While New England Cries, Gronkowski Dances
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 17:51:36 02/07/12
Welcome to RideThePine.com
Living in New England, a bunch of my friends and family members were so distraught after the New England Patriots loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl 46 they were almost brought to tears. You know who wasn’t too upset. Rob Gronkowski . Ankle looks a 100% dude. Good thing you went all in on that hail mary...oh wait .
When I first wrote this episode, I didn’t want to come off as bitter that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl. I was even going to call Eli Manning elite. But the more I watch the highlights the more I can’t not be bitter. I can’t do it. Here is my only compliment for the Giants and Eli Manning. They don’t make mistakes, and when they do make mistakes they never pay for it. They never pay for it.
Lets look back through the timeline of New York Giants Super Bowl victories.
1990 NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers , they do the unthinkable and knock out Joe Montana . The Niners still dominated that game until an unbelievably rare Roger Craig fumble starts the Giants final drive which leads to a game winning field goal. The Super Bowl just a few days later, wide right by Scott Norwood. Giants are default Super Bowl Champions.
2007 NFC Championship game, Brett Favre makes one of the worst throws in football history throwing an interception in overtime that turns into a Giants field goal win. Super Bowl just a few days later, David Tyre’s helmet catch. Giants score touchdown, Default Super Bowl.
2012 NFC Championship game, two fumbled punt returns by 49ers Kyle Williams lead to Giants score and a trip to the Super Bowl. Now think back to all of the mistakes the Giants made in Super Bowl 46. Giants burn two timeouts early in the second half, because they can’t get their stuff together. Never comes back to hurt them. They fumble three times, but don’t lose possession on any. Wes Welker , who never drops a pass, dropped the game clincher.
Its like the whole Giants organization has a huge horseshoe up their ass. And to be clear, I’m not saying that the Patriots were the better team. Outside of a ten minute stretch when Tom Brady completed 16 straight passes, they played like poo.
The Giants were the better team but they never WIN Super Bowls, they just find ways to not lose Super Bowls and become champions by default.
And there is a difference.
The one thing you have to be impressed with is the class the Giants show in victory, right Brandon Jacobs .
Daddy, what’s decapitation?
Although Gisele Bundchen wasn’t much better after being taunted by Giants fans, yelling out that “my husband can’t fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.”
At least she was more upset than Gronk .

Sofia Vergara Tops "99 Most Desirable Women" List
PHOTOS: The Modern Family hottie leads the pack of AskMen.com's most desirable women of 2012. Plus you'll be surprised where Nicki Minaj, Rooney Mara, Miranda Kerr, Beyonce and Megan Fox came in on the list! Sofia Vergara is the most desirable woman of 2012. And while we cant argue with that...we do have some issues with AskMen.com's list this year- check it out. Pippa Middelton coming in at number 98. Yup and with a scene stealing booty like that- we don't get it either! Meanwhile- her conservative, married sister is ranked #11. Maybe it's the royal title? Speaking of booty- can someone explain how J Lo is all the way at 93!? Yet Kristen Stewart is number 27! Guess it's possible R Patz had a lot of free time to vote... And Lady Gaga somehow came in at number 18- while Megan Fox was 96! Seriously??? Now for the top 5: Can you feel that Super Bass? Nicki Minaj's wacky get ups seem to be doing it for most men..or is it her alter ego Roman? Finally someone who makes sense...Angel Miranda Kerr is number 4. Number 3 is an edgy pick for all you goth guys out there... Rooney Mara. Number two- Sports Illustrated's Rookie of 2011- Kate Upton. And we've already told you about the Modern number one pick. But the biggest WTF factor... Beyonce! Can you believe the new mamma is way up at number 39??? We had her pegged as number 4 for sure. So do you think this list is as mixed up as we do- or are they on point? Send us a tweet and let me know. Dutch Uncles - "Cadenza": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Dutch Uncles are one of the bands at the fore-front of Manchester's (UK) vibrant new music scene that whilst remaining respectful, tries to swerve the city's 'lad-rock' stereotype. Pulling unlikely influences from Steve Reich, XTC and Talking Heads, the band have an unconventional approach to songwriting with individuals scoring tracks much the same way a classical composer would, presenting songs and ideas to the rest of the band as sheet music. Combining jaw-dropping musicianship, whip-smart hooks and strangely