E-40 Talks Too Short, Independent Hustle, Rich vs. Wealthy, New Album
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 02:16:36 06/03/11
http://www.hardknock.tv Hard Knock Tv's Nick Huff Barili sat down with the ambassador of the Bay: E-40. The interview starts out with E-40 speaking on longevity and giving advice to all the MC Fly By Nights to remain HUNGRY and HUMBLE! After a snippet of 40water performing Yay Area Nick ask 40 if he thinks the Bay Area including Too-Short, Hieroglyphics, Living Legends and himself get their due props from laying down the blueprint for moving units independently. You are gonna have to peep the video for the answer to that! From there E-40 mentions that he has a collaboration album coming with Too Short coming out this year titled The History Channel. Growing up listening to 40 one of the lines that stood out was "Sometimes it's cool to floss But don't buy an eighty-five thousand dollar car Before you buy a house" from Rapper's Ball. 40 talks about the difference between being rich and wealthy and that from a young age his mentors told him to get himself a piece of the earth! Some soil, even if it was just a fixer upper. (Yup cause I'm tired of being a renter all my life!). 40 drops some more knowledge saying "The biggest chances you can take is not taking chances at all, so you have to stay rolling the dice." (He means that metaphorically not literally lol didn't you watch the TLC Waterfalls video!) Before we let 40 go we had to ask him about one of the stand out tracks from his new album Revenue Retrievin' Overtime Shift called Fuck Em, where he talks about Set Trippin Ass DJ's, Radio Programmers, Janky Promoters, etc. Among other things he said that he is a story teller and that its not just about lyrics and punch lines and if yall don't know its not cause he is rapping too fast, it is cause yall squares a listening to slow! Interview contains snippets from "Bitch", "Yay Area", Candy, Sprinkle Me and Fuck Em. Make sure to subscribe to www.youtube.com/hardknocktv to get our latest videos.‬

COMMUNITY BIOGRAPHIES
JOEL MCHALE
Jeff Winger
Joel McHale stars as Jeff Winger, a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked, in the new NBC comedy series "Community."
McHale is poised to make 2009 a breakout year. In addition to his starring role in "Community," he recently wrapped production on the Steven Soderbergh directed, Warner Independent dark, comedic thriller "The Informant" opposite Matt Damon. In the film, he plays an FBI agent working with agri-business insider Mark Whitacre (Damon) to stop a price-fixing scam. The film, based on Kurt Eichenwald’s 2000 bestseller, "The Informant: A True Story," will hit theatres in October 2009.
McHale is best known as the star of "The Soup," a weekly entertainment show that satirizes pop culture and current events. He also serves as a writer and producer on the show. McHale’s quick wit and sharp comedic timing have made "The Soup" a pop culture phenomenon and led to the success of "The Soup Presents" specials. McHale recently began touring the country to sold-out audiences with his stand-up act.
Born in Rome, Italy and raised in Seattle, Washington, McHale became a cast member on Comedy Central’s "Almost Live," a show from a group of Seattle-based performers that featured a mixture of skit comedy and stand-up. Following his run on "Almost Live," McHale completed the Actor’s Training Master Program at The University of Washington. After moving to L.A., McHale landed roles on "Will & Grace," "CSI: Miami" and, most recently, "Pushing Daisies." He also jumped onto the big screen with roles in "Spider-Man 2" and "Lords of Dogtown."
McHale currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife and his two sons.
CHEVY CHASE
Pierce
Chevy Chase stars as Pierce, a man whose life experience has brought him infinite wisdom, in the new NBC comedy series "Community."
One of the most honored and beloved actors of his generation, Chase first came to national prominence as a writer and performer with the original cast of NBC’s "Saturday Night Live," for which he won two Emmy Awards. Soon after he had endeared himself to television audiences, Hollywood beckoned and Chase made his feature film debut in the comedy-thriller "Foul Play" with Goldie Hawn. His many memorable films include: "Caddy Shack," "Seems Like Old Times," "National Lampoon’s Vacation," "Fletch," "National Lampoon’s European Vacation," "Spies Like Us," "The Three Amigos," "Funny Farm," "Caddyshack I," "Fletch Lives," "National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation," "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," "Cops and Robbersons," "Man of the House," "Vegas Vacation," " "Snow Day," "Ellie Parker," and last year’s "Funny Money."
