Michelle Bachmann's appearance yesterday on This Week with Jake Tapper was one of her more cringe-inducing performances. Not because she isn't someone incapable of delivering lines and staying on message, but because the content of her message is so obviously boilerplate campaignspeak from someone who's so clearly sliding too far down, too fast to win. Instead, she's promising a "miracle:" >
TAPPER: My next guest sounds just as confident, but her path forward is a lot more murky. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann joins me from Des Moines.
Congresswoman, thanks for joining us, and happy new year.
BACHMANN: Happy new year to you. Great to be on with you this morning, Jake.
TAPPER: So the last time you and I spoke, you had just won the Iowa straw poll. The Des Moines Register poll had you tied for first place with Mitt Romney with 22 percent of the vote. Now that same poll has you with 7 percent of the vote. What happened to your campaign?
BACHMANN: Well, we've had a very good campaign. And I think what's happened is, a lot of candidates have come in, and Iowa voters and national voters have taken a look at all of the other candidates. But we have done I think what no other candidate has done, and that is, after the last debate, we've gone across all of Iowa, all 99 counties, and we've actually done heavy, heavy retail politics where we've gone into cafes and into living rooms of Iowans, and we've made a very strong connection with a lot of people.
And if you look at the polls, it's upwards of 40 percent to 50 percent of Iowans haven't made their decision yet. And I think the polls, what they're reflecting will be very different from what we're seeing on Tuesday night, because people make their decision, quite honestly, in the caucus room. Iowa is very different. People gather in living rooms. They gather in elementary schools and churches, and they make their decision on the spot with their neighbors. And we have done, like I said, what no other candidate has done the last two weeks. We've put over -- almost 7,000 miles on our bus, and we've literally gone from town to town to town meeting with people directly. And we saw thousands of people switch their vote just in the last couple of weeks, so we think there's going to be a very profound shift that people see on Tuesday night.
TAPPER: Well, one of the -- one of the dilemmas that you've had is that a lot of the voters that you are competing for, conservative voters, Christian evangelicals in some cases, are also being wooed by Rick Santorum and Rick Perry. And Santorum has momentum right now. He is at third place in the Des Moines Register poll. And if you look at the last two days, he's in second place. He has strong social conservative credentials. He's fluent in foreign affairs. He won statewide twice in a key swing state, Pennsylvania. So why should voters go for you and not him?
BACHMANN: Well, because I'm the strongest core conservative in this race. There is no comparison with all of the other candidates and my credentials. No other candidate has current national security experience in the race. I sit on the House Intelligence Committee. I am daily involved with the issue of national security. No other candidate is.
And as what we -- what we are seeing happening with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, that will be a formidable issue immediately with the next commander-in-chief. I'm ready. No other candidate is currently ready in that issue.
Gee, Michelle, I know it makes me feel better that you'll lie about Iran "obtaining" a nuke. It shows you'll say anything at all to win - always a great quality in a president. >
Also, I'm the only federal tax litigation attorney in this race. When it comes to dealing with the number-one issue that's on voters' minds, which is out-of-control spending, I have that credential in spades over any other candidate, because no other candidate was leading on this issue in the halls of Congress or in Washington or nationally. I'm the one that called for saying "no" to letting Barack Obama increase the national credit card limit.
Psst, Michelle honey? Try not to say things like that around sane people. It doesn't help. >
And when it comes to social issues, there's no one who can -- who can compare with my record. I'm a mother of five, a foster mother to 23 children that we've raised, and also I have an unassailable record on life, on marriage, on religious liberty. So when it comes to values and issues, there is no one who comes close to where I am on those issues.
But I think even more so, I'm the one that's been proven and tested in the fires of Washington, and that's why I think you saw people vote for me in the Iowa straw poll, but also it's what we have done on the ground. No other candidate has done more retail campaigning on the ground.
TAPPER: But...
BACHMANN: And I think we'll bear the fruit of that on Tuesday night.
TAPPER: But with all due respect, Congresswoman, this is the same pitch you've been making all summer and all fall and -- and up until today, and you're in last place, according to the polls. And -- and somebody that has similar credentials to you and a similar appeal to you, Rick Santorum, is showing huge momentum. Why you over him?
