca, you get support for doing things like developing REST services for Azure, or accessing them from clients via an HTTP library , sending JSON data , accessing Azure blob and queue storage , and using TCP for flexible networking needs , all in a library that takes advantage of modern C++.
Casablanca also gives you a convenient model for composing asynchronous operations . C++ 11 offers a whole new set of capabilities that can make dealing with asynchronous operations easy, and Casablanca takes advantage of that throughout.
Another aspect of Casablanca is its implementation of the actor programming model , which has proven itself useful in building reliable and scalable systems. (not familiar with the Actor Model, well, learn from the inventor of it here ).
Table of Contents :
[00:00] GoingNative(); //Charles flies solo for this episode (Diego is on vacation). Quick chat about what's coming (new STL series (the person, not the library)), introduction to Casablanca , a modern C++ API (incubation) for asynchronous client/server computing (so, modern C++ for the cloud and the client)
[01:49] Charles has a conversation with Casablanca engineering team members Niklas Gustafsson and Steve Gates.
[44:20] ~GoingNative(); //Charles talks about Casablanca - please download the libraries and experiment, provide feedback, help vet this new (experimental) API .

Low returns hamper German bond sale
www.euronews.com Germany sold 2.4 billion euros worth of government bonds maturing in 32 years time. However demand was lacklustre and Berlin was not able to sell all the bonds it had on offer. Analysts said that was because the rate of interest that investors will get is so low and it also reflected an upturn in confidence in shares based on better-than-expected recent company earnings. The weak outcome mirrors that seen at an auction on 11 April when Germany launched a 10-year bond, and underscores how surging demand for the safety of the country's bonds has pushed investment returns so low that some are reluctant to buy at current levels. Nevertheless, Germany remains in a strong funding position. It has sold roughly half the debt it needs to this year and is able to borrow more cheaply and for a longer period of time than any other euro zone country. Politics pummel shares prices
www.euronews.com Politics pushed Europe's stock exchanges deep into the red on Monday and the effect splashed over onto financial markets world wide also pulling down the euro's value. Investors sold off shares to buy things like safe-haven German government bonds. The main focus was France where Socialist Francois Hollande is looking likely to be the next president, but in the first round of voting there was a higher turnout for the extremes - on the left and the right. Market analyst Francois Chaulet at Montsegur Finance in Paris said that creates uncertainty: "For foreign investors, seeing a marked radicalisation of politics in France, with the Front National getting 18-19 percent, and the far left also getting strong support, that makes them nervous about the ability of the future government to maintain good social cohesion." Also fuelling fiscal concerns about the eurozone was the government crisis in the Netherlands, a close ally of Germany in the austerity push. In addition there was weak economic data with surveys of companies in Germany and France showing contraction denting hopes for economic growth in the region. 3DS Crossover Game and Skyrim Trademark - Press Pause Daily
[LESS INFO] 5 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:00 04/13/12
The 3DS gets an interesting crossover game and Skyrim phrase to be trademarked.
SHOW NOTES:
Story 1:
News came out awhile back that Namco Bandai, Sega, and Capcom were secretly working on a cross over game for the Nintendo 3DS, and now we’ve finally got some details.
The game will be called Project X Zone, and will be a strategy RPG that will feature characters from several of the companies most well known properties.
The characters appear to be joined in pairs and the current roster includes:
From Capcom: Ryu & Ken from Street Fighter, X and Zero from Mega Man, Demitri and Dante from Darkstalkers and Devil May Cry, and Chris and Jill from Resident Evil.
From Sega: Shinguji Sakura and Ogami Ichiro from Sakura Wars, Pai and Akira from Virtua Fighter, Kurt and Riela from Valkyria Chronicles, Ulala and Touma from Space Channel 5 and Shining Force EXA.
And from Namco Bandai: Sanger Somvold from Super Robot Wars, Jin and Ling Xiaoyu from Tekken, Kos-Mos and T-elos from Xenosaga, Yurie and Estel from Tales of Vesperia, Kaito and Black Rose from .hack.
As of now, that is all of the details available. No word on the type of gameplay it will have, or when it will be released. Maybe we will find out more at E3.

Story 2:
Gamers love Skyrim, it’s just a statement of fact. Bethesda’s parent company knows this as well and is taking steps to trademark the game’s well known phrase.
According to a story on Joystiq, Zenimax has filed a slate of trademark applications for the phrase “FUS ROH DAH”.
The filings cover everything from video game and computer related materials, to merchandising and “entertainment services”
The article speculates that Zenimax is most likely just protecting their IP against any unauthorized profiteering.
We suspect that is the real reason, but you never know. I mean I can totally see gamers walking down the street in a hoodie that has a chip that shouts the phrase out at the push of a button. Which would be pretty sweet.

Max Browne - USC - Full Ride Highlights Top 2013 QB Decision
The nation's No. 1 quarterback for the Class of 2013, Max Browne, committed to Lane Kiffin and USC during an announcement made outside of Seattle last evening. Browne's decision is a major boon for a USC side still affected by NCAA sanctions and struggling to gain 2013 commitments at the moment. USC is not the only school affected by Browne's announcement. Oklahoma and Alabama were heavily vested in the Sammamish, Washington quarterback, but must look elsewhere now that Browne is headed to Los Angeles. At this point, both schools will push hard to court Cooper Bateman out of Salt Lake City, while Oklahoma will also get involved with Cody Thomas out of Colleyville, Texas. Browne, who threw for 95 touchdowns and more than 8000 yards over the past two seasons as a sophomore and junior, is considered the best quarterback recruit college football has seen in years. He joins a school with a strong legacy of signal callers in Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart and Matt Barkley. Annan gets China onboard Syrian peace push
www.euronews.com The UN's international envoy to Syria Kofi Annan has got Chinese backing for a peace plan just hours after President Bashar al-Assad agreed to its demands for a "national dialogue". That has not prevented his army from continuing its military action in several places. While China's backing for Annan represents a closing of international ranks against al-Assad there is no provision in the UN's initiative for his removal from office. Ending the violence, admits Annan, will be "a long and difficult task". Yesterday Bashar al-Assad made a rare public frontline foray into Homs's hardline Baba Amr district, which the army says it has recaptured from rebels after 26 days of heavy bombardment. Activists say hundeds of civilians have died in the fighting.