In 1992, Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the nation’s oldest undergraduate dramatic group, honored Chase as its "Man of the Year."
Chase began his career in comedy as a writer and performer for "Channel One," a local New York underground revue that satirized television. "Channel One" later became the basis for the film "The Groove Tube." He has written for Lily Tomlin and the Smothers Brothers, and earned a Writers Guild of America Award for writing "Alan King’s Energy Crisis, Rising Prices and Assorted Vices" TV special. In addition, he won an Emmy Award for co-writing "The Paul Simon Special."
In 2007, Chase received critical acclaim for his guest-starring role on NBC’s award-winning series "Law and Order." He followed that return to the small screen with a two-episode guest-appearance on the drama series "Brothers and Sisters." Most recently, Chase guest starred on the NBC series "Chuck" and has completed production on the feature film "Stay Cool," with Winona Ryder and Sean Astin, which is scheduled for release this year.
Chase resides in New York with his wife, Jayni, and their three daughters. He moved to the Northeast over a decade ago to be continually accessible to the needs of his family, including three daughters just entering adolescence, feeling that their needs would require more than just a mom and a working actor. He has been simply a "dad" as the kids have grown through changing seasons, hormones, and schools.
Now that they are 20, 24, and 26 years old, he has decided to once again get back to the work he loves: making movies and television.
GILLIAN JACOBS
Britta
Gillian Jacobs stars as Britta the 28-year-old dropout with something to prove in NBC’s new comedy series "Community."
Jacobs was most recently seen in Richard Kelly's film "The Box," starring Cameron Diaz and Frank Langella. Other film credits include "Choke," starring Sam Rockwell and Angelica Houston (Sundance Film Festival - Special Jury Prize Best Ensemble Acting) and the lead in Damian Harris’s "Gardens of the Night," which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. Jacobs can also be seen in the upcoming films "Coach" directed by Will Frears, "Watching TV With the Red Chinese," "NoNames" and "Helena From the Wedding."
On the small screen, she has appeared in "Fringe," "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" and "Royal Pains." Jacobs will also be seen in the upcoming drama series "The Good Wife" and had a recurring role in "The Book of Daniel."
Her theater credits include "The Little Flower of East Orange" at the Public Theater, which was directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. She also starred in "A Feminine Ending" off-Broadway at Playwright’s Horizons with Marsha Mason.
Jacobs is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the Juilliard School's Drama Division.
KEN JEONG
Señor Chang
Ken Jeong stars as Señor Chang, a slightly unhinged Spanish professor, in the new NBC comedy series "Community."
Ken Jeong, known as the "scene stealer" is quickly establishing himself as the go-to character actor for today’s hit comedies. In the summer of 2009, Jeong appeared as the Asian-mobster "Mr. Chow" in the sleeper-hit comedy "The Hangover," also starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis. The film stayed at the top of the box office two weekends in a row, and to date has grossed $205 million at the domestic box office.
Since his feature-film debut as the doctor in "Knocked Up" in 2007, Jeong has gone on to a number of memorable roles in a series of successful comedies. Directed, written and produced by Judd Apatow, Jeong’s first film grossed $219 million at the worldwide box office. In 2008 Jeong starred in his first major role as the villain, King Argotron, in "Role Models," opposite Paul Rudd, Seann William Scott and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. The film grossed over $90 million worldwide. The same year, Jeong had supporting roles in two other major comedies, "Pineapple Express and Step Brothers."
Jeong originally started on a different career path. He earned his undergraduate degree at Duke University and went on to attain his medical degree at the University of North Carolina. Jeong completed his Internal Medicine residence in New Orleans, all the while developing his comedy. In 1995, Jeong won the Big Easy Laff Off. The competition, which was judged by former NBC President Brandon Tartikoff and Improv founder Bud Friedman, turned out to be his big break as Tartikoff and Friedman urged Jeong to head to Los Angeles.
