Red-Light Cameras Boost Coffers, Rile Drivers: Infowars Nightly News
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 20:13:37 02/08/12
Kevin Fagan SF Gate February 6, 2012 California has the most expensive red-light camera tickets in the world -- the fine is so steep that one camera in Oakland generates more than $3 million a year -- and a Fremont man is launching a protest group to do something about that. If Roger Jones has his way, that freezing dread that knifes through a driver the moment he sees the overhead flash of a traffic camera will become a thing of the past. But he's facing quite an uphill fight against officials hungry for the cash the cameras sweep in and police who are convinced they make the roads safer. Anyone in California snapped violating a red light pays a fine of $480, and according to the traffic-watch site TheNewspaper.com, no other jurisdiction anywhere has a tab that high. The second-highest fine in the United States is $250, and it is usually more like $100. http://www.infowars.com/man-fights-red-light-cameras-aimed-at-boosting-coffers/

PSN Changes and Game Violence Bill In OK - Press Pause Daily
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 04:00:00 02/08/12
PSN making some changes and a violent game tax on tap in Oklahoma.
SHOW NOTES:
Story 1:
So if you are a Playstation Network member, you probably got an email on Monday stating that there would be some changes on the way for the system.
According to Sony, stating today, your account will no longer be called a Playstation Network account, but would instead be called a Sony Entertainment Network account.
Now before you got and get worried that you’ll have to create a new name, or password, and go through a whole complicated process, Sony has said that this is just a change in name only.
According to them, “This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music, and more."
So I guess Sony is looking to create more synergy across their entertainment properties. Only time will tell if the move will be a good one.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/psn-accounts-undergoing-name-change-6349822
Story 2:
So another politician is trying to attack violent video games, this time in Oklahoma.
Democratic state representative William Fourkiller (which is a fairly ironic last name don’t ya think?) has introduced House Bill HB 2696. This bill would levy a 1% tax on any video game that receives an ESRB rating of Teen, Mature, or Adults Only. This is on top of any other existing sales tax. The money raised would go to create two new funds: one to get youth involved in outdoor activities, and one to with bullying prevention.
According to Fourkiller, games are a major cause of obesity and bullying in our society, but since they make a lot of money, could be part of the solution.
Of course, the game industry isn’t taking this lying down. Dan Hewitt of the Entertainment Software Association says that he is disappointed that politicians are still trying to attack gaming in a way that is patently unconstitutional. He also said that "Taxing First Amendment protected material based on its content is misguided."
So a lot of politicians REALLY don’t like violent video games. They keep trying to control them, and it always ends the same way. You’d think they would learn their lesson by now.

RnRTV #275: Puddle of Mudd, Black Sabbath Almost + No To Newt!
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 23:47:00 02/07/12
Rock n Roll TV ... the music news for you from me. Hosted by Share Ross. This episode - Puddle of Mud's Wes Scantlin arrested; Black Sabbath reunion not quite the same; Jack White solo album and no to Newt.
Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin was arrested last month after police discovered narcotics on him. He was pulled over for a traffic violation, the cops found pills and some sort of powdery substance in his possession. Wes seems to be having a rough time of things. He owes about $45,000 in back taxes to the feds and an additional $17,000 to the State of California and is in the process of getting divorced from his super hot wife.
The Black Sabbath reunion is making headlines again. Drummer Bill Ward issued a public statement advising fans that he will not participate in the band's reunion unless he is presented with an agreement that reflects his contributions to the group's success and longevity. Basically… he said he ain't getting what he feels is a fair share of the Sabbath money pie and that he deserves better than what the band management have offered him. The other three members have responded publicly saying.. they are sorry to hear he feels that way… the door is open.. but they are carrying on without him with Rick Rubin in Birmingham while guitarist tony Iommi is also battling cancer.
Madonna is furious over M.I.A. flipping the bird during her Superbowl set.
Beyonce and Jay-Z have applied for a trademark for their baby's name blue ivy.
The Jack White solo album Blunderbuss will debut in April.
Motorcycle fan Billy Joel surprised the crowd at a Miami vintage bike fair by riding up on his motorcycle and then jumping on the stage to jam with a local band.