danceable time signatures along with the flamboyant stage presence of lead singer Duncan Wallis this makes Dutch Uncles one of the most interesting pop dichotomies in a very long time. Signing to Memphis Industries, the band released their album 'Cadenza' in April 2011 to critical acclaim with much of the UK press and fans alike falling deeply in love with their unmistakable brand of what has been coined 'Math-pop'. With singles hitting the BBC 6Music playlists and regular plays across BBC Radio 1, 2011 has seen the band sell out shows across the UK along with major festival appearances and touring Europe with Wild Beasts. Prolific and inventive, the band will be returning to the studio just 7 months after the release of their debut to record the follow up album due in the Spring, 2012. Zenzile - "Simple Lesson": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
After a thirteen years old career, including: seven albums, five Maxi LP's and hundreds of live concerts throughout the world, you would think you knew all about ZENZILE. However, those who have followed this band since their beginnings in Angers, France, know well that: No one knows what will resemble a new album of Zenzile before it gets out. Instead of cloning their music precisely year after year, the quintet has always chosen to focus on their trade mark sound which is rich and various, thanks to a dazzling bass and whooping guitars. From the start, Zenzile is having fun mixing the same influences (post punk, Dub, folk, soft rock, soul jazz) with a savvy sense of measuring them all out, in order to produce a unique album every time. For Pawn Shop, the Angevins (from Angers) have deliberately let their POP spirit opened up, in a humble and formal way of course. Only two tracks are exclusively instrumental and are welcome signs of a previous life. All eight other tracks are carried by the voices of old partners: Jamika Ajalon et David K. Alderman (Warehouse), demonstrating some new and unexpected sides of their talent. This eighth studio album is less angular and more confident than the previous Living in Monochrome in which the band had let the guitar lead out. Today Zenzile seems to have found the right balance between staying simple while being demanding. Strings and organs are more present than ever to form melodies never dared before. The Pace Report: "The 2012 NEA Jazz Masters Cememony Highlights"
[LESS INFO] 2 VIEWS | ADDED 13:32:12 01/21/12
One of the most important jazz events took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center during the week of APAP last week. The 2012 National Endowment for the Arts held their 30th anniversary of the Jazz Masters Ceremony and Concert to a sold-out crowd. The event pays tribute to the architects of jazz music both living and deceased. More importantly, the NEA gives the current inductees as well as music programs and centers all over the country, grants and funding to continue the legacy of providing the community jazz programming and education to keep the music viable to public. Including this year’s inductees, the NEA has celebrated the work and lives of 128 jazz musicians, awarded more than 2,400 jazz grants, and given over $32 million dollars over the last 30 years. A very important feat for the music that very seldom gets the notoriety or praise like other American black music such as hip-hop, soul, and the blues. This year’s 2012 NEA Jazz Masters inductees include: Sheila Jordan, vocalist and educator; Von Freeman, tenor saxophonist and bandleader; Jack DeJohnette, drummer and pianist; Jimmy Owens, trumpeter, educator, and advocate; and Charlie Haden, bassist and bandleader. The festivities kicked off this year in regal fashion as Rocco Landesman, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts gave the opening comments about how rich the NEA’s tradition of celebrating and commemorating of America’s only art form. 2007 NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis and last year’s inductee Wynton Marsalis, artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, also gave opening comments of the historical implications of the 30th Anniversary of this year’s jazz masters ceremony. NEA Jazz Master Phil Woods along with alto saxophonist Grace Kelly played “Things To Come” composed by former NEA Jazz Master Dizzy Gillespie. The two were backed by the stellar Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra lead by Wynton Marsalis. Drummer Jack DeJohnette was inducted by his mentor and fellow NEA Jazz Master Muhal Richard Abrams. Abrams helped Jack as a teen study and play both the piano and drums while growing up in Chicago, Illinois. Through Abram’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, Jack developed a love and passion to play both classical and jazz music which helped him decide to play music professionally. In the mid-1960’s Jack decided to move to New York City where he played with the late