Occupy Wall Street Media Team Evicted From Rented Studio, 6 Arrested
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 00:00:35 01/05/12
If you had any remaining doubt that we're now living in a police state here in the U.S., what happened early this morning at the Occupy Wall Street Livestream office should make it painfully clear.
Ever since September 17th, 2011 and Zuccotti Park, Global Revolution Media has been a large supplier of the media coverage has been covering the Occupy Wall Street movement both here in the U.S. and internationally, providing followers of the movement with raw video footage and keeping their viewers informed.
Monitoring livestreams coming across the internet, the media team picks the best ones for rebroadcast. This small team of dedicated media broadcasters serving the Occupy movement makes finding information quick and easy, making following a plethora of events and breaking occupy news possible for followers. The Global Revolution media team operated out of a leased studio office at 13 Thames Street in Brooklyn, but continuing to do so is in doubt at this time, and the future of the operation in jeopardy.

Earlier this morning, Global Revolution Studios was ordered to vacate from their building by the NYPD in conjunction with the building department. It took three separate departments visiting 13 Thames to finally come up with a reason to remove the Global Revolution team with a posted notice despite having all applicable paperwork for the department of buildings in order. The reason given to me by the Global Revolution team is “A made up sprinkler condition.” Supporting this allegation of falsified conditions is that the very same building passed the same inspection standards back in 2011 in the month of November with no comments or concerns as to the buildings integrity or its sprinkler system.
It’s also odd how the first floor and cellar is imminently perilous to human life, and the floors directly above are perfectly fine. Even the person living illegally in the basement is perfectly fine where he is, meaning it’s specifically the area that Global Rev occupies and nothing else. One could accurately allege that this was a direct attack against one of the major voices of the movement and considering Global Revolutions direct affiliation with the Occupy movement; has made it an obvious target for this attack on free speech. The overreaching plan of these actions has been to suppress the ability of Occupy to communicate and to share the movements’ collective stories as they unfurl. By being a nexus of streams and information, authorities are attempting to do a top-down decapitation of the movements’ media coverage by once again isolating the information to the general public.
Six key members of the team were arrested at the Thames Street location, "charged with Trespass, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Resisting Arrest. They are likely to remain in jail overnight," according to Global Revolution's TV blog .
“We can do all of this from laptops”—Vlad Teichberg, GlobalRevolution.TV, after the #OccupyWallStreet and international live news protest channel was evicted from its NYC base .
Thames Street isn't the first home occupied by Global Revolution, and doubtful it would be it's last. In the beginning, activist Vlad Teichberg of Global Revolutiona worked in a small, dark, second-floor room in a clapped-out building on Lafayette at Bleecker. (His neighbors include the War Resisters League, the Socialist Party USA, and the Libertarian Book Club.) This is the original home office of globalrevolution.tv, which channels vérité video from occupations around the world through hosting sites such as Livestream.com .

Teichberg is a 39-year-old Russian immigrant with stooped shoulders and a mop of brown hair who grew up in Rego Park and is so jacked in to the electronic grid that he comes across like a character out of Neuromancer. But what makes him so interesting is that you could just as easily imagine him making a cameo in The Big Short. A math prodigy who was a Westinghouse Science Talent Search finalist before matriculating at Princeton, he left college (temporarily) after his sophomore year and went to work for Bankers Trust, the first in a string of Wall Street gigs at firms including Deutsche Bank, Swiss Reinsurance Corp., and HSBC. And what did he do in those places? He created, modeled, and traded derivatives, including some of the first synthetic CDOs. As he told the London Times, he was “one of the people [who] built that bomb that blew up the whole economy.”
Teichberg’s time in the Wall Street armament factory gave him a close-up view of everything wrong with the place: the culture of greed, the insane levels of risk, the corruption of the credit-rating agencies. “By 2001, it was obvious to me it was going to blow up,” he says, “and I wanted to be nowhere near it.” But he didn’t leave. Instead, hopping from job to job, he tried to put brakes on the process, devising new ways to value risk more accurately, only to be rebuffed by his bosses. At the same time he starting taking the money he was making on Wall Street and funding ways to undermine it.