Meet The Press Panel Continues 'Obama Hates Religious Liberty' Meme Over Contraception
[LESS INFO] 56 VIEWS | ADDED 01:00:06 02/06/12
In Catholic masses all over this country, priests are injecting politics into their sermons , condemning the Obama administration for the new Health and Human Services regulations that religious institutions must offer contraceptive benefits to its members . It doesn't require members to violate their personal beliefs by taking advantage of the benefit, mind you. But this new regulation acknowledges that there are some who may work in a Catholic hospital who may not have the same stricture against contraceptives and want it to be part of their health services. But that's perhaps a too nuanced view: >
The Catholic Church reacted strongly Friday to a White House defense of new rules that will force many religious employers to provide contraception to their workers in government-mandated health insurance plans.
"The White House information about this is a combination of misleading and wrong," said Anthony Picarello, general counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He said the bishops would "pursue every legal mandate available to them to bring an end to this mandate. That means legislation, litigation and public advocacy. All options are on the table."
The new regulations were announced last month by the Department of Health and Human Services as part of an effort to guarantee that women receive free "preventive" healthcare services, including cervical cancer screening, breast pumps — and contraception. They require employers to include those services in their employee health insurance plans by August.
Religious institutions can qualify for an exemption if the services violate their beliefs, but not if they employ large numbers of people who do not share those beliefs. [..]
In a blog post Wednesday, the White House responded that the new rules won't force anyone to buy contraceptives. Cecilia Muñoz, director of the Domestic Policy Council, wrote: "Over half of Americans already live in the 28 states that require insurance companies [to] cover contraception." These include such large states as California and New York, she said.
The Catholic bishops shot back Friday, saying it was misleading to say that no one would be forced to "buy" contraceptives, because everyone who contributes to an insurance plan will be paying a portion of the subsidy that provides for free contraception.
Alex Castellanos and David Brooks are only too happy to pick up the bishops' mantle and further the meme that this is a solid shot across the bow of religious liberty in Obama's war on religion. How nice of them to legitimize Newt Gingrich that way. Rachel Maddow and Xavier Becerra try gamely to point out that refusing contraceptive benefits in the twenty first century is beyond ridiculous, but of course, host David Gregory gives Alex Castellanos the last word.
Out of curiosity, are the bishops equally against ED drugs like Viagra? Why do I hear no denouncing of working against "God's plan" there? The reality is that despite the church's teachings, as much as 98 percent of Catholics admit to using contraception . Would that the church elders focus their efforts on dealing honestly with issues that are in line with the priorities of their members: poverty and social justice , labor unions , climate change and dealing honestly and ethically with their own sex scandals rather than plunge into politicking within homilies on Bizarro World accusations of violations of religious freedom.

Foggy Florida Pileup Leaves One Girl Without Family, Country Or Health Insurance
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:27 02/02/12
On Saturday morning Lidiane Carmo woke up in Florida, where she was attending a church conference with her father, mother, and sister. Carmo was the youngest in her family, and they had traveled to Florida with her pastor father, her aunt, uncle and cousins as well as several other other church members.
On Sunday morning, Lidiane woke up in a Florida hospital with broken bones and internal injuries after the van they were traveling in was involved in Sunday's horrendous highway pileup on I-75 near Gainesville, Florida. Her father, mother, sister, uncle, aunt and cousin were killed. She is the sole survivor in her immediate family.
Lidiane's parents came to the United States from Brazil 12 years ago, bringing five-year old Letiticia and three-year old Lidiane with them. They had legal visas which have since expired.
Lidiane is now an orphan. She has no health insurance. She has no legal status to remain in this country. And she has no family beyond those remaining members of her father's church. She is the sole survivor.
If we had a DREAM Act in place, Lidiane could petition for citizenship here since she entered the country legally. But we don't, and because of Republicans' insane need to pander to bigots and racists, we're unlikely to see it without a completely different Congress.
I'm writing about Lidiane because she puts a very human face on what they're doing when they block the DREAM Act. I wonder if any of these crazy Republican candidates could gaze into her frightened, hurting eyes, and tell her she has to go back to a country she doesn't even know. I think they could, and that should concern us all.
Congress forced a clause into the Affordable Care Act which excluded undocumented immigrants from coverage. The exclusion wasn't simply from federal funds for subsidies. They are barred from purchasing insurance on the state-based exchanges and the national exchange. Barred. Even if they pay with their own funds. Barred.
Today a 15-year old child is in a hospital in Florida, suffering from severe injuries, bereft of her family, in Rick Scott's state. What will become of her?
Atlanta Journal-Constitution: >
As for Lidiane's status, one expert had reassurance for her friends and surviving relatives.
Charles Kuck, an Atlanta immigration attorney, told the AJC that Lidiane would not be deported because of a federal law granting special status to juveniles. Lidiane can become a ward of the state and be issued a green card, allowing her to stay, Kuck said.
"This child will be fine," Kuck said. "She's clearly an orphan at this moment."
But the Brazilian consulate was not as reassuring: >
At the church Tuesday night, a representative from the Brazilian Consulate in Atlanta addressed crash survivors and others in the congregation.
"I want to give you my love and our support," Ana Claudia Rodrigues, deputy consul general for the consulate, said through a translator.
But when crash victims asked about help, Rodrigues said she could only convey their concerns to the Brazilian government. Immigration issues are not up to the consulate, Rodrigues said, but the U.S. government.
"She didn't answer any of our questions," Weberson Barbosa, a crash survivor still on crutches, said Tuesday night. "We need someone to really view our pain and take action."
Lidiane's family, before the crash Yes, they really do. I wonder. Would Ron Paul tell this family to rely on charity? Would Mitt Romney tell this family to rely on charity? Would Newt Gingrich summon the neighborhood council to testify to Lidiane's character? Oh wait. She hasn't been here long enough.
Something is really broken in a country where a 15-year old child can suffer like this while politicians preach family values and American exceptionalism. Really broken.

