Drive it!: The Motor Magazine
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 00:30:00 05/23/12
This edition of Drive it! is on the speedy side. Sportscars from Germany and Italy - plus a legendary dream on wheels from France.Present it! The Audi S6 sedan, S6 Avant and S7 SportbackAudi presents three new models in S-series line-up. The S6 series is available as a station wagon or sedan. The S6 Avant and the S7 Sportback both boast a fastback. And they’re all powered by the same powerful engine, a four-cylinder V8 biturbo with 309 kilowatts of thrust. A special cylinder engine program saves gas by switching off four of the cylinders during more leisurely driving. This means that, on average, the S6 four-door sedan needs 9.6 liters of gas to cover 100 kilometers. Test it! The Citroën DS5The Citroën DS was a massively popular car in France for several decades. Its futuristic form and sensational self-leveling suspension are legendary. So is the new DS5 another automotive revolution? The designers have done all they can to give the DS5 a conspicuous look. Too short to be a wagon, too high for a coupe - and complete with chrome "sabers” at the front: the DS5 is not here to keep to conventions. On the comfort front, however, it’s no match for the original DS. Its suspension is far too rigid.Admire it! The Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 Spyder PerformantePure sportiness and extreme performance are what define an elite sports car and the stuff of the "Made in Italy" legend.Introducing the Lamborghini Gallardo 570-4 Spyder Performante. Carbon fiber technology has made the Performante lighter, more agile and dynamic. The 570's name says it: the super sportster's 5200 cc generate 570 horsepower, or 419 kilowatts of power, taking it from zero to 100 kph in just 3.9 seconds. Its top speed clocks in at 324 kph.Examine it! Apps for Car DriversSmartphones are as much a part of many people's lives as cars. And of course, there's any number of applications, or apps for short, designed especially for drivers. Of what real value are they? We test a couple out with three typical smartphone users. Seemingly useful apps can be downloaded and installed quickly and easily. Can a virtual glass of water help make our driving habits more fuel-efficient? Can an app help us find cars we've parked and then lost somewhere in a maze of streets?Vintage: BMW 319/1The BMW 319/1 is one of the rarest and most in-demand German cars from the inter-war era. Only 178 BMW 319/1s were ever built. The few available today cost 230,000 euros - more than a Ferrari. Andreas Mooser is lucky enough to own one of these vintage models. He picked up his after it was damaged in a car crash, and spent 14 years restoring the engine and the body. Today, Andreas and his car take part in vintage vehicle trips. He drives the car himself to such events. That's because he thinks cars - even vintage models - are made for the road.

NYPD Brutally Beat Occupy Protesters, Media at Zucotti Park
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:11 03/20/12
An Occupy Wall Street protester says police gave demonstrators little warning before kicking them out of a New York City park overnight and that officers beat many of them during the arrests.
After NYPD raided Zuccotti Park on March 17 2012, about 100 people were arrested. Among them a young girl suffering a seizure and panic attack as she was being brought to the bus. The cops not only handle the situation wrongly, carrying her by the head as she's seizing, it also takes 17 minutes until professional help arrives. Protester standing outside the barricades had to make the 911 call to get EMT to come .
The videos above apparently show occupy activist Cecily McMillian, who was once profiled in Rolling Stone Magazine . Initial reports from the scene indicate that police broke her ribs; and just as troublesome, were further reports that police denied McMillian access to the outside world while in the hospital early Sunday morning. She apparently was denied a phone call to her lawyer or doctor, as well as access to her friends who had followed her to the hospital.
Video streaming by Ustream
From the livestream, at the 3:40 mark, police take an Occupy Wall Street medic and slam his head into a glass door. No word on the medic's condition yet, but it did this to the window.
Ryan Devereaux of the Guardian tweeted at one point, "The sergeant who throw the girl is the same one that punched my cameraman and told me he "didn't give a f*ck" about my press pass. #m17"
I wonder at what point an event is decided to be a "riot." The NYPD antagonized and attacked protesters and media alike, and arrested people on trumped up charges (standing on a sidewalk too long?!?) and this sounds like a riot, if not an all-out war on freedom of expression.
Occupiers have begun to circulate a petition calling for an investigation into NYPD violence, it's a vailable online here if you'd like to sign on.