BACHMANN: Well, again, I think the polls take a few days to catch up. And -- and we have made that incredible deposit of going in every single county. We've drawn 300 people at a stop, 250 people at a stop, and I think a lot of that isn't yet reflected in the polls. And the main thing will be on Tuesday night.
We're looking forward. We're not looking in the rear-view mirror. And what we're seeing going forward, especially with the tremendous outpouring of young people that are coming out to work on our phone banks and to go lit dropping and door-to-door is nothing short of amazing. We're -- we're number-one in the category of enthusiasm. If you look at all of the candidates, which candidate has the most enthusiasm among their supporters, I'm that candidate. I'm number-one with the 18- to 29-year-old voters, which are highly motivated, and they're doing all of the work.
So I think that if you look at my past races, and polling data showed me actually losing and 8 points behind in previous races that I've had when I've run for Congress, and yet I -- I win by 8 and 13 points. So polls don't -- are -- sometimes belie the truth on the ground, and that's what we see. This isn't just about polling. This is about what we're seeing in reality, and I think Tuesday night people are going to see a miracle.
TAPPER: In the last week, your campaign has gotten involved in a big kerfuffle about one of your top supporters, your chairman in Iowa defecting and going to the Ron Paul campaign. I don't want to get into the weeds on that debate. There was a back-and-forth about whether or not he was paid off. He denied that you accused him of doing that. But this is not the first time you've made a charge like this. You've also said this about other supporters with Newt Gingrich in Georgia, with Rick Santorum.
Don't you risk -- making these charges, doesn't that risk voters seeing you as making a final gasp of desperation?
BACHMANN: Oh, for Heaven's sake. Of course not. What this shows is the tremendous momentum that we have out of the last debate. From person after person, they said that I won the last debate in Sioux City, Iowa. And the reason why is because, when Ron Paul made his very dangerous statements, which is he was just fine with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, or with Newt Gingrich taking $1.6 million from Freddie Mac and he was unable to defend that, I -- I took it to them.
And what people saw during the last debate is that I have the ability, of all of the candidates on the stage, I have the best ability to take it to Barack Obama in the debate and hold him accountable. We had tremendous momentum coming out of the last debate, and we saw it in county after county in our 99-county tour, where people were just appalled by Ron Paul's position. They thought it was dangerous.
That's why we saw literally thousands of people switching their decision on the spot, and that's what you saw, was this crush of momentum. And so we saw some different actions coming out of the Ron Paul campaign. And I think that people will be very surprised at the results on Tuesday night, because I think people will see a lot of defections away from Ron Paul because they see -- especially with the aggressive nature of the actions on the part of Iran in the Straits of Hormuz, people are seeing how important it is that we have a commander-in-chief who is conversant, prepared, knowledgeable, and has good judgment on foreign affairs. And of all of the candidates in the race, I'm best suited for that -- that portion of being commander-in- chief.
TAPPER: Congresswoman, we only have a little bit of time left, so last question. In the interests of candor and being based in reality, positing that you feel that you're going to have a very good night on Tuesday and that all the polls are wrong and you're going to do well, but assuming that the polls are right, isn't that, practically speaking, the end of your campaign if you come in last on Tuesday?
BACHMANN: Well, we've bought tickets to head off to South Carolina. And we are looking forward to the debates. January is a very full month. We're here for the -- for the long -- for the long race. This is a 50-state race. And we intend to participate not only in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, but to go all the way, because I intend to be the Republican nominee and defeat Barack Obama in 2012, because America needs a candidate that will be in the legacy of a Ronald Reagan and of a Margaret Thatcher. That's what I intend to do, is to be America's iron lady.
TAPPER: All right. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, good luck on Tuesday. And hope you have a wonderful 2012.
BACHMANN: Thank you. Same to you and your listeners.

The Tea Party Nation's War On Christian Churches
[LESS INFO] 4 VIEWS | ADDED 18:00:09 12/21/10
Clearly, Tea Party Nation's Judson Phillips has his own ideas about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I didn't realize that when the teabaggers held up signs saying "We want our country back", they meant back to 1790. Explain to me why African-Americans want to be part of this group? It's not like that era worked out well for them.
