Lost And Nameless Orchestra - "The Red Haired Boy": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
"Foot stomping, heart racing, exciting music..." As this fan attests, there's something about dueling fiddles, vigorous guitar playing, and an air-tight rhythm section that compels your body to move. Tastefully pairing a wide dynamic range and an intimate connection with the listeners, the Austin-based fiddle-driven folk rock quartet, Lost & Nameless Orchestra gets you out of your chair and onto the dance floor. Founding members Chris E. Peterson (fiddle / lap steel / mandolin / bass) and Patrick Conway (acoustic & electric guitars / vocals) met in St. Louis in 1993 and formed an instant bond playing fiddle tunes and Patrick's original songs. Their musical travels took them throughout the USA and Europe until the band settled in Austin, TX in 2006. The band has since grown to include 15-year old musical prodigy Kimberly Zielnicki (fiddle / bass / vocals / ukulele) and Nathan Quiring (keyboards / accordion). All four members are highly skilled and well trained musicians with a sincere love for making music together. The band's unique chemistry on stage creates an intimate atmosphere in the room and draws listeners into the music. As the intensity builds, it is not uncommon to catch band members dancing on chairs and fueling the fire of excitement in the room. After a standing residency at Flipnotics, a calendar full of shows all over Texas and Arkansas, and their first tour under their belt, Lost & Nameless Orchestra is currently in the studio recording their debut full ... Solander - "Flight": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Solander is a Swedish inventive trio making pop music with a folky touch and a playful approach. With the starting point in the Malm%ouml underground scene, Solander emerged with its debut album "Since We Are Pigeons" in the fall of 2009 and toured extensively throughout the next year. In the winter of 2011 they finally had time to enter the studio again to record their long awaited sophomore album. The songs we hear on "Passing Mt. Satu" differ a lot from each other and the impact of a lot of different influences is very clear. But everything is tightly bound together by the characteristic voice and picking guitar of Fredrik Karlsson, the personal and innovative playing of cellist Anja Linna and the driven rhythm section handled by Mikael Persson, former drummer of Scraps Of Tape. In addition to this there are also some unconventional banjo playing, prepared metallophones, haunting organs, distorted hand-claps, pianos, music-boxes and lots of other goodies spread out over the album. New Cassettes - "Silent Guns": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
NEW CASSETTES is a five-piece band from Northampton, England who delivers a fresh blast of modern rock that is artful, edgy and infectious. Evoking a fascinating blend of classic indie rock, pop and new wave, yet thoroughly 21st Century. Spiky guitars go head to head with propulsive rhythms and hook-filled choruses and the band is fast-gaining critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. The quintet have been leaving audiences swooning since 2005, from supporting the Strokes to playing Glastonbury, Latitude and Wireless Festivals, releasing three singles and their debut album The Art Of... in the UK and Japan. They're now well seasoned and ready for the frontlines as they deliver their second full-length album, \"Winterhead\" on March 6, 2012 via MTV's Hype Music. \"Winterhead\" was mixed by with Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and sound engineer Geoff Sanoff (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, School of Seven Bells). New Cassettes released the \"Silent Guns Deluxe EP\" in November 2011 and premiered the video and download of the title track through the good folks at PureVolume. "New Cassettes have perfected the art of indie-rock cool with the awesomely infectious 'Silent Guns',\" commends Alyssa Coluccio of PureVolume. T Bird and the Breaks - "Episode 2": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
T Bird and the Breaks are one of those gangs of people who could have easily banded together to steal hubcaps or hustle you out of your last dollar in a game of street craps. Lucky for all involved, they chose to make music. The core of this band of musical miscreants consists of Tim Crane on vocals and piano and an unstoppable rhythm section consisting of longtime partner in crime Sammy Patlove on drums and Cody Furr on bass. Johnny "Too Bad" Allison and Sasha Ortiz, on guitar and vocals, add the icing on the red velvet cake. With a sound that pulls from the origins of hip hop, the alleyways of the Crescent City, the grease and grime of an old-school soul review, and all seven of the deadly sins, the Breaks have developed into a locomotive; slowly pumping across America, leaving crowds drenched with sweat and walking funny the next morning. By playing show after sold-out show, T Bird and the Breaks have amassed a die-hard following of fans from Texas to the Bird's home state of Massachusetts to San Francisco and back again. Currently, the band is hoarding miles of tape %mdash song after song with a new sound %mdash waiting for the moment when the people are ready to hear the sickness that plagues T Bird and the Breaks: chunk music. Widows Exiled From Society
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 12:46:36 01/05/12
In Kochila district, Odisha, widows are ostracized by their communities. Sarita Biswal, a young community leader from Kochila district in Odisha was attending a family wedding in her village when she noticed a group of women gathered in the quietest corner of the marriage hall. In the midst of the colour and rhythm, these women were plainly dressed and almost never stepped out of the corner to participate in the festivities. They stood like mute witnesses to the rituals. When Sarita implored them to join the celebrations, the women replied that were too afraid to step out of the invisible boundaries. “We’re widows,” they said. “We’re not allowed to.” When Sarita returned this incident kept playing in her mind. She asked her parents and her neighbours about the treatment meted out to these women and the answers she received ranged from the superstitious like branding the women an ‘ill omen’ to just plain apathetic and ill-informed like terming it ‘tradition.’ It was then that Sarita decided to initiate the campaign to change this situation. She would begin by making a video on the miserable lives led by the widows in her village and also document the insensitivity with which the rest of community treated them. As she was making her video Sarita discovered many shocking incidents. No shop or bus would allow a widow as their first customer. They believe that it brings them bad luck. In some cases, people refused to look them directly in the eye. They are ostracized by their own families. They are not allowed to participate in any religious celebration, neither are they allowed to enter religious spaces. Remarriage is taboo and the only livelihood available to them is that of a labourer. Existence is always hand to mouth. It is like they were serving a punishment. Sarita realized that these women were among the marginalized and oppressed groups in contemporary Indian society. Says Sarita,” It is society that brings bad luck to widows not the other way around.” There are over 40 million widows in India which is approximately 10% of all Indian women. Most are living life in the most miserable of conditions. The social reformation movements in India began with emphasis on the condition ofwidows but Sarita witnessed that very little had changed on the ground. “It was very difficult to make the video,” she says. “The women were refusing to speak to me. It was only gradually and with persistence that I managed to convince them to speak out. Speaking out is the first step towards change. The struggle is yet to come but we’re all together on this one.”