Nintendo's New Online Plan and New Ace Attorney - Press Pause Daily
[LESS INFO] 8 VIEWS | ADDED 01:52:38 02/01/12
Nintendo announces their new online network and Capcom takes you back to the courtroom.
SHOW NOTES:
Story 1:
Nintendo has lagged behind both Sony and Microsoft when it came to connecting gamers online, but it looks like that is about to change.
Last week Nintendo announced their new online effort, called simply enough the “Nintendo Network”. This new network will cover both the 3DS and the upcoming Wii U console, and will give Nintendo gamers features more in line with both PSN and Xbox Live.
Like those systems, the Nintendo Network will eventually offer a user ID system that gives gamers personal accounts, abandoning the current system that uses Friend Codes. Their hope is that multiple family members will be able to use the same system.
Also on the horizon, Nintendo will be able to sell digital downloadable games and DLC, and it also looks like while they won’t use microtransactions on any of their games, they won’t block third party developers from doing so.
So...it’s been a long time coming, but it looks like Nintendo is learning from it’s mistakes and trying to step up their game when it comes to their online experience. Only time will tell if they are successful.

http://www.shacknews.com/article/72216/nintendo-network-will-allow-microtransactions
Story 2:
The Ace Attorney games are very popular, and Capcom recently announced that they are in development of the 5th game in the series. So far no release date or platform have been announced yet, but there is sure to be more information soon.
At the same event, which was held to mark the 10th anniversary of the series, Capcom also announced that they would be bringing the first three games in the series to iOS and Android devices in a new HD remake that will feature new higher resolution artwork. And Capcom has stated that if users had already purchased an earlier mobile release of the game, they would be able to download these new versions for free.
If you love this series then you shouldn’t OBJECT (Ace Attorney pose) to new games to play. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait TOO long for more information about the next game.

Newt on This Week: Mitt Can't Tell The Truth, Has A 'Character' Problem
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 21:00:11 01/29/12