But now that the tea party groups have made inroads into Congress and have the Republican Party kowtowing to them, Phillips has a new target for the Tea Party Nation. In this time when we remember the birth of Christ, Phillips is going after the Methodist Church for their "socialistic" leanings. No, I'm not kidding. >
Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips has a dream: "No more Methodist Church."
A blog post on his Tea Party Nation page says that on Friday he walked by the United Methodist Building in Washington D.C., which had a sign that said, "Pass the DREAM Act." Phillips wrote: " I have a DREAM. That is, no more United Methodist Church."
Phillips explains that he was formerly a member of the church, but he left because it's "the first Church of Karl Marx," and "little more than the "religious" arm of socialism."
"The Methodist church is pro-illegal immigration," he continues. "They have been in the bag for socialist health care, going as far as sending out emails to their membership "debunking" the myths of Obamacare. Say, where are the liberal complaints on the separation of church and state?"
"In short, if you hate America, you have a great future in the Methodist church," he says.
Lord, protect us from your idiot followers. To say that he's obviously unfamiliar with the Constitution to subvert the First Amendment in that way would be kind. But he's also very, very unfamiliar with the teachings of Christ himself to find the teachings of the Methodist Church to be religious socialism. Seriously, dude?
In one of the proofs of His divinity, Jesus multiplied loaves and fishes to feed everyone, spreading his wealth to all, without regard to their ability to pay. He healed the sick (our first universal health care plan!) and railed against the money changers and advised the wealthy that their material status in this world gave them no guaranteed access to the next . >
Jesus spoke remarkably often about wealth and poverty. To the poor he said, "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God," (Luke's version). To the rich he said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth," and "go, sell what you have, and give to the poor." When the rich turned away from him because they couldn't follow his command he observed, "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
For Jesus, helping the poor and the outcast is not optional: it is the essence of what it means to love God. In the parable of the last judgement he welcomes the righteous into heaven saying, "I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me." When the righteous answered that they didn't recall doing any of these things, he said, "as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."
We are to "forgive our debtors" and "give to every one who begs from you." But don't handouts contribute to moral decay? Jesus was more concerned about the moral decay in those who are so attached to their wealth that they would hoard it for themselves. In our better moments most of us recognize that giving does not corrupt. We sacrifice to give good things to our children and do our best to provide them with years of carefree existence as they grow up. We do this to give them a sense of security and a foundation for growth. People who have been devastated by misfortune, or for whatever reason are down and out, may need even more help because they may not have what it takes to recover on their own. Many of us will help a friend in hard times, even though we know we will never be repaid. It is when dealing distantly with people in the abstract that we fall back on the "moral decay" argument.
Frankly, I think the Methodist Church is probably better off with Judson Phillips out of their flock. His understanding of Christianity is sadly wanting.

This is a video poem I made.
The beautiful title track is from the album, "Ice Castle,"
by KIRSTY HAWKSHAW
Enjoy.
In Sight I sit as I’ve been taught By the enlightened ones Searching for the naked truth It's been a long road With many miles already traveled And many more to come Will I ever see beyond the veil? Not just a glimpse precious peace? My mind's always a-chatter Mired in hopes and fears Fixed on dreams and desires Grasping the past As much as the future And then there's that grind The dissolution Of my body and brain The gray hair turning grayer The need for more and more sleep Sickness and death Just around the corner Yet they teach of a freedom How do I get it? The answer's in my mind somewhere Beyond what I normally see I am told I just have to look Observe the myriad displays All fresh and new As if I were a newborn baby Or my Calico kitty The calm does come Like from walking in the deep forest Or viewing a meandering stream And when I feel it It's like coming home to eat a warm dinner And rest with my loved one And yet it all comes back Like a Caribbean storm The need to be permeated By beauty and fortune Praise and recognition The need to be jealous And angry I don't want any of that Not really But surely I cannot live without my mind The only way to get rid of the pain Is to get rid of my mind And so I return to the forest And stand beneath a lone Pine Its magnificence so apparent Gentle strength cradles me Standing below soft green needles Shimmering in the breeze I don't think it worries about fulfilling its destiny. It already IS And then as if by magic There's no separation Between me and the tree I become this tree Yes The tree is me I'm clear Wow Words can't describe this. And the very next moment I think of sushi and beer I have a place where I was born I'm from Kitimat, British Columbia My last name is Hungarian My mother is a Schubert from Austria I’m married to someone so near and dear to me I have places to see and things to do I want to be an artist Better yet A craftsman No matter how long it takes I'm all of this too Of this I have no doubt And so it is a delicate balancing act A melding of thinking mind and awareness Like the ever transmuting clouds above Dancing with the infinite sky beyond As lovers feasting on each other They are one The trick is and it's a big trick I must always concentrate Not so much on the clouds So as Not to miss out on all that heavenly glory So they tell me.