Rashied Ali in the John Coltrane Quintet. He got his first taste of success when he joined saxophonist Charles Lloyd in his first quartet where he played with a young pianist named Keith Jarrett. During the late 1960’s into the 1970’s, Jack backed and recorded with the likes of Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Special Edition, New Directions, and his long association with the Keith Jarrett Trio with bassist Gary Peacock. Today, Jack is still very active and just released his latest disc “Sound Travels” on the the eOne Music label. NEA Jazz Master Benny Golson gave the induction speech of 2012 inductee Von Freeman. Freeman, who couldn’t make this year’s ceremony due to illness, was given some praise and adoration by his sons Chico and Mark Freeman, who gave his induction speech. Earle Lavon Freeman, Sr, was born in Chicago, Illinois where he’s been a musical icon for the last 70 years. Von comes from that elite class of Chicago tenor saxophonists like Gene Ammons, Clifford Jordan, and the late Johnny Griffin. During the 1950’s he and his brothers George and Bruz were the house band at the famed Pershing Hotel in Chicago. Von played with a slew of great local musicians that included Jimmy Witherspoon, Sun Ra, and Andrew Hill. In 1972 he recorded his debut recording “Doin’ It Right Now” produced by Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Currently Von plays weekly at the New Apartment Lounge and Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago. Bassist and bandleader Charlie Haden has given the world of music and jazz his unique blend of originality and heart. Since he made his way on the bandstand during the late 1950’s, Haden has been a trailblazer and relentless musician always striving to take music to the next level as well as always create new forms of roots music. From his days with saxophonist Ornette Coleman’s group, the quartet recorded the landmark recording for Atlantic Records, “The Shape of Jazz to Come.” But in 1969 Haden would record one of the most ambitious jazz recordings of the time. “Liberation Music Orchestra” was a record that fused the social themes of the times as well as free jazz that spoke volumes in the jazz community. The music was arranged and composed by Carla Bley and the orchestra has been recording sporadically over the last four decades. In addition to Haden’s orchestra, the three-time Grammy Award winner also fronts Quartet West. Charlie couldn’t attend the jazz masters ceremony due to his recovery from a recent surgery. His daughter Patra read his acceptance speech and acknowledged his many accomplishments on Charlie’s behalf. Vocalist, musical visionary, and NEA Jazz Master Jon Hendricks gave one of the most poignant speeches for his friend and contemporary, vocalist Sheila Jordan. Hendricks praised her accomplishments as a vocalist as well as keeping the vocal tradition alive by teaching the next generation of vocalists. Jordan, a Detroit native, comes from a great tradition and legacy of musicians that have made great and important strides in the world of jazz music. She developed her vocal style while singing in a local group named Skeeter, Mitch, and Jean. But it was her drive and determination that got her to move to New York City where she decided to throw herself into the thriving music scene. When she moved here she learned music theory and harmony by bassist Charles Mingus and pianist Lennie Tristano. Pianist George Russell discovered and recorded her on his “The Outer View” recording in 1962. Sheila made history by recording the first vocal record for Blue Note Records titled “Portrait of Sheila.” Throughout her career she’s recorded and performed with the Steve Kuhn Quartet and Harvie Swartz. Today she continues to teach jazz vocal workshops as well as perform all over the world. Trumpeter and educator Jimmy Owens is having a stellar 2012 so far. His latest IPO Recordings release “The Monk Project” celebrates and focuses on the compositions of pianist Thelonious Monk. In his 50 years in the business, the 68 year-old musician has been on the front lines for the betterment for working jazz musicians. As a board and active member of the Jazz Foundation of America, part of Jimmy’s lifework has been to help musicians seek funding for medical expenses, legal assistance, housing, and steady work. He founded the Musicians Emergency Fund due to the lack of support from the arts community and serve as a means to never negate the lives of many musicians that haven’t had the support or the able means to survive. Musicians that have benefited from this generous program were Odetta, Fats Domino, Clark Terry, Freddie Hubbard, Cecil Payne, and Sweet Georgia Brown. In addition to his dedication to the JFA, he’s also been a supporter and advocate for the Local 802 of the American Federation of Musicians here in New York City. It’s Jimmy’s drive and passion that he’s fought State Politicians