Bioware finally states how they plan to deal with the Mass Effect 3 ending brouhaha, and another classic RPG is getting the Kickstarter treatment. This time it's the old-school Cyberpunk RPG Shadowrun.

Story 1:
Some fans of Mass Effect 3 have been a bit miffed over the ending of the game, and have been very vocal about wanting a new ending.
Well it looks like Bioware’s response probably won’t silence the critics.
EA announced that an “extended cut” DLC would be released this summer that will add additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the ending of the game.
They claim that this DLC pack should add "further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3" and "deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."
This appears to be Bioware’s final word on this, as they have stated that they will not create a new ending for the game. Bioware co-founder Ray Muzyka went on to say that "With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc."
Hopefully this will give players a sense of closure for the game, but I think no matter what they do, the fanboys won’t be happy.
The Extended Cut will arrive on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC for free sometime this summer.

Story 2:
We’ve brought you a few stories over the last month or so about old-school developers heading to Kickstarter to help revive classic games, and today you can add Shadowrun to the list.
The classic pen and paper RPG is no stranger to video game adaptations. It has seen releases on the SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and the ill fated 360/PC FPS version that came out in 2007.
Original game creator Jordan Weisman is now in the process of creating a new 2D turn based role playing game based on the franchise, and is heading to Kickstarter to fund it. The game will be developed by Weisman’s studio Harebrained Schemes, and they are looking to raise around $400,000 to fund the project.
Weisman stated on the Kickstarter page that "The game we want to make is very humble by modern blockbuster game standards but it is still way beyond the ability of a small start-up to fund by itself.”
We’ve stated before that this is a trend we glad to see, and a long list of developers seem to be bypassing the major publishers to go directly to the people: Tim Schafer, Gabriel Knight designer Jane Jensen, Fallout and Wasteland executive producer Brian Fargo, and Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe just to name a few.
Here’s hoping that the major publishers start taking notice, so that maybe they’ll want to put out more than just the next Call of Duty game. I mean really, how many times can you play the same game?

Peering up above his reading glasses from the Ba-Bl section of his recently-hyperinflated Encyclopedia Britannica, Dubious Sage Paul Miller wonders what can possibly come next. Not so shockingly, it's the future: one where all citizens exist in a fat green cloud, joyfully passing bits, bytes, kilobytes, and pagesix.com links directly to their Fave Five Friends upon tiny Napster- and KaZaA-branded puffs of cumulonimbus. Jarringly, the sphere momentarily flashes in a spinning beach ball animation, then goes dark. And Nilay seems to have left his charging cradle down south.
