A hilarious cutup of Bush humming and hawing his way through speeches. A poignant commentary on Bush's intelligence. The piece then segues into an interview with an American soldier about the increasing use of drugs and suicide rate amongst soldiers in Iraq. All the while punctuated with Bush's public displays of stupidity. Great track.

Ask Dr. Veronica - To Paula Deen: Man Vs. Food
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 20:11:13 02/08/12
As a doctor, I am always telling people to eat fruits and vegetables (these end up replacing sugar for the most part), move to sea salt, get excited about eating quality whole grains and turn to good fats like avocados, nuts or olive oil. I'm human though and of course there are times when I want to have some sugar. That's when making the choice to have raw (turbinado) sugar or stevia makes sense. Sea salt naturally helps your release excess water -- who needs water retention -- AND it has higher mineral content. Quinoa is a food that is so undervalued yet it has amazing properties. Not only does it taste great, but it is high in protein so when you have pasta made from quinoa, you end up loading up on the healthiest of proteins while scaling back on all the white, processed junk from typical white flour or rice pasta. Good fats like those that come from coconut or olive oil, nuts and avocados actually taste better than lard, which should only be used as a skin moisturizer and not as a food, mind you. Here's what I have to say to Paula: We all love tasty food. In fact, I enjoy comfort food whenever I end up having it -- probably once a year around Thanksgiving. But take it from someone that has a lot of color in her life; make the simple switch to natural products. You need to get out of that southern mentality at least when it comes to the ingredients in your delicious southern foods -- and start infusing a LOT more color into them. I feel bad that Paula is sitting on top of worldwide scrutiny after signing on with a drug company as their spokesperson almost days after revealing to the world she has diabetes. But how much of this is really her fault? What could be worse than having to share your personal plight with a totally preventable disease, than to have an international pharmaceutical company pounce all over you while only considering what's in it for them? Shame on the selfish company Novo Nordisk (the maker of the diabetes drug Victoza) for taking advantage of Paula at a time like this! -- http://www.AskDrVeronica.com/ http://www.blogtalkradio.com/WellnessForTheRealWorld http://www.facebook.com/DrVeronicaAnderson http://www.facebook.com/DrVeronicaEyeMD http://www.twitter.com/DrVeronicaEyeMD http://www.linkedin.com/in/DrVeronicaAnderson http://www.youtube.com/user/WeLLness4REALWorld http://www.DrVeronica.com/blog

Who Created Cura Romana
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 02:24:07 02/07/12
Alfred Theodore William Simeons, MD, was among the most gifted medical researchers of the twentieth century. Born in London in 1900, he graduated summa cum laude in medicine from Heidelberg University. After postgraduate studies in Germany and Switzerland, he took up an appointment at a large hospital in Dresden where he began to study tropical diseases. He joined the School of Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, became fascinated by the subject, then spent two years in Africa. There he invented a method for identifying the various strains of malarial parasites in the blood which became known as Simeons' Stain. It is still used today for the same purpose. Simeons also discovered the injectable antimalarial drug atebrin, which is still used to treat the disease. Simeons' contributions to medicine were so significant that the Queen decorated him with the Red Cross Order of Merit for his achievements. Not until January 1954 did Simeons tell the medical world about his unique method for the treatment of obesity in a paper published in the Lancet. His report triggered a tsunami of controversy, misinformation and confusion which, even now -- more than half a century on -- continues to rage. Meanwhile more than 200,000 people worldwide have experienced the gifts of Cura Romana and come to sing its praises.

Social Media More Addictive Than Drugs
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 05:36:09 02/06/12
A study conducted by Chicago University found that Facebook and Twitter are harder to resist than alcohol and tobacco. Participants were checked in on 7 times a day and 75% of the responses indicated an urge to use social media. As the day wore on, willpower to avoid the temptation was even worse.
In other news, deleting a photo on Facebook doesn’t mean that it goes away. A flaw in how the site stores photos leaves them available to anyone with a direct link to the file. Facebook is working on a new system that will permanently delete the photos after a month and a half.
And finally, the number of smartphones shipped worldwide eclipsed personal computers. By the end of 2011, vendors shipped 488 million smartphones, outnumbering PCs and tablets combined. 93 million of those devices were iPhones.

Meet The Press Panel Continues 'Obama Hates Religious Liberty' Meme Over Contraception
[LESS INFO] 56 VIEWS | ADDED 01:00:06 02/06/12
In Catholic masses all over this country, priests are injecting politics into their sermons , condemning the Obama administration for the new Health and Human Services regulations that religious institutions must offer contraceptive benefits to its members . It doesn't require members to violate their personal beliefs by taking advantage of the benefit, mind you. But this new regulation acknowledges that there are some who may work in a Catholic hospital who may not have the same stricture against contraceptives and want it to be part of their health services. But that's perhaps a too nuanced view: >
The Catholic Church reacted strongly Friday to a White House defense of new rules that will force many religious employers to provide contraception to their workers in government-mandated health insurance plans.
"The White House information about this is a combination of misleading and wrong," said Anthony Picarello, general counsel of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He said the bishops would "pursue every legal mandate available to them to bring an end to this mandate. That means legislation, litigation and public advocacy. All options are on the table."
The new regulations were announced last month by the Department of Health and Human Services as part of an effort to guarantee that women receive free "preventive" healthcare services, including cervical cancer screening, breast pumps — and contraception. They require employers to include those services in their employee health insurance plans by August.
Religious institutions can qualify for an exemption if the services violate their beliefs, but not if they employ large numbers of people who do not share those beliefs. [..]
In a blog post Wednesday, the White House responded that the new rules won't force anyone to buy contraceptives. Cecilia Muñoz, director of the Domestic Policy Council, wrote: "Over half of Americans already live in the 28 states that require insurance companies [to] cover contraception." These include such large states as California and New York, she said.
The Catholic bishops shot back Friday, saying it was misleading to say that no one would be forced to "buy" contraceptives, because everyone who contributes to an insurance plan will be paying a portion of the subsidy that provides for free contraception.
Alex Castellanos and David Brooks are only too happy to pick up the bishops' mantle and further the meme that this is a solid shot across the bow of religious liberty in Obama's war on religion. How nice of them to legitimize Newt Gingrich that way. Rachel Maddow and Xavier Becerra try gamely to point out that refusing contraceptive benefits in the twenty first century is beyond ridiculous, but of course, host David Gregory gives Alex Castellanos the last word.
Out of curiosity, are the bishops equally against ED drugs like Viagra? Why do I hear no denouncing of working against "God's plan" there? The reality is that despite the church's teachings, as much as 98 percent of Catholics admit to using contraception . Would that the church elders focus their efforts on dealing honestly with issues that are in line with the priorities of their members: poverty and social justice , labor unions , climate change and dealing honestly and ethically with their own sex scandals rather than plunge into politicking within homilies on Bizarro World accusations of violations of religious freedom.