to repeal the 8.25% admission tax for clubs and major venues and to take those funds and contribute them to the AFM’s pension fund. This and his dedication to education in jazz music is why he’s been honored as one of this year’s NEA Jazz Master Inductees. Jimmy, who hails from the Bronx, New York, was exposed to jazz music when he was kid when his parents played the music. He wanted to play the trumpet and one of his first teacher’s as well as mentor, Dr. Donald Byrd, got him to take the instrument and studying it seriously. Over the years he’d back and play with some of jazz music’s leading innovators and icons. Musicians like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillispie, and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. Today he still teaches as well as serves as a mentor to many of today’s current jazz musicians and composers. Some of highlight performances of the evening included two separate duo performances including NEA Jazz Masters bassist Ron Carter and flutist Huber Laws in their rendition of “Little Waltz”/”Memories of Minnie.” Also, Jazz Masters vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and pianist Kenny Barron’s rendition of Dave Brubeck’s “In Your Own Sweet Way.” The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis did an outstanding job in arranging tributes throughout the concert to NEA Jazz Master Horace Silver featuring Dave Liebman, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Candido Camero, and the new trumpet sensation Ambrose Akinmusire. The Benny Carter and Frank Foster tribute also turned a lot of heads featuring saxophonists Frank Wess and Benny Golson. I must add that the National Endowment for the Arts have dedicated to the works and mission to keep the jazz legacy alive via the grants they award every year. Also, they’ve been in tune with the jazz community via journalists, the musicians, and the many jazz associations to help educate and get the word out about America’s only original art-form. The NEA has more info for fans to reach out into their community to support the arts. For more info please visit them on the web at arts.gov.

Nevertheless, a thriving community of passionate and committed surfers has emerged from it's embryonic stages in the mid 60s, when a small group of Brighton locals first paddled out against a backdrop of warring mods and rockers.
Just as surf culture had made its way across the Altantic in the early 60s so too did 'sidewalk surfing' in the mid to late 70s. Naturally the local surf crews quickly developed a synergy with skateboarding as it helped to get them through the flat spells. At the heart of this scene was and still is Brighton legend Jock Paterson a top-surfer, champion skateboarder and now a leading figure in British Stand Up Paddle Boarding (www.tribalwave.org).

New Reports of Self-Immolation in Tibet
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me New reports of self-immolation by Tibetan protesters came out just a few days into the New Year. London-based Tibetan activist group Free Tibet announced on Friday that two people set themselves on fire. One died, the other's condition and whereabouts are unknown. [Dawa Tsering, President, Dalai Lama Religious Foundation]: "The only thing the Chinese Communist Party has is violent means and a lot of troops. It forces Tibetans into submission through employing military force. So the Tibetans have no other choice but to protest by setting themselves on fire." This puts the toll to 14 Tibetan people in the past year who have protested with self-immolation. At least six of them died. [Dawa Tsering, President, Dalai Lama Religious Foundation]: "If we take a look at the CCP's rule, Tibet is controlled in a very similar way as China during the Cultural Revolution. Most of the well-known monasteries are empty because the monks were forced to resume their secular life. They weren't allowed to stay there anymore." The reports of self-immolation could not be confirmed with Beijing authorities. China's Foreign Ministry has labeled the self-immolators as terrorists and blames the Dalai Lama. For his part, the Dalai Lama has not condemned or condoned the burnings. He accuses the Chinese regime of what amounts to quote "cultural genocide," which has lead to the self-immolations. Last-Place Bachmann: 'I Intend To Be America's Iron Lady'

Michelle Bachmann's appearance yesterday on This Week with Jake Tapper was one of her more cringe-inducing performances. Not because she isn't someone incapable of delivering lines and staying on message, but because the content of her message is so obviously boilerplate campaignspeak from someone who's so clearly sliding too far down, too fast to win. Instead, she's promising a "miracle:" >
TAPPER: My next guest sounds just as confident, but her path forward is a lot more murky. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann joins me from Des Moines.
