Amy Bezunartea - "Amy's Spring Tune": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Amy Bezunartea is a Brooklyn, New York based singer and songwriter whose debut album Restaurants & Bars will be released on Kiam Records on November 2, 2010. Hailing from the American Southwest, Bezunartea grew up in a musical family with a mother who sang and played guitar and a father who sang and played the harmonica. \"My family had Indian jewelry stores and souvenir shops throughout Arizona and New Mexico and we spent a lot of time in the car traveling from store to store,\" Amy commented. \"We listened to 8 tracks - Patsy Cline, Slim Whitman, Loretta Lynn, Sons of the Pioneers - and that\'s how I started singing.\" When she received a guitar for her 13th birthday - the same guitar she writes on today - it was these songs she taught herself to play. It was with this sense of tradition and history that Bezunartea began to write her own songs. In the years that followed, Amy began a series of jobs waiting tables - first in Tucson, then in San Francisco and finally in NYC. Restaurant work became a constant in Bezunartea\'s life as well as in the songs that she was quietly writing. In 2005, Amy met Clint Asay and joined the band Clint Michigan - Amy contributes vocals, guitar, harmonica and banjo. Their debut record Hawthorne to Hennepin was released on Kiam Records in early 2009. The duo garnered rave reviews including a Band of the Week nod from Paste Magazine and a placement for the album\'s title track on Grey\'s Anatomy. Of her involvement in Clint Michigan, Amy ... Everything You Need Is Inside Of You
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 02:30:36 02/07/12
This is an extract from our Cura Romana Journey Program. An important part of reconnecting with the core and coming to live your life from your essential being, is a willingness to leave behind the notion that what you need or long for can only come from outside yourself. In truth, everything we need for our own freedom and fulfillment we already have inside. It simply needs to be discovered, called forth, and set free. As Edward in Canada, who shed 32.7 pounds on the program, discovered: "For the first time ever, I feel that the next phase of my life will be really exciting and full of growth and more new experiences. Now I know I have the power to make it that way." When I personally came to terms with just how profound the emotional and spiritual changes are for many men and women on Cura Romana, I started gathering together tools, techniques and information which I and others I have worked with find helpful in reconnecting with our core. I began to show them to those I am mentoring as a way of supporting spiritual processes which they told me had been initiated and/or intensified by the Cura Romana Journey. Here in the Cura Romana Sanctuary, I will be sharing some of these simple processes with you. They are interesting, consciousness expanding and fun. Try them out. Use those that appeal to you and forget the rest. You might be surprised what a powerful role practicing some of them regularly can play in rebuilding and strengthening that bridge between your inner and your outer life.

Beijing's First PM2.5 Pollution Readings Draws Skepticism
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Bowing to public pressure, the Chinese regime began publishing the results of PM2.5 pollution readings%mdashonly the numbers don't match those released by the US Embassy in Beijing. The discrepancy is drawing suspicion from the public that officials may be manipulating the data. On an average day in Beijing, the smog is a thick whitish yellow blanket. Millions of people living there breathe a veritable soup of air pollutants. PM2.5 air pollutants%mdashor those that measure less than two and a half microns%mdashare considered the most dangerous to human health, because they penetrate deep into lung tissue. After considerable public pressure, Beijing officials began publishing PM2.5 readings, but residents are skeptical of the numbers. One reason is that the readings don't match-up with the numbers released by the US Embassy in Beijing. The Embassy has long published its own PM2.5 data and has become the go-to source for Internet savvy Beijingers wanting to know how dangerous the air is to breathe on a given day. On Monday morning, Beijing municipal readings were at 30 micrograms per cubic meter%mdashor a "moderate" level of pollution. Four miles away at the US Embassy, the reading was 66 micrograms per cubic meter%mdashconsidered "unhealthy" by US standards. There could be good reasons for the discrepancies in the numbers, but experts closely watching the situation suspect municipal ... From: NTDTV Views: 27 2 ratings Time: 01:52 More in News & Politics