A resident has confirmed 5 arrested, one of whom is Vlad Teichberg operator of the livestream. He also claims that police damaged camera equipment upon entering the building Tuesday afternoon.
...
Residents are reporting to Superchief that they suspect the order to vacate is a targeted attack – likely towards a Global Rev organizer Vlad Teichberg, and his 4-month pregnant wife. They report that they were able to remove an 800 pound server containing their video archives and their important documents last night.
Police did not specifically issue an order to vacate last night. Rather, they are enforcing a year-old order to vacate – which may or may not be selectively enforced now based on the Occupy presence in the space.
Those arrested were first taken to Central Booking on Centre Street, and are now at the 90th Precinct in Brooklyn at at Union St and Montrose Avenue.
Will update as more information becomes available...
Update 1 : Video footage of the police arrests show that no one from Global Revolution was "resisting arrest" as claimed. Arrests begin around 4 minutes into the video, and continue until the end when with no reason given NYPD arrest 2 people who were down the street observing on the sidewalk, view here .

Food Stamp Card "EBT" What?! Dumb Aunt more worried about stamps then Newphew who died in
[LESS INFO] 8 VIEWS | ADDED 07:42:15 08/09/11
"http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh0a2EebSi2Ho41xKQ MEMPHIS, TN - A three-year-old Memphis boy died in a house fire and his two-year-old brother is in critical condition at Le Bonheur. Both boys, say officials, were left home alone for hours on Monday, October 19th, 2009 while their mother, Melanie Dunn, ran errands and went shopping for clothes. The fire started around 3 p.m. at 1242 Effie near Elliston in South Memphis. Investigators with the Memphis Fire Department says most of the fire damage is in the rear of the house where the bedrooms are located. Neighbors like Posey Piggie watched in shock as firefighters carried the boys' tiny, lifeless bodies out of the house. ""One of the little babies,"" she says, ""looked real, you know, real limp like."" While fire investigators tried to figure out what started the fire, the boys' aunt, Marilyn Watson, stunned reporters at the scene by admitting that she and Dunn left the boys at home by themselves, not once, but twice on Monday. ""We had left them this morning,"" says Watson, ""and I had went to the food stamp office. We got back and everything was all right. I didn't know they was going to set the house on fire like that."" And instead of rushing to the hospital to be with the children, Watson's only interest was getting back inside her neice's house. ""I really need to get in there,"" she says, ""to see if my purse burnt up, 'cause I had my food stamp card and everything in there."" Neighbors Orlandria Rosser and Jasmine Lott are unable to imagine leaving children that young home alone for any reason. ""No, never,"" says Lott. ""Not two or three, especially. Not even seven."" ""Maybe 13 or 14,"" says Rosser, ""when they know what to do and what not to do. But not two or three."" As the heartbreak spread its' way down Effie Street, it soon gave way to anger that two grown women could be so careless with two precious little lives. ""You know this happened more than once,"" says neighbor Shun Evans. ""It probably happened more than once and it finally caught up with them."" ""Something should happen to them,"" says Rosser, ""because there's no excuse. It's unacceptable."" ""I just think justice needs to be done,"" another neighbor tells myEyewitnessNews.com, ""because that was ridiculous."" Family members say Melanie Dunn was a single mother raising three boys. Investigators have not released the name of her three-year-old who died in the fire. The two-year-old is still hospitalized at Le Bonheur. And Dunn's five-year-old son was at school when the fire started."