COMMUNITY BIOGRAPHIES
JOEL MCHALE
Jeff Winger
Joel McHale stars as Jeff Winger, a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked, in the new NBC comedy series "Community."
McHale is poised to make 2009 a breakout year. In addition to his starring role in "Community," he recently wrapped production on the Steven Soderbergh directed, Warner Independent dark, comedic thriller "The Informant" opposite Matt Damon. In the film, he plays an FBI agent working with agri-business insider Mark Whitacre (Damon) to stop a price-fixing scam. The film, based on Kurt Eichenwald’s 2000 bestseller, "The Informant: A True Story," will hit theatres in October 2009.
McHale is best known as the star of "The Soup," a weekly entertainment show that satirizes pop culture and current events. He also serves as a writer and producer on the show. McHale’s quick wit and sharp comedic timing have made "The Soup" a pop culture phenomenon and led to the success of "The Soup Presents" specials. McHale recently began touring the country to sold-out audiences with his stand-up act.
Born in Rome, Italy and raised in Seattle, Washington, McHale became a cast member on Comedy Central’s "Almost Live," a show from a group of Seattle-based performers that featured a mixture of skit comedy and stand-up. Following his run on "Almost Live," McHale completed the Actor’s Training Master Program at The University of Washington. After moving to L.A., McHale landed roles on "Will & Grace," "CSI: Miami" and, most recently, "Pushing Daisies." He also jumped onto the big screen with roles in "Spider-Man 2" and "Lords of Dogtown."
McHale currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and his two sons.
CHEVY CHASE
Pierce
Chevy Chase stars as Pierce, a man whose life experience has brought him infinite wisdom, in the new NBC comedy series "Community."
One of the most honored and beloved actors of his generation, Chase first came to national prominence as a writer and performer with the original cast of NBC’s "Saturday Night Live," for which he won two Emmy Awards. Soon after he had endeared himself to television audiences, Hollywood beckoned and Chase made his feature film debut in the comedy-thriller "Foul Play" with Goldie Hawn. His many memorable films include: "Caddy Shack," "Seems Like Old Times," "National Lampoon’s Vacation," "Fletch," "National Lampoon’s European Vacation," "Spies Like Us," "The Three Amigos," "Funny Farm," "Caddyshack I," "Fletch Lives," "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation," "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," "Cops and Robbersons," "Man of the House," "Vegas Vacation," " "Snow Day," "Ellie Parker," and last year’s "Funny Money."
In 1992, Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the nation’s oldest undergraduate dramatic group, honored Chase as its "Man of the Year."
Chase began his career in comedy as a writer and performer for "Channel One," a local New York underground revue that satirized television. "Channel One" later became the basis for the film "The Groove Tube." He has written for Lily Tomlin and the Smothers Brothers, and earned a Writers Guild of America Award for writing "Alan King’s Energy Crisis, Rising Prices and Assorted Vices" TV special. In addition, he won an Emmy Award for co-writing "The Paul Simon Special."
In 2007, Chase received critical acclaim for his guest-starring role on NBC’s award-winning series "Law and Order." He followed that return to the small screen with a two-episode guest-appearance on the drama series "Brothers and Sisters." Most recently, Chase guest starred on the NBC series "Chuck" and has completed production on the feature film "Stay Cool," with Winona Ryder and Sean Astin, which is scheduled for release this year.