Congresswoman, thanks for joining us, and happy new year.
BACHMANN: Happy new year to you. Great to be on with you this morning, Jake.
TAPPER: So the last time you and I spoke, you had just won the Iowa straw poll. The Des Moines Register poll had you tied for first place with Mitt Romney with 22 percent of the vote. Now that same poll has you with 7 percent of the vote. What happened to your campaign?
BACHMANN: Well, we've had a very good campaign. And I think what's happened is, a lot of candidates have come in, and Iowa voters and national voters have taken a look at all of the other candidates. But we have done I think what no other candidate has done, and that is, after the last debate, we've gone across all of Iowa, all 99 counties, and we've actually done heavy, heavy retail politics where we've gone into cafes and into living rooms of Iowans, and we've made a very strong connection with a lot of people.
And if you look at the polls, it's upwards of 40 percent to 50 percent of Iowans haven't made their decision yet. And I think the polls, what they're reflecting will be very different from what we're seeing on Tuesday night, because people make their decision, quite honestly, in the caucus room. Iowa is very different. People gather in living rooms. They gather in elementary schools and churches, and they make their decision on the spot with their neighbors. And we have done, like I said, what no other candidate has done the last two weeks. We've put over -- almost 7,000 miles on our bus, and we've literally gone from town to town to town meeting with people directly. And we saw thousands of people switch their vote just in the last couple of weeks, so we think there's going to be a very profound shift that people see on Tuesday night.
TAPPER: Well, one of the -- one of the dilemmas that you've had is that a lot of the voters that you are competing for, conservative voters, Christian evangelicals in some cases, are also being wooed by Rick Santorum and Rick Perry. And Santorum has momentum right now. He is at third place in the Des Moines Register poll. And if you look at the last two days, he's in second place. He has strong social conservative credentials. He's fluent in foreign affairs. He won statewide twice in a key swing state, Pennsylvania. So why should voters go for you and not him?
BACHMANN: Well, because I'm the strongest core conservative in this race. There is no comparison with all of the other candidates and my credentials. No other candidate has current national security experience in the race. I sit on the House Intelligence Committee. I am daily involved with the issue of national security. No other candidate is.
And as what we -- what we are seeing happening with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, that will be a formidable issue immediately with the next commander-in-chief. I'm ready. No other candidate is currently ready in that issue.
Gee, Michelle, I know it makes me feel better that you'll lie about Iran "obtaining" a nuke. It shows you'll say anything at all to win - always a great quality in a president. >
Also, I'm the only federal tax litigation attorney in this race. When it comes to dealing with the number-one issue that's on voters' minds, which is out-of-control spending, I have that credential in spades over any other candidate, because no other candidate was leading on this issue in the halls of Congress or in Washington or nationally. I'm the one that called for saying "no" to letting Barack Obama increase the national credit card limit.
Psst, Michelle honey? Try not to say things like that around sane people. It doesn't help. >
And when it comes to social issues, there's no one who can -- who can compare with my record. I'm a mother of five, a foster mother to 23 children that we've raised, and also I have an unassailable record on life, on marriage, on religious liberty. So when it comes to values and issues, there is no one who comes close to where I am on those issues.
But I think even more so, I'm the one that's been proven and tested in the fires of Washington, and that's why I think you saw people vote for me in the Iowa straw poll, but also it's what we have done on the ground. No other candidate has done more retail campaigning on the ground.
TAPPER: But...
BACHMANN: And I think we'll bear the fruit of that on Tuesday night.
