Syrian Protesters Hurl Rocks at Chinese Embassy in Libya
For more news and videos visit ➡ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ http Add us on Facebook ➡ on.fb.me Syrians and Libyans demonstrate outside the Chinese embassy in Tripoli after Beijing vetoed a UN Security Council resolution. The resolution was backing a plan to urge the Syrian President to give up power. Syrian and Libyan demonstrators hurled rocks, eggs and tomatoes at the Chinese embassy in Tripoli on Monday. This came after Russia and China vetoed a UN Security Council resolution backing an Arab plan urging Syria's President Bashar al-Assad to give up power. Armed men, who said they were from the Libyan government's Supreme Security Committee, guarded the embassy from about 50 protesters who waved Syrian opposition flags and had managed to break windows and spray graffiti on the walls. [Maher, Protester]: "China stands beside the gangsters of Assad against the Syrian people. The Syrian people have been killed and massacred -- where is the UN? Where are the international human rights organizations? Syrians are killed and bombed by China's war jets and weapons. China today supports the Assad regime to quell the peaceful Syrian protesters." China defended its rejection of the UN draft resolution, with state media saying Western armed intervention in Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq exposed the risks of forced regime change. From London - Smoking causes rapid mental decline in men, according to a report published in the Archives of General Psychiatry. Researchers studied over 7,000 men and women for 25 years, finding that men who smoked had more rapid cognitive decline than women and non-smokers, and that those who smoked during the entire followup period demonstrated greater decline in all cognitive tests.
From Boston - 3 cancer drugs may raise risk of fatal side effects, although this risk is still very low, according to a report published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology . Results of a meta-analysis covering over 4600 cancer patients found that treatment with either sorafenib, sunitinib, or pazopanib resulted in 1.5% of patients having fatal complications, compared with 0.7% of patients given standard therapy or placebo.
And finally, from Baltimore - A behavioural prevention model can reduce bullying and peer rejection in schools, according to a report published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine . Studying over 12,000 children, researchers found that the School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports model as an alternative to zero-tolerance policies greatly reduced teacher-reported bullying and peer-rejection.

FDR, The New Deal, and The Expansion of Federal Power with Authors Burton and Anita Folsom
During his first presidential press conference, Barack Obama defended federal economic intervention, stating "there are several who have suggested that FDR was wrong to intervene back in the New Deal. They are fighting battles that I thought were resolved a pretty long time ago." "We were just amazed to hear him say that," says historian Anita Folsom. While this "idea is taught in colleges all over the country, we have to come to the realization that these big government ideas do not lead to prosperity." In his 2008 book, New Deal or Raw Deal, historian Burton Folsom took on the idea that the New Deal "worked." Now he's collaborated on a new book with his wife Anita, FDR Goes to War, which tackles the idea that Roosevelt was a great wartime leader. During the war, the book argues, the Roosevelt Administration stomped on civil liberties, fixed prices throughout the economy, ballooned the national debt, and brought the top income tax rate up to 94%. The Folsoms see Roosevelt's big government approach as instrumental in shaping the modern world. From ObamaCare to the Community Reinvestment Act, they draw a direct line from FDR's actions to the worst public policies of today, along with the general view that "government programs are the solution to economic and political problems." Bert and Anita Folsom sat down with Reason.tv's Nick Gillespie to discuss their new book and the enduring myths of FDR's presidency. About 9:30 minutes. Shot by Meredith Bragg, Jim Epstein and ...