Brett Loudermilk & Rob Zabrecky: The Magic of Being Different
The private member club 'Magic Castle' in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angels is the Mecca for magicians; people like Orson Wells, Carry Grant and David Copperfield have all come here to perform. When Brett Loudermilk was a little boy he dreamt of coming to this place. Fascinated by the world of magic, circus and performance, this child was different from others. He walked on glass, hammered a nail into his nose and when he saw a sword swallower on TV at the age of 15, he simply tracked down his number and asked him to teach this very dangerous side act over the phone. Today Brett is 23 years old and still the youngest professional sword swallower in the world. He brings so much humor and a modern approach to one of the oldest and unfortunately dying forms of attraction. His trademark is never to talk about how dangerous his acts are. Most of the time it is hard to believe that his performances are not faked. They are almost like magic. Coming to the 'Magic Castle', Brett one day discovered a very unique magician: Rob Zabrecky. There is no glitter, no drums, and no theater when Rob enters he stage. He has created a persona that is so fascinating to watch and that truly makes magic an art form again. Like other artists, Rob's journey into magic is self-discovery. He doesn't take his inspirations from other magicians, but from music, Dadaism, movies and every day life. He sees life as magic and his acts reveal his personality more than creating huge illusions %agrave la Copperfield ... From: MercedesBenzTV Views: 582 6 ratings Time: 04:30 More in Entertainment

2012 March Madness Bracket Busters
[LESS INFO] 5 VIEWS | ADDED 03:15:39 03/14/12
Welcome to RideThePine.com
Its bracket busting time. For all of the experts and for the person in your office who thinks they know everything about March Madness, here’s a news flash. Joe Lunardi’s wig has as good a chance as anyone to pick a winning bracket. But we will give you some tips on how you can survive the bracket busters.
Lets get a couple of facts straight, only once has all number one seeds in the tournament actually made it to the Final Four , that was in 2008. #1 Seed Syracuse losing starting center Fab Melo, because of eligibility requirements, became an easy choice to not make it to even the Elite Eight. I've got Vanderbilt beating them in the Sweet Sixteen, mostly because I can’t go against school spirit that consists of sports bras and body paint . Can we go back to Fab Melo for a second. How much of a jerk must you be to have your own school rule you ineligible right before the biggest event of your season? I’m guessing pretty big!
If you are still picking brackets the way you did back in the 90s, its time to start thinking differently. Since the "One and Done" requirement came into effect back in 2006 all the rules have changed.
I just told you that the only time EVER that four #1 seeds made it to the Final Four was in 2008. Twice since that rule went into affect has there been Final Fours with NO #1 seeds. In fact, a #1 overall seed has not won the championship since Duke back in 2001. So you can rule out Kentucky. How can you pick them anyway? Look at their star player Anthony Davis’ unibrow . How can you trust the mental toughness of a player that can’t recognize how terrible a unibrow looks or comes from a family that openly supports it. Thats his mom.
Here is a little strategy when picking those opening round games. If you are not picking a 8th ranked team or higher to make it to the Sweet Sixteen than take a gamble and pick against them in the opening round. For example I don’t have Temple making it to the Sweet Sixteen so I’m picking the USF/CAL play-in game as an upset? Most people wont pick a play-in game winner anyway so if things go my way, I could steal a point in the pool. You have to take some risks because playing it safe, doesn’t work. I normally try to pick at least one 4th, 5th, and 6th seed to lose in the opening round.
Do you know the cool/trendy pick for National Champion this year. Mizzou . And when I say cool, I mean like Lebron James wearing fake glasses cool, which means its not really cool because everyone is doing it. So don’t fall into that trap, although I got them making a run to the Final Four don’t be surprised if they lose to Marquette in the Elite Eight because of Buzz Williams dancing feet .
So who do I got? Kentucky, Mizzou, Florida State , and North Carolina in the Final Four with the Tar Heals beating Kentucky to win the National Championship. Enjoy my favorite time of the year and good luck not busting your bracket.

On Location – Frameless Glass Guard Rails
[LESS INFO] 4 VIEWS | ADDED 08:00:13 02/27/12
For the exterior guards off the front deck of our recently completed case study house, we have used frameless glass panels secured by a row bottom mounted stand-off posts. This detail maximizes the view because there are no intermediate posts nor are there any top rails that will obscure the sight lines. The panels are made out of laminated glass, which simply means that there are two thinner pieces of glass with a clear plastic film in between them to give them added strength. They have been detailed to extend past the edge of the deck and are mounted to the deck structure at the bottom using a series of round fasteners. These fasteners are installed into structural blocking which has been put into place behind the cedar finish of the deck edge. There is an intentional gap of space … Continue reading →

Nachbarnebenan continues his tutorial from the last episode. He isolated his model from the a bit to vivid background by making two images from his RAW file. One is crisp and colourful ? best for the model. The other one is soft and a bit dull ? this tones the background down. In this episode he combines them to one image with a layer mask. Did you know that there is a filter in GIMP to emulate the look of an image for colour blind people? Nachbarnebenan shows how to use it. It?s no so important for photography ? but think of all the graphics work done with GIMP. By using this filter you can make a difference in accessibility If you want to get into programming plugins for GIMP in Python ? there is link to this great HD video from Gimpusers.com. And for the next episode you?ll need a Trench coat and dark glasses ? we?ll enter the Stasi headquaters at night. Sorry, no TOC up to now, but at around 15:30 is the great segment about GIMP and colour blindness.