Now, I'm going to assume that you didn't come in during the third act of Newt's career, and therefore you can appreciate just how funny it is when, on This Week , he's whining to Jake Tapper about how hard it is to pin someone down who will just lie about anything ! >
TAPPER: In many ways, you are where you are because of your debate performances. Last week, you had a couple that were not your strongest, to say the least.
GINGRICH: Yep.
TAPPER: Why do you think that was? What happened?
GINGRICH: I was amazed. I mean, I'm standing next to a guy who is the most blatantly dishonest answers I can remember in any presidential race in -- in my lifetime. And I've seen, I think, every presidential debate -- presidential campaign debate or virtually every one. And, you know, he would say things that were just plain not true.
Look, it's a little bit like yesterday's L.A. Times report. I mean, now it found 23 foreign accounts he never reported until he released his taxes. He would say -- he would say thing after thing after thing that just plain wasn't true.
And I had -- I don't know how you debate a person with civility if they're prepared to say things that are just plain factually false. And that's going to become a key part of this. I think the Republican establishment believes it's OK to say and do virtually anything to stop a genuine insurgency from winning because they are very afraid of losing control of the old order.
We tried a moderate in 1996 for president. He lost. We tried a moderate in 2008 for president. He lost. It's very hard to take Romneycare and Obamacare and have a debate and have the Republican win that debate. You need to have a conservative who is a very big distance away from Obama, because you've got to have the space so that, in fact, you can communicate with the American people.
TAPPER: I want to follow up on some of these comments you're making about Mitt Romney. The race has taken something of a nasty turn. Here's an ad that you are currently running in Florida.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
(UNKNOWN): What kind of man would mislead, distort and deceive just to win an election? This man would, Mitt Romney. If we can't trust what Mitt Romney says about his own record, how can we trust him on anything?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
TAPPER: It sounds as if you're saying in that ad, and here this morning, that Mitt Romney is unfit and does not have the character to be president.
GINGRICH: I am saying that he would not be where he is today, the debates this week wouldn't have been where they were, if he had told the truth. And I think that's a very serious problem for somebody. I think that you look at -- again, he's supposedly a great manager, yet he can't explain 23 different foreign accounts that weren't reported. He's a great manager. He can't explain being on the board of directors of the company which got the largest Medicare fine in history for fraud?
Somehow, every time it's bad, he didn't know about it or he wasn't aware about it. He didn't really understand the Planned Parenthood by law, the largest abortion provider in the United States, is in Romneycare? Romneycare literally defines Planned Parenthood in a key -- in a part of the bill. He didn't seem to quite know it.
Every time you turn around, this great manager consistently doesn't understand whatever it is that would have hurt him. And you just have to look back and say, why can't you be candid with the American people? You cannot be president of the United States if you cannot be honest and candid with the American people. And that's compounded, frankly, by a number of the ads he runs, which are just plain false.
TAPPER: So you're saying that he does not have the character to be president of the United States, because he's, in your view, not honest.
GINGRICH: I'm saying it is a very -- it's a -- it is a very serious problem when you have somebody who on item after item after item -- I mean, the clip you had just now, he knows what he said in that clip is not true. I did not resign in disgrace. I did not pay a fine. And, in fact, CNN ran an entire piece recently in which they pointed out that on every single substantive count in the ethics investigation, every single one, that I was vindicated, including vindication by a federal judge, vindication by the Internal Revenue Service, vindication by the Federal Elections Commission . Now, Romney knows that.
(CROSSTALK)
TAPPER: Well, the clip -- the clip...
GINGRICH: So he's run a campaign of vilification.
TAPPER: The clip I just played was actually one of your ads, but let's get to that Romney ad that you're talking about...
GINGRICH: No, no, but I'm talking about the earlier -- I'm talking about -- I'm talking about the clip you showed of him campaigning yesterday.
TAPPER: Oh, OK.
GINGRICH: What he said yesterday, this wasn't true.
TAPPER: There...
GINGRICH: And so at some point, I don't quite -- I don't quite -- to be honest, Jake, I don't quite know how you deal with an opponent, because you want to deal with them with civility, you want to deal with them in a positive way. I want to talk about big issues.
I talked about space this week, which I think is important for the country's future. I talked about housing. I talked about creating jobs. I talked about the record I had working with Ronald Reagan to create jobs and the record I had working with Bill Clinton to create jobs. We talked about welfare reform as the first great entitlement reform.
There are all sorts of positive things. We have a proposal on Social Security which would allow every young American the option of having a personal Social Security account on the model of Galveston, Texas, and the country of Chile. So there are a lot of positive things.
And if you'll notice, when you get outside the zone where Romney carpet-bombs with Wall Street money, and you look at what's happening in the rest of the country, I'm ahead in all three national polls that were released this week. I'm ahead by a big margin, because when you come to positive ideas, I represent real change in Washington, I represent unleashing the spirit of the American people to get us back as a country, rebuilding the country we love. And when we get to a positive idea campaign, I consistently win.
It's only when he can mass money to focus on carpet-bombing with negative ads that he gains any traction at all.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that she will not stay, stating that after two decades, she is ready to step off the high wire of American politics --- Clinton said will stay on until the President nominates someonelse --- She said after 20 year of being it would be probably best to just find out how tired she is ---- stating that she loves the job but has found the constant international travel physically grueling --- Clinton said she plans to work as hard as she can to the last minute , but is now ready to return to her own interests such as reading, writing, and maybe teaching, along with some personal travel ### Last week at the U.N.'s mail intake center, a New York Police Department spokesman said a shipment containing 16 kilograms of cocaine was seized --NYPD's chief spokesman, said the drug was in a white bag, masquerading as a diplomatic pouch that raised suspicions when it was being scanned as it was stamped with what looked like a poor version of the U.N. logo, with no name or address on the shipment sent from Mexico City through Cincinnati --- The Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the substance inside the shipment intercepted was cocaine --- U.N. undersecretary-general for safety and security Gregory B. Starr said that there is nothing to indicate that this had anything to do with anybody at the United Nations adding that it did not come from a United Nations facilityand in his opinion, it was not intended to go to a United Nations facility ********************************* THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION TO BUY OR SELL ANY SECURITY! National Holidays mean ‘Curfew’
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 11:35:20 01/25/12
In North East India, National Holidays mean ‘Curfew’. Effective from 6 p.m. today evening, Manipur and majority of India’s North East go into a state of curfew for more than 24 hours. On 25th January as the country is gearing up for the celebrations attending Republic Day, the 62ndanniversary of the nation adopting its own constitution, the North East descends into the gloom and oppression of a police state. “Ever since my childhood, I thought Independence Day and Republic day are holidays meant to be spent inside the house watching television,” says Mercy Kamei, a firebrand human rights activist and IndiaUnheard Community Correspondent from Imphal, Manipur. Every year on the eve of the two national holidays, the insurgents declare a bandh and the government reacts with a curfew and by heavily militarizing even the civilian areas. According to Mercy, it is impossible for the people to venture outdoors without being frisked. The streets are deserted and only the casualty wings of the hospitals are allowed to remain open. Mercy remarks that more than fear the deathly silence of a town in curfew on the eve of joyous celebration confuses and disillusions the people. “There is something offensive about the way the police regard you as a suspect on the very days that the country got its freedom and its constitution respectively,” says Mercy. The National Holiday curfew has become an age old routine in the North East. Only VIPs and other dignitaries get to hoist the flag and attend the parade while the common people are anxiously holed up inside their homes. A violent riot in Guwahati Assam in 1968 on the eve of Independence day set the precedent for this biannual ritual. There have been no major instance of violence since but the cycle has remained. The insurgents declare bandh and the security forces come in with their guns and barricades. The people are shuffled between the two and are increasingly growing dissatisfied with the banal tableaux. “These days a few corner shops stay open,” says Mercy, “They need their daily income to support themselves. And it gives the people a chance to go outside and stretch their legs. It doesn’t exactly feel like being a citizen of a independent democratic republic but it is certainly better than sitting home and watching t.v.”

