Sahara Smith - "Are You Lonely": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Sahara Smith is a natural. Or as the Austin Chronicle observes, "She's the real deal all right." Don't take our word for it. Listen to her debut album on Playing in Traffic Records, Myth of the Heart, and you're bound to agree with the Dallas Morning News that "Smith is a revelation." The disc is hailed as "a gorgeous album for all lovers of carefully chosen words, rich imagery and ethereal vocals" by Texas Music magazine and "a richly impressive, intensely soulful debut album," by the Los Angeles Times. All that and more is to be savored on Myth of the Heart. It bows with the alluring "Thousand Secrets," which opens a window on the vulnerable places we all have, as Smith writes, "For every broken branch there is a mile of fallen leaves/But no one knows the river flows a thousand miles deep." Propulsive churning tracks like "Are You Lonely," "The Real Thing" and "All I Need" make feelings of longing and desire palpable, while the up-tempo title song sings about resisting the urge to love. Meditative yet kinetic auras grace Smith's reflections on being lost within love ("Tin Man Town"), empathy ("Angel"), mortality ("The World's On Fire") and life's travails (the closing cut "Twilight Red," which Smith wrote at age 13). And such songs as "Train Man," "Midnight Plane" and "Mermaid" embody the notion of poetry in motion with their evocative images of travel and places near and far. The album was cut in primarily live sessions in Los Angeles, produced by Emile Kelman, known ... From: sxsw Views: 104 3 ratings Time: 03:55 More in Entertainment

If You Love Serve
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 13:59:21 02/03/12
If you love, serve ●Love is the identification of a Christian. ○Love is not an emotion, it is an opportunity to bless others with no expectation of receiving anything back. Matthew 25:31-40 31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ ●We serve Jesus by serving others. (We love those who Jesus loves.) *Member of my church ministering in HEB. Love made him do it. ●Love releases the power of God to serve others. (Answered prayers, praying for the sick, calling in divine provision to meet a need, multiplying what is lacking “food”.) ○Jesus used the power of God to serve. ○Peter and John used the power of God to serve. “Silver and Gold i do not have...” * Ministering to the sick Mexico and providing what a little girl needed. ●Selfishness hardens the heart and pulls you away from the presence of God.

I'm Lynn Lumpkin CRWENewswire Sports Commentator. This is the Sports Corner. A University of Wisconsin student, identified only as John Doe, alleges former senior associate athletic director John Chadima put his hand down the student's pants at the end of an alcohol-fueled party during the football team's trip to the Rose Bowl. According to an independent report released last night, the incident happened in Chadima's suite at a Los Angeles hotel on Dec. 31 and the student said he was "shocked and frightened" and slapped Chadima's hand away. On Jan. 6, Chadima was put on administrative leave and resigned the same day. Through his attorney, Chadima had previously issued an apology for a "lapse in judgment, " saying, "I make no excuses and have come to the realization that over the past few months, alcohol had controlled and consumed my life. I am taking steps to correct that problem in my life at this time. I will take full responsibility for my lack of judgment and actions that evening." Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 electric guitars from his personal collection to the Mr Holland's Opus Foundation , a non profit organization that supports music education in public schools across the country. Per Eddie's request, The Foundation will distribute the guitars to music programs in public schools throughout Los Angeles where there are not enough instruments to meet the demand of the students.
"If I can help a kid discover a liking, or even a passion for music in their life, then that's a wonderful thing. Music has provided a good life for me and hopefully it can help make life better for others with this donation."
Kid Rock apologized for lighting up a cigar at a smoke free Travis Tritt show in Detroit and on the opposite coin, Rihanna was photographed puffing on a suspicious looking cigarette in Hawaii and went on Twitter to brag about its cannabis content. Ohhhh. Really? A pop star who smokes weed? How dangerous.

Mel Gibson’s Jail Video May Be Shown to Jury in Discrimination Case
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 21:28:24 01/18/12
The biggest movie Mel Gibson never wanted you to see may get a limited release, but not without a legal fight. The deputy who arrested Gibson in 2006 for a DUI is suing his department, saying that superiors discriminated against him because of his Jewish faith. Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Deputy James Mee wants a jury to see video of Gibson after his arrest, which reportedly features the actor climbing the bars of his holding cell, throwing a phone, and attempting to urinate on the cell floor. The Department’s legal team says releasing the video would only serve to embarrass Gibson and has no relevance to Mee’s religious discrimination claim. The actor’s infamous anti-Semitic comments during his arrest made headlines around the world. The judge has yet to decide whether the video will be shown.

Big Harp - "Everybody Pays": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Big Harp is the by-product of a three-year whirlwind for husband-and-wife duo Chris Senseney (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney (bass, backing vocals). In those three years a boy from the western Nebraska cow town of Valentine (pop. 2800) and a girl born and raised in Los Angeles (pop. 8000000)... Met. Fell in love. Made a baby boy. Got married. Made a baby girl. Started a band. The end result is White Hat, the debut full-length for Omaha's Saddle Creek. The songs range from gun-in-her-garter saloon narratives and paranoid soul struts to intimate ballads of quiet resignation and open-hearted love songs. The recordings are raw and un-fussed over, with the spirited energy and honest emotion of live performance. Drawing from the classic country and folk of Senseney's childhood and anchored by Drootin's rock-solid rhythms and indie-punk roots, White Hat contains echoes of artists from Townes Van Zandt to Nick Cave, Willie Nelson to Captain Beefheart. Fitting for a couple in no rush to slow down, White Hat was recorded at LA's Nightingale studios in a mere three days. Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder recorded the album and drums were handled by Chris Phillips. While currently based in Los Angeles, the pair have long connections to Omaha. Drootin, a member of The Good Life, has toured and recorded with acts such as Bright Eyes, She & Him and Azure Ray. It was actually on a tour with The Good Life that she was swept off her feet by the handsome ... From: sxsw Views: 38 3 ratings Time: 03:26 More in Music