Once in Los Angeles, Jeong began performing regularly at the Improv and Laugh Factory, and was seen on a number of television shows including "The Office," "Entourage," and "MADtv." It wasn’t until his pivotal role as "Dr. Kuni" in "Knocked Up," though, that Jeong solidified himself as a feature-film comedian. In 2006 Jeong and fellow comedian Mike O’Connell also left a mark on YouTube as "Million Dollar Strong," a spoof rap duo. Since the video’s posting in 2006, the video has garnered over 1 million views and Jeong and O’Connell have been tapped by MTV Films to write and star in the film version.
Jeong will next be seen in the Will Ferrell produced film, "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" opposite Jeremy Piven. He will also be reunited with Bradley Cooper in the film "All About Steve," also starring Sandra Bullock. His additional upcoming films include the comedies, "Couples Retreat," "Despicable Me," and "The Zookeeper."

KEN JEONG

Yeah. I was feeling no love from the girls in gym class; In the locker room, I'm getting wedgies up my ass. So we built a ship one afternoon and my buddy and left for the Moon. We landed hard on an alien shore- Gonna boldly go where no man's gone before- We met some alien babes! They were hot and lean, We were the first earth dudes they'd ever seen. Walked up to the queen and said with a smirk, "His name's Chewie. I'm Captain Kirk." Then we started to party with the whole platoon, and now I'm in love with a chick from the Moon. So he asked her to the junior prom as they strolled across the dunes (strolled across the moon dunes) He wants to take her home to meet his mom, his girlfriend from the Moon. The party got crashed by some evil droids, They were pumped up on Ass-Steroids. One grabbed my princess by the hair and said "I'm taking this one to my robot lair." "Excuse me sir, but she's spoken for!" "I'm gonna knock her up with my robot spore." "First we do battle with video games. I'll school your ass- yeah, what's my name?" For hours I pwned that robot thug. We played Galaga, Frogger, and even DigDug. Cmon man, let's go again. Best out of five. Can we switch controllers? Now I'm drinking the nectar of the gods Yikes- What are those strange pseudopods? I think I'm having an asthma attack! I went for my inhaler, and never went back. I flew back home and I wrote this tune, and now I'm missing my girl from the Moon. Why the hell did he leave her? Now he feels like such a goon (feeling like a moon goon!) I guess he got sorta skeeved by his girlfriend from the Moon. I'm so sorry that I broke your hearts when I ran from your alien lady parts Now I'm back at school getting hung on a shelf They're grabbing my hand, saying "Don't hit yourself." I'm slurping down life from a bitter spoon, and missing my girlfriend from the Moon. ...from the moon... Graknia, if you can hear me out there, I'm sorry. I just freaked out. It's not you, it's me. (It's not you it's him) This pain I'm feeling is worse than I felt after seeing the Phantom Menace. (The Phantom Menace really sucked... except for Darth Maul) I just was intimidated by your three vaginas. (Larry, Curly and Moe) I would fight all the Orcs in Mordor just to have you back. In space, no one can hear you cry. #4 - Richard Hawley
[LESS INFO] 10 VIEWS | ADDED 14:53:36 10/04/06
Today, there is no shortage of serious young men in groups, sketching out how they imagine the extremes and depths of emotion might be. Time was, though, that only those who had earned the right to sing of love, loss and striving would share such confidences - real singers, of the calibre of Scott Walker, Roy Orbison, or even Nancy's old dad, The Chairman himself. Richard Hawley understands this. The man who could well be Britain's finest songwriter insists his mind is full only with "confused thoughts and Guinness". But when he sings, he does so in a voice that's deep and low, and does not lie. His merciful, wise songs tell of the heart's truths as seen in the dark, revealed by moonlight. Remember, this is the hopeless romantic who, on returning home from a lengthy tour of America was reduced to tears by the sight of a bottle of sauce - Sheffield delicacy Henderson's Relish - on his kitchen table. Coles Corner, Richard's first album for Mute, was released on 5th September 2005. While his previous long-players, Late Night Final (2001) and Lowedges (2003), scaled remarkable heights of elegance and emotional candour, this collection is surely his best to date. Within, orchestral splendour sits alongside earthy rock and roll in songs that are by turns intimate and soaring. So go with him as he leads you down to the ocean, or reveals the secret interior of a hotel room, or shows you the seductive open road. Take the string-led, alone-in-a-crowd title track, where Hawley's narrator walks the city at night and hopes that "Maybe there's someone waiting for me/ With a smile and a flower in her hair." A smouldering take on the same ambivalence that drives Petula Clark's Downtown, it's a telling foretaste of what else is coming down the wires. Born Under A Bad Sign, by contrast, is a drifting, country confessional for glockenspiel and guitar, which slow dances around autobiography and universal experience: "What are you like?