TAPPER: But with all due respect, Congresswoman, this is the same pitch you've been making all summer and all fall and -- and up until today, and you're in last place, according to the polls. And -- and somebody that has similar credentials to you and a similar appeal to you, Rick Santorum, is showing huge momentum. Why you over him?
BACHMANN: Well, again, I think the polls take a few days to catch up. And -- and we have made that incredible deposit of going in every single county. We've drawn 300 people at a stop, 250 people at a stop, and I think a lot of that isn't yet reflected in the polls. And the main thing will be on Tuesday night.
We're looking forward. We're not looking in the rear-view mirror. And what we're seeing going forward, especially with the tremendous outpouring of young people that are coming out to work on our phone banks and to go lit dropping and door-to-door is nothing short of amazing. We're -- we're number-one in the category of enthusiasm. If you look at all of the candidates, which candidate has the most enthusiasm among their supporters, I'm that candidate. I'm number-one with the 18- to 29-year-old voters, which are highly motivated, and they're doing all of the work.
So I think that if you look at my past races, and polling data showed me actually losing and 8 points behind in previous races that I've had when I've run for Congress, and yet I -- I win by 8 and 13 points. So polls don't -- are -- sometimes belie the truth on the ground, and that's what we see. This isn't just about polling. This is about what we're seeing in reality, and I think Tuesday night people are going to see a miracle.
TAPPER: In the last week, your campaign has gotten involved in a big kerfuffle about one of your top supporters, your chairman in Iowa defecting and going to the Ron Paul campaign. I don't want to get into the weeds on that debate. There was a back-and-forth about whether or not he was paid off. He denied that you accused him of doing that. But this is not the first time you've made a charge like this. You've also said this about other supporters with Newt Gingrich in Georgia, with Rick Santorum.
Don't you risk -- making these charges, doesn't that risk voters seeing you as making a final gasp of desperation?
BACHMANN: Oh, for Heaven's sake. Of course not. What this shows is the tremendous momentum that we have out of the last debate. From person after person, they said that I won the last debate in Sioux City, Iowa. And the reason why is because, when Ron Paul made his very dangerous statements, which is he was just fine with Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, or with Newt Gingrich taking $1.6 million from Freddie Mac and he was unable to defend that, I -- I took it to them.
And what people saw during the last debate is that I have the ability, of all of the candidates on the stage, I have the best ability to take it to Barack Obama in the debate and hold him accountable. We had tremendous momentum coming out of the last debate, and we saw it in county after county in our 99-county tour, where people were just appalled by Ron Paul's position. They thought it was dangerous.
That's why we saw literally thousands of people switching their decision on the spot, and that's what you saw, was this crush of momentum. And so we saw some different actions coming out of the Ron Paul campaign. And I think that people will be very surprised at the results on Tuesday night, because I think people will see a lot of defections away from Ron Paul because they see -- especially with the aggressive nature of the actions on the part of Iran in the Straits of Hormuz, people are seeing how important it is that we have a commander-in-chief who is conversant, prepared, knowledgeable, and has good judgment on foreign affairs. And of all of the candidates in the race, I'm best suited for that -- that portion of being commander-in- chief.
TAPPER: Congresswoman, we only have a little bit of time left, so last question. In the interests of candor and being based in reality, positing that you feel that you're going to have a very good night on Tuesday and that all the polls are wrong and you're going to do well, but assuming that the polls are right, isn't that, practically speaking, the end of your campaign if you come in last on Tuesday?
BACHMANN: Well, we've bought tickets to head off to South Carolina. And we are looking forward to the debates. January is a very full month. We're here for the -- for the long -- for the long race. This is a 50-state race. And we intend to participate not only in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, but to go all the way, because I intend to be the Republican nominee and defeat Barack Obama in 2012, because America needs a candidate that will be in the legacy of a Ronald Reagan and of a Margaret Thatcher. That's what I intend to do, is to be America's iron lady.
TAPPER: All right. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, good luck on Tuesday. And hope you have a wonderful 2012.
BACHMANN: Thank you. Same to you and your listeners.
