More clashes as Bahrain police accused of blocking access to funeral
www.euronews.com Anti-government demonstrators have again clashed with police in Bahrain. The latest trouble happened in a Shi'ite village near the capital Manama. The opposition accused security forces of blocking routes leading to the funeral of a protester killed during disturbances on Friday. Police fired tear gas, while demonstrators threw stones and petrol bombs. Earlier on Saturday, officials said police found and defused a bomb on a causeway linking the Gulf island to Saudi Arabia. The series of clashes has followed commemorations by activists of the second anniversary of a pro-democracy revolt. The unrest threatens to undermine new talks between the Sunni-dominated government and the mostly Shi'ite Muslim opposition over its demands for more democracy. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald kills three in Australia
www.euronews.com Three people have died in Queensland as the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Oswald continue to wreak havoc in eastern Australia. More than one metre of rain has fallen in the state in a twenty-four hour period. People living in Sydney have been warned to expect torrential downpours as the ex-tropical cyclone moves slowly down the New South Wales coast. This latest extreme weather system follows the cyclone that began in the Gulf of Carpentaria near northern Australia 10 days ago. Homes are being evacuated across the Queensland. The state capital, Brisbane, has been hit hard: around 200000 houses are without electricity and many roads are closed. In the Queensland city of Bundaberg, 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, 1200 properties have been flooded and helicopters have been used to rescue 18 people from their rooftops. In the small beach town of Mooloolaba, Queensland, weather conditions have churned sea water producing foam on the land. Algeria crisis: 'footage of aftermath' of hostage crisis
Footage of charred vehicles and ammunition broadcast on Algerian television, purports to show the aftermath of the hostage crisis at the In Amenas gas facility. The pictures, which were broadcast on Canal Algerie footage, were apparently filmed on Sunday. Burnt-out vehicles, riddled with bullet holes, can be seen lying in the grounds of what appears to be the remote In Amenas gas plant in Saharan Algeria. A large number of weapons and piles of ammunition - including grenades and bullets - which are said to have been found at the remote desert refinery, have been laid out on tables along with military fatigues and bags. Three British nationals are now known to have died in the four-day siege, which finally ended on Saturday, and three more are believed to be dead. A UK resident is also thought to have died. The first of the British victims to be officially named was 46-year-old Paul Morgan, reported to be a former Foreign Legion soldier and Gulf War veteran who was in charge of security at the In Amenas plant. Friends of Syria officially recognise opposition coalition
www.euronews.com Official recognition for Syria's opposition coalition has grown, with acknowledgement coming from the US-founded international Friends of Syria group, who are meeting in Marrakech, Morocco. Less than 24 hours before, came recognition from the US itself, which confirmed it now considers the opposition coalition to be the legitimate representative of the Syrian people. Moscow is criticising the move by Washington, accusing the US of favouring an opposition victory achieved through violent means. "As the coalition has been recognised as the only legitimate representative, it seems that the United States decided to place all bets on the armed victory of this same national coalition," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The Marrakech endorsement is the latest in a series of diplomatic victories for the Syrian opposition coalition. It has already been recognised by the UK, France, Turkey and a number of Gulf states. SUBSCRIBE for more exclusives from your favorite people: full.sc BUY "THE FOUR HOUR CHEF": fourhourchef.com Follow Tim on Twitter: @tferriss New York Times best-selling author Tim Ferriss has previously written about making money more efficiently (in "The Four Hour Workweek"), working out and getting in shape effectively ("The Four Hour Body") and now he's tackling the mastery of food in his latest opus, "The Four Hour Chef." (He's described the series as a trilogy, culminating in "Four Hour Chef.") Now Ferriss stops by What's Trending to talk about the book and how he learns everything from dancing to cooking to languages in record time. He also talks about being BANNED from Barnes & Noble stores due to his deal with Amazon Publishing, and how he has responded. (SPOILER: Part of the answer includes a deal with BitTorrent!) Iranian fighter jets fired on US drone in Gulf, says Pentagon
Pentagon spokesman George Little says two Iranian fighter jets fired on an unarmed US drone in international airspace over the Gulf on November 1. The Pentagon has warned that the United States stood ready to protect its forces in the region. The incident occurred on Nov 1, less than a week before the presidential election, but the Pentagon kept it quiet. "They intercepted the aircraft and fired multiple rounds," said George Little, a spokesman. The incident threatens to worsen relations between Washington and Tehran amid tensions over Iran's nuclear programme. President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta were both advised early on about the unprecedented incident on Nov 1. Iran was later warned through diplomatic channels the US would keep conducting surveillance flights in the region and would protect its military assets, Mr Little said. David Cameron defends arms deals with Gulf states
Despite UAE and Saudi Arabia's human rights records, Prime Minister David Cameron argues that all countries have a "right to self defence" as he travels to Dubai as part of a three-day trip to promote fighter jets sales to the Middle East. David Cameron is visiting the United Arab Emirates today to push for Typhoon sales as part of a "concerted effort to establish a long--term strategic defence partnership" with the UAE, according to Downing Street sources. He will journey to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday before travelling to Oman in the Middle East, in a trip "to help Britain compete and thrive in the global race". Mr Cameron will hold talks with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the UAE's prime minister about how best to deepen the two countries' military ties. Romney makes Syria gaffe during debate
Republican candidate Mitt Romney has been mocked for suggesting Syria was 'Iran's route to the sea' during his final presidential debate with Barack Obama when the pair faced off over foreign policy. Iran does not share a border with Syria and has two coastlines of its own - one borders the Caspian Sea in the north, the other follows the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea in the south.