State of the Union 2012: "This Nation is Great Because We Built it Together"
Stand with the President: my.barackobama.com Which brings me back to where I began. Those of us who've been sent here to serve can learn from the service of our troops. When you put on that uniform, it doesn't matter if you're black or white; Asian or Latino; conservative or liberal; rich or poor; gay or straight. When you're marching into battle, you look out for the person next to you, or the mission fails. When you're in the thick of the fight, you rise or fall as one unit, serving one Nation, leaving no one behind. One of my proudest possessions is the flag that the SEAL Team took with them on the mission to get bin Laden. On it are each of their names. Some may be Democrats. Some may be Republicans. But that doesn't matter. Just like it didn't matter that day in the Situation Room, when I sat next to Bob Gates -- a man who was George Bush's defense secretary; and Hillary Clinton, a woman who ran against me for president. All that mattered that day was the mission. No one thought about politics. No one thought about themselves. One of the young men involved in the raid later told me that he didn't deserve credit for the mission. It only succeeded, he said, because every single member of that unit did their job -- the pilot who landed the helicopter that spun out of control; the translator who kept others from entering the compound; the troops who separated the women and children from the fight; the SEALs who charged up the stairs. More than that, the mission only ... From: BarackObamadotcom Views: 53173 721 ratings Time: 03:35 More in News & Politics

State of the Union 2012: "Rewarding Companies That Create Jobs Right Here in America"
Stand with the President: my.barackobama.com Tonight, my message to business leaders is simple: Ask yourselves what you can do to bring jobs back to your country, and your country will do everything we can to help you succeed. We should start with our tax code. Right now, companies get tax breaks for moving jobs and profits overseas. Meanwhile, companies that choose to stay in America get hit with one of the highest tax rates in the world. It makes no sense, and everyone knows it. So let's change it. First, if you're a business that wants to outsource jobs, you shouldn't get a tax deduction for doing it. That money should be used to cover moving expenses for companies like Master Lock that decide to bring jobs home. Second, no American company should be able to avoid paying its fair share of taxes by moving jobs and profits overseas. From now on, every multinational company should have to pay a basic minimum tax. And every penny should go towards lowering taxes for companies that choose to stay here and hire here. Third, if you're an American manufacturer, you should get a bigger tax cut. If you're a high-tech manufacturer, we should double the tax deduction you get for making products here. And if you want to relocate in a community that was hit hard when a factory left town, you should get help financing a new plant, equipment, or training for new workers. My message is simple. It's time to stop rewarding businesses that ship jobs overseas, and start rewarding companies ... From: BarackObamadotcom Views: 5797 114 ratings Time: 02:35 More in News & Politics