Chase resides in New York with his wife, Jayni, and their three daughters. He moved to the Northeast over a decade ago to be continually accessible to the needs of his family, including three daughters just entering adolescence, feeling that their needs would require more than just a mom and a working actor. He has been simply a "dad" as the kids have grown through changing seasons, hormones, and schools.
Now that they are 20, 24, and 26 years old, he has decided to once again get back to the work he loves: making movies and television.

The film grossed over $90 million worldwide. The same year, Jeong had supporting roles in two other major comedies, "Pineapple Express and Step Brothers."
Jeong originally started on a different career path. He earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University and went on to attain his medical degree at the University of North Carolina. Jeong completed his Internal Medicine residence in New Orleans, all the while developing his comedy. In 1995, Jeong won the Big Easy Laff Off. The competition, which was judged by former NBC President Brandon Tartikoff and Improv founder Bud Friedman, turned out to be his big break as Tartikoff and Friedman urged Jeong to head to Los Angeles.
Once in Los Angeles, Jeong began performing regularly at the Improv and Laugh Factory, and was seen on a number of television shows including "The Office," "Entourage," and "MADtv." It wasn’t until his pivotal role as "Dr. Kuni" in "Knocked Up," though, that Jeong solidified himself as a feature-film comedian. In 2006 Jeong and fellow comedian Mike O’Connell also left a mark on YouTube as "Million Dollar Strong," a spoof rap duo. Since the video’s posting in 2006, the video has garnered over 1 million views and Jeong and O’Connell have been tapped by MTV Films to write and star in the film version.
Jeong will next be seen in the Will Ferrell produced film, "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" opposite Jeremy Piven. He will also be reunited with Bradley Cooper in the film "All About Steve," also starring Sandra Bullock. After graduating from South Pasadena High School, Brie attended California Institute of the Arts where she received her B.F.A. in acting. While there, she was one of the original cast members in the world premiere of "The Peach Blossom Fan," performed as the inaugural theatre production at Disney's REDCAT Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Brie also studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland.
Since graduating, Brie has continued to work in all forms of media, including film, television and theatre. She has performed in the Blank Theatre Company’s Young Playwright's festival and in shows at the Odyssey, Write-Act, and Rubicon Theatres, receiving an Indy Award for her haunting performance as Ophelia in the Rubicon's production of "Hamlet." Brie guest-starred on Comedy Central and Disney's "Hannah Montana" and landed leading roles in some independent films before her current role in "Community."
Brie currently lives in South Pasadena, California.

Next To Heaven - 52
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 14:37:13 09/12/07
I posted the first Next To Heaven on September 19, 2006, and today I post the 52nd. A year’s-worth of weekly short movies made from archive.org’s public domain footage – pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. I had a great time making NTH, and I think I learned a thing or two as well.
Thanks to all the people who took the time to comment. One of the best rewards of doing a videoblog is the people you get to interact with online.
Also a big thanks is due to those who helped get the word out about NTH – Freevlog , Ryanne Hodson , Michael Verdi , Karina Longworth , NewTeeVee , Blip TV , Eric Mortensen , Jay Dedman , The Daily Reel , TV Tonic , Mefeedia , Moocat , Podcast Salad , Bill Streeter , Jennifer Proctor , Cheryl Colan , Pixelodeon , Maurice Martin , The Clip Show , Cinema Minima , Rosebud Film & Video Festival , DC Shorts Film Festival , United Vloggers , and Chris Griffin .
Of course, NTH would not have happened without the amazing film archive provided free to the whole world by archive.org and Rick Prelinger . All lovers and users of media are or will be in your debt!
This is not the end; I’m working on NTH Season Two. NTH’s second season will be in the spirit of the first, but will be something very different. Stay tuned for sneak peeks. I’m looking to roll out season two in the spring or summer of 2008.
In the meantime, a best of NTH collection will be selected and re-posted here and on all of the major video portals. I’m looking for a sponsor and perhaps a curator, anybody interested?
Finally, with NTH on hiatus, I’ll have more time to make video for my first videoblog – Hopper Video . So, if you’re not already a Hopper Video viewer please check it out. I’ve got some weird and wonderful videos in the pipeline!
Thanks for watching.
Cheers Rob