/ You've had a right life/ Taken a long ride/ But oh, at what cost?""Every time I felt myself pushing it orchestrally, I thought of the Sun studio, one-mic, one guitar thing," explains Hawley of this juxtaposition of town and country. "It's all roots music to me, even with a string section, and I wanted to prove that side by side, both work. I think there's a flow to the record - I'm expressing how I feel, truthfully. And when people tell the truth, no matter how ugly it is, it can't help but be a beautiful thing." Recording took place at Sheffield's Yellowarch Studio, with Hawley and Colin Elliott at the producers' desk. Remarkably, several songs on the album came to Hawley fully formed and were nailed in just one take. "Last Orders was written in a cab on the way to the studio," he confirms, still slightly disbelieving. "I had a minging hangover, but I had this melody in my head, so I walked in and said 'Mic the piano up and tap me on the shoulder when it's time to record'. We got it in one take. With Wading Through The Water, we were all wearing overalls 'cos we were plastering the studio walls. All I did to change was to wash the plaster dust off my hands... we did that in one take too, and then went downstairs again to get back to work." In a career that began playing r 'n' b in German beer halls in 1981, Hawley has never been a stranger to toil. His early musical life involved playing guitar for lost indie heroes Treebound Story. He commenced his solo career with a self-titled mini-album in 2001. Recent activities have included producing songs for Nancy Sinatra, who invited him on her UK and European tour in 2005, gigging with his rockabilly band The Feral Cats, and getting over a vicious attack of pleurisy. In between came the realisation that the music he had always loved - whether Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Little Walter, or any number of past giants - would be his salvation. "I've been around but I'm not jaded," he says. "I've been through what I've been through, and I've come out of it, quite alright, you know. I don't remember the hang over, I just remember the party. 'Cos there's hope in a beautiful record. Just recently I've come out of the other side of a couple of years of complete shit. People very near me, several of them, got sick. It seemed like every time the phone went someone else had cancer. But when I started recording this record, gradually, one by one, I started getting phone calls saying they were all right. Now I feel quite optimistic, that I can almost believe that I might actually sell some records, and my oddball music might be heard." As is often the case, blame the parents for just how oddball he is. The son of a Gene Vincent-obsessed Sheffield steel worker, Hawley grew up close to rock and roll - his mum once sang with the Everley Brothers on the back steps of Sheffield City hall, and he later learned guitar via his father. Indeed, his dad Dave once played with Eddie Cochran, and recounts a tale of the doomed rocker standing in a shower at 3am holding an umbrella, "so water wouldn't go in his whiskey". Perhaps this upbringing is why it's so hard to find a comparative voice in the here and now. "There's a lot of factors involved in music today that aren't music," he muses. "But once all the crap is gone, the good stuff's still there. If the core of what you're about is tangible and worth it, and it goes down to your fucking boots, you've got to stick with it because it will stick with you. If the world was just like a fucking Coca Cola advert all the time, all the individual expressions would be denied. So it's good I'm in the position I'm in now. 'Cos I'm not going to be denied anymore." Now we leave him to play a series of high-profile shows with R.E.M., and to spend his rare free hours searching eBay for the few Santo and Johnny albums he has yet to track down. There's just one last thing to clear up: What is Cole's Corner?" It's where Cole Brothers, an old department store in Sheffield, used to stand," says Hawley. "There's a blue plaque there now. It was a convenient place near a lot of tram and bus stops, and for well over 100 years Sheffield's couples, lovers, friends, mums and dads or whatever, would meet. I've always found it quite a romantic notion - how many kids in Sheffield are knocking about as a result of a meeting at Cole's Corner?''I'll meet you at Cole's Corner...' People still say it, even though it hasn't existed for years. It only exists, really, in the ether." Cole's Corner was demolished in 1969. In Richard Hawley's dreams it's still there. You can visit, if you want. Just close your eyes, and listen.