THINK: Have you ever had to do something for someone that, even as you were doing it, you were honestly thinking, I shouldn%rsquot have to do this%mdashit%rsquos beneath me%mdashI%rsquom better than that. Well, consider Jesus, the eternal Son of God through whom all things were created, as He stooped to wash His followers%rsquo feet. That was only one of countless ways He served people and met their needs when He walked the earth. And He continues to meet your needs. Is it beneath you to follow Jesus example of servanthood? One of the best tests of how willing you are to be a servant is this: How do you respond when you%rsquore treated like one?
RESPOND: What was so extraordinary about Jesus demonstration of servanthood in washing His disciples%rsquo feet (cf. v. 3)? In what way was this act symbolic, and what example does it set for Jesus%rsquo followers? (See 13:5 note.) Why did Jesus tell Peter, %ldquoUnless I wash you, you have no part with me.? (See 13:8 note.) In what ways are Jesus%rsquo followers to %ldquowash one another%rsquos feet%rdquo? (See 13:14 note.) In what way can you show acceptance to those whom Jesus sends (v. 20)? Why do you think the other disciples never seemed to suspect or anticipate Judas%rsquo deception and betrayal? Why and how must Christ%rsquos followers be cautious regarding who they trust and associate with?
PRAY: Ask Jesus to help you follow His example of humility and servanthood in your interaction with others.
ACT: Throughout the day find several ways to serve others%mdashparticularly other Christians%mdashas a means of showing your love and appreciation for them. You could help a friend with homework during study hall, do something for a sibling at home, stop by church after school and help your pastor, or assist an elderly neighbor with a household chore. Deval Patrick at Boston Common - Part 2
[LESS INFO] 8 VIEWS | ADDED 14:56:11 10/16/06
Let?s talk about crime. And let?s try talking about it honestly. I am the only candidate in this race who has ever actually sent anyone to prison. I?m not a criminologist. I was a federal prosecutor. I have had to make those tough decisions about whom to charge and with what, to test that evidence and argue the sentence. I have had to comfort victims. I have represented victims. Thanks to the newspaper, you now know my family and I have been victims of crime ourselves. You can?t grow up in a place like the south side of Chicago without understanding the impact of crime and violence on survivors and a community. And yes, I have sometimes represented the unsavory defendant, too. And you better be glad someone does, because that?s what puts the justice in our system of justice. I?m proud of that. And if Kerry Healey had ever read the Constitution she is sworn to uphold, she?d know better than to slander those who do. So, let?s talk about crime. There are up to 700 fewer cops on the beat thanks to this administration?s fiscal policy. Guns are flooding over the line and gang violence is soaring. Kerry Healey touts the Sex Offender Register as a centerpiece of her public safety strategy, and then vetoes the funding to support it and fails even to appoint the staff. If I had Kerry Healey?s record on public safety, I would change the subject, too. The Healey campaign is up to tired old tricks ? change the subject, say anything and do anything to tear the other candidate down. Because she has not a single reason for why she should be governor that doesn?t turn on why she thinks I should not be governor. And that is another difference. We have not built anything on tearing anyone down. She wants to divide people. We want to bring people together. She wants partisan point-scoring. We want problem-solving and progress. Hers is a politics of fear. Ours is politics of hope. Politics reached a new low last week when my sister and her family got dragged needlessly into this campaign. It was wrong. And the sad fact is, it?s probably not the end. The truth is that the Healey campaign has created a political environment so toxic that things like this are going to happen. Here is a family that has repaired itself and lived as model citizens in Massachusetts for the last 13 years ? after a serious but distant tragedy. What Kerry Healey doesn?t understand is that leaders set the tone. Organizations take their lead from the person at the top. And Kerry Healey has set a tone of unprecedented nastiness and negativity in this campaign. So, no, Kerry Healey, I will not apologize for laying this outrage at your feet. That is where it belongs. What we will do over the next three weeks is insist that Kerry Healey stop trying to change the subject. We will insist that she deal with her record of inaction and neglect and why, based on that record, we should trust her to do better than in the next four years than she has in the last four years. And we will ask the people of Massachusetts to choose whether they want more emphasis on what divides us or more emphasis on what unites us and moves us all forward. So, let me worry about the incomings and negative attacks. We are strong politically and more important spiritually. My sister and brother-in-law are here, still standing tall, with Diane and me right beside them and their kids. We are as flawed and unfinished a family as any other. We have our moments of pride and of shame. But we know that forgiveness and grace is what makes a strong family, a stronger community, and progress possible. Thank you all for your support and your understanding. But let me worry about the attacks and the slanders. You do what you need to do. Talk to your family and friends, your neighbors, your coworkers about what?s at stake. Ask them to see this not as my campaign, but theirs. Make a contribution of time or money. Volunteer at a phone bank to identify voters who will support our cause this week. Canvass your neighborhood with material about the campaign. Join one of the get-out-the-vote efforts on Election Day. There is staff at the tables in the back and with clipboards around and about to show you how to get involved. We have 23 days left before the polls close on Election Day. It?s not a lot of time to change the course of our state. But that is what?s at stake. Meanwhile, I will not engage in the politics of fear. Because fear is poisonous. All through history it has been used to hold back progress and limit fairness. Only hope defeats fear. It always has. At a candidates forum last week, the moderator asked each of us to say something nice about the other candidates. Kerry Healey rather grudgingly said, ?Well, he can give a good speech.? She would know this not because she has ever attended a speech of mine but because she has them filmed by this fine fellow here. But her dismissive point, and I hear it from her staff, is that all I have to offer is words. Just words. ?We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.? Just words. ?We have nothing to fear but fear itself.? Just words. ?Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.? Just words. ?I have a dream.? Just words. Let me say it before you do: I am no Dr. King, no President Kennedy, no FDR, no Thomas Jefferson. But I do know that the right words, spoken from the heart with conviction, with a vision of a better place and a faith in the unseen, are a call to action. So when you hear my words, or speak your own to your neighbors, hear them and speak them as a call to action. Because the victory is not just what we did on primary night. It?s not just what we will do on November 7. It?s not even when ? with your help and God Almighty?s -- I take the oath of office next January. The victory comes when every man, woman and child in the Commonwealth has a reason to hope. Go out and work for that. God bless us all. Thank you.
