The dish is an Indonesian-style rice cake typically eaten during Lunar New Year celebrations. The details from our Jakarta correspondent... It took 20 government staff three days, 550 pounds of rice and 220 pounds of banana leaves to make this record-breaking Lontong. Coming in at 495 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter, the Lontong is the dish of honor at the Cap Go Meh Festival, marking the last day of the Chinese New Year. [J. Ngadri, Indonesian World Record Museum]: "There is something special today. This is a present from the Jakarta city government for people of Chinese ethnicity. This is a reflection of togetherness among Indonesian citizens." Chinese New Year is widely celebrated in Indonesia, where ethnic Chinese make up three percent of the country's population. Indonesian Chinese have only been allowed to celebrate the Lunar New Year since 2000, when the government overturned a 1967 decree banning the ethnic Chinese from celebrating their new year in public. The Governor of Jakarta, Fauzi Bowo, took part in the event and made the honorary first cut of the world's longest Lontong. This event was created in response to the call for solidarity put out by the citizens of Oakland who have been participating in these marches for several weeks now. No longer can we ignore this call. We did not create a facebook event for this march because we recognize that facebook alienates the participants in these demonstrations by giving law enforcement and city officials a list of participants and organizers that end up becoming targets. FTP1 Austin was the first of many FTP marches that will be planned in the coming weeks. We gather in the spirit of open revolt against the racist police state that we live in, and understand that there is no excuse for Austin to sit back and remain passive while our comrades around the world face violent state repression. With every ticket, pass and overage slot completely sold out the world´s best snowboarders were in the highest of spirits despite record-breaking cold weather at the Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck-Tirol 2012. In the Superfinal Peetu Piiroinen prevailed with Backside 1260 Mute Grab (91.70 points) over Seppe Smits (91.13) and Niklas Mattsson (89.53), who came from the event qualification rounds to finish on the podium in third place. With his second place tonight Seppe Smits tallied up enough series points to become the TTR World Tour Big Air Champion for 2012. As always Air & Style’s perfectly shaped kicker delivered incredible riding from the start of the night in packed stadium. Cisco Live UK Day 5: Bloodhound Super Sonic Car This is Cisco Live UK: Day 5 So we've had an absolute blast over the last 5 days here in London at Cisco Live. We saw thousands of visitors, customers, and industry thought-leaders. One of the most unique things we saw was the Bloodhound Super Sonic Car (SSC). This car is part of a project to break the land speed record by traveling at a target speed of 1050 miles per hour! The project's mission is to "To confront and overcome the impossible using science, technology, engineering and mathematics." That's quite a mission statement! The Project Director is Sir Richard Noble, who also took part in a keynote address at Cisco Live UK. In the video below, Peter Granger speaks to Jonathon Cooke, who was displaying the actual SSC and its jet engine on the event floor. Jonathon is studying Mechanical Engineering at Bath University and is one of the 'Ambassadors' for the project (part of the 'Ambassador's Program'). Cisco has provided equipment (Networking and Video Equipment) to help develop the Bloodhound SSC vehicle and its technology center. This is a great example of how Cisco is helping in the manufacturing industry with R%D and enabling Innovation and product development cycles in manufacturing.