Woodsongs 637: Woody Pines and Colin O'Brien
[LESS INFO] 34 VIEWS | ADDED 13:35:15 11/16/11
WOODY PINES transports you to the Mississippi Delta when AM radio was king with his energetic brand of Roots Music, Ragtime, Country Blues, and Viper Jazz. The band; comprised of Woody on guitar, banjo, harmonica and lead vocals, Zack Pozebanchuk on upright bass, Nathan Taylor on drums, and Darin Gentry on fiddle; epitomizes the Dixieland sound and embraces a simpler time. If Pines' elegantly-disheveled fedora and vintage resonator guitar don't set the mood (both are strongly suggestive of the musician's mix of ragtime, country blues and lightning-speed folk), the backing band does the trick. Crackerjack musicianship goes a long way toward a band's greatness, but showmanship seals the deal. Pines, on stage, is an old soul and natural performer, storied and steeped in the best of Americana. As honky tonk hero, Billy Joe Shaver puts it, "Woody Pines is the best band I ever heard in my life I swear.... I'm their biggest fan now!" COLIN O'BRIEN is a prolific nationally touring performer, recording artist and master multi-musician known for his John Hartford Tribute show. Colin plays the daylights out of the banjo, fiddle and guitar, and his feet stay mighty busy as well dancing rhythms on his magic hardwood "Clogginator." Colin didn't start out as a folkie. He studied classical guitar at the Cornish College of the Arts, before moving to Milwaukee in 1993 to study guitar at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He's on the faculty there now teaching Banjo, Guitar and Fiddle, has been since 2000. Colin has published two banjo instructional books and a DVD and most recently he's released an all instrumental guitar record, "Inside These Guitars."

Defending Kim Kardashian’s Wedding

Welcome to ICBW.tv
If you are shocked that Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are getting a divorce after 72 days, you’re an idiot. In fact, I’m surprised that it lasted that long. Their conversations must have been riveting.
"Do you want me to shake my big ass again?"
"OK"
Can I defend Kim Kardashian for a second. I know the world is mad at her. She made big time money from the E Television special, selling the wedding photos, and any other crazy money-making scheme. But Mario Lopez 's marriage to Ali Landry lasted just 18 days and I can’t get that guy off my television set.
I don’t know what their first names are, I don’t want to know what their names are but the Duggar family announced that they are expecting their 20th child. Can they just stop. Its not cool to have twenty kids. I know you are against birth control but at least try the freaking rhythm method.
Speaking of babies, Justin Bieber is being accused of fathering a child/being statutory rapped by a 21 year-old girl.
On the heels of the Conrad Murray guilty conviction, Michael Jackson’s death bed is being auctioned off. Kids clothing that was scrunched up in the sheets will be auctioned off separately.

Melodies and words are in Faccini’s bones and his finely crafted songs resonate with traces of his ancestry. If his songs were maps they would stretch from the English moors to the Saharan dunes via the parched plains of the Mediterrannean before spanning the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Mississippi Delta.
With the opening track from the new album 'My Wilderness', the narrator ‘calls out to ... the darkness’ seeking answers to unknown mysteries, as the rhythm builds to a Southern Italian Pizzica. Piers Faccini uses this beat, traditionally associated with healing and trance, to throw out his lament, weaving in his own lyrics while cellist and long-term friend and accomplice Vincent Segal replies with his bow.
With the track « The Beggar & The Thief » the creative net widens further. As the beguiling dialogue unfolds between the two characters, the song becomes an anthem to the stateless travellers of the world as Ibrahim Maalouf’s unmistakable trumpet slides between the voices conjuring up the spirits of early Rai or Balkan dances.
Whilst songs such as « Dreamer » « Three Times Betrayed » or « The Beggar & The Thief » undeniably evoke the dryness of Mediterranean landscapes. Others, on the map of this album, such as « A New Morning, » begin like an ancient work song before flowing into an ocean of choir and strings, transporting us to other climes and to one of the cornerstones of Piers Faccini’s writing : the legacy of Skip James, Son House and other pioneer troubadours of the great American songbook.
At the time of his first album in 2004, ‘Leave No Trace,’ Faccini was living more from his painting than writing and singing songs, and yet the slow-burn impact of his music around the world since then has allowed him to switch his energies full time to music. After years of travelling, and countless gigs with stop-overs in the studios of LA or Paris, collaborating with producers such as JP Plunier or Renaud Letang, this fourth album, « My Wilderness » is a return to this home-spun craft – an album which has been entirely produced and conceived by the singer-songwriter himself.
Faccini recorded this album at his home in the foothills of Southern France, nestled in the Mediterrannean rocks and flora. For Piers, recording albums means surrounding himself with old friends, people he can talk music with, true accomplices, fellow souls who share a common vision. For the last year or two, the friends he has invited to play and record music with him, at home, are the bassist Jules Bikoko, the drummer Simone Prattico and the violinist Rodrigo D’Erasmo. If music is a journey then with a band such as this it’s easy to travel.