Child Charged with Murder: Indian Teacher has $10B Bank Balance
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 11:05:46 01/19/12
Welcome to CRWE Newswire News Update, I'm Christina Collins. A 12-year-old boy died Monday, an hour after he was stabbed by his 10-year-old neighbor in El Cajon, San Diego. The victim slept at the boy's home for two nights before he was attacked at the end of the holiday weekend. It appears the 10-year-old had began taking a new medication just three weeks ago. A detention hearing was scheduled in juvenile court. California requires that children be at least 14 to be charged as adults and State law allows children to be detained until they turn 25 if tried and convicted as juveniles. With a monthly salary of around $700, an Indian high school teacher, was taken back when his bank account showed a balance of almost $10 billion. Parijat Saha, in West Bengal state, said he had checked his State Bank of India account online to confirm reception of a $200 interest payment. Instead the account showed a balance of 496 billion rupees, which is close to $10 billion US dollars. He immediately called a friend working at the bank to advised of what was a major accounting error. The State Bank of India said it was not clear how the amount came to be registered in Saha's account, but are trying to discover what went wrong. "When I think of how to write about Jonti's music, I don't feel like writing at all. I feel like drawing a picture, with watercolors and maybe crayon - colorful, abstract, youthfully curious and open to interpretation. Spending countless hours studying records like they were books, processing each song, this became Jonti's music school, testing his theories on a 4-track recorder. Jonti has now recorded with Mark Ronson, Santigold, Sean Lennon and the Dap-Kings, as well as producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile). For Jonti's debut album, coming this fall on Stones Throw, he went the opposite route, doing everything himself, start to finish. The album is Twiligig, is slated for October release. Twirligig draws inspiration from many of Jonti's favorite artists: Madlib, Stereolab, Free Design and The Beach Boys. But Twirligig's main inspiration came from cartoonist/ filmmaker Norman Mclaren. Red Tails...
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 07:33:31 01/16/12
[ VIDEO ] In the mid-1990s, HBO aired a TV movie named The Tuskegee Airmen . Of course the movie starred Cuba Gooding who is also starring in the coming film also about the "Tuskegee Airmen" entitled Red Tails .
The Tuskegee Airmen is the popular name of a group of WW2 US Army Air Force (precedes the US Air Force) pilots that are well known for their exploits escorting American bombers in the skies of Europe. It started with the 99th Pursuit Squadron and the pilots of that squadron began their training at Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). That unit actually still exist in the US Air Force as the 99th Flying Training Squadron .
Eventually the Tuskegee Airmen would be assigned to the 332d Fighter Group. As members of this Army Air Force unit, the tail of the planes would be painted crimson, and thus they acquired another nickname alluded to in the coming coming new film "red tails" or "red-tailed angels".
I read a story recently about how this film got to be made. It was produced by George Lucas who largely put up his own funds because Hollywood was unwilling to produce this project. I'm sure Hollywood was skittish about a project advertised as an action-flick with a mostly Black cast because they were unsure about whether or not money could be made. Even he tried to look at the big picture :
> But still, Lucas claims he foot the bill himself for the budget, because that’s how important getting the film out there was to him. Lucas also pointed out that he wanted to make the film for teenage boys (young, black teenage boys in particular), to show them real heroes and real role models (outside of the Jay-Zs and Michael Jordans as he said). However, while talking to the folks over at USA Today, he said the pressure of having it do well at the box office has him worried about what impact Red Tail‘s success could have on the success of future films with all black casts.
“I realize that by accident I’ve now put the black film community at risk,” Lucas said. “I’m saying, if this doesn’t work, there’s a good chance you’ll stay where you are for quite a while. It’ll be harder for you guys to break out of that (lower-budget) mold. But if I can break through with this movie, then hopefully there will be someone else out there saying let’s make a prequel and sequel, and soon you have more Tyler Perrys out there.” It wasn't just about the money but to help advance Black filmmakers. Perhaps even change the range of films they will be able to make. It also about giving the young boys the real heros and the real role models. Very laudable goals because the men the boys look up to will need some form of diversity. Who says you must only look up to entertainers and be entertainers?
You know I saw somewhere, some attribute his interest in doing this to the fact that he's dating a Black woman . This may be a true reason although certainly it's good thing what he seeks to do in this endeavor. It's still very important to be able to bring to the public the story of WW2's Tuskegee Airmen!
BTW George Lucas if you don't know owns Lucasfilm . His company has produced both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. They've made lots of money over the years so don't assume Red Tails will be a slouch on the silver screen!

I Was Just In The Neighborhood. I stayed at BC a few hours longer than the rest of our group not to take in the scenery, but to catch up with my old friend Dawa. Jeff was the first to head down and Steve and John followed a bit later leaving just me, Karma and Passang from our workshop group. While technically I?m still a client here in BC, I?ve finally managed to get the staff to understand that I?m ?one of them? and don?t need to be catered to in the same way as one of the participants. They?ve been doing an outstanding job ensuring the success of the group but when it?s just me up here they can turn off and just hang out. In fact, I encourage that kind of behavior! With Karma and Passang kicking back and enjoying the fine weather, the rest of the camp staff relaxed as well and I couldn?t have been happier. I know I?ve always got the best staff in the world to help me out but the reason I come back year after year is because these guys become lifelong friends of mine. Camp cook Dawa is a perfect example of that. Dawa and I became close during the 2003 expedition I was on with Ben Clark. Now, my job on that expedition was to document as much of it as possible but I was not a climber. So, Ben would disappear for weeks at a time further up on the mountain leaving me in Dawa?s care. That was my first experience in the Himalayas and I was extremely uncomfortable with being waited on hand and foot by the staff every day. Dawa was the one who listened to my incessant complaints about wanting to wash my own dishes and explained to me why it was important to just be OK with it. The staff has an incredible amount of pride in what they do and always strive to do the best job they can. I need to let them do what they do and if I am uncomfortable, just let them know how much I value the work they are doing for my by telling them how much I appreciate it. I took his advice and we became friends. That friendship was a crucial component of that 2003 experience for me and I?m not sure if I would have enjoyed the expedition if I hadn?t had Dawa. Let me ad to that sentiment: The Rest of Everest may not have existed if it weren?t for Dawa making that first trip such an amazing experience. I owe a lot to him and his generosity, kindness, patience and hard work. I thought I would be able to tell him all of that in person in 2007 when I returned to Everest with my friend Scott Jacobs but, alas, it was not to be. Mountain Tribes was scheduled to have a team on the North Side and Dawa was going to be the cook but 2 weeks before the climbing season began the permit was switched to the South Side. When Scott and I walked into BC, Dawa was already encamped on the other side of the mountain. I was crushed because I had come so far from home and was so looking forward to spending some time with Dawa. This year everything worked out perfectly and I was finally able to tell Dawa ?thanks? and to reminisce about that 2003 expedition now 6 years in the past. My, how time flies! I was also able to finally show him my favorite portions of the film myself and that was great fun. Another case of art imitating life imitating art. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how that 2003 expedition was going to change my life. Thanks Dawa. Total Running Time: 34:04

Plastic Caps Sculpture in Time-lapse
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 00:46:00 01/13/12
Beautiful time-lapse imagery of the Plastic Caps Sculpture featured at the Green City Festival in Austin. Always on the lookout for new inspiration, George Sabra has recently become aware of the artistic possibilities inherent in the world of plastic. "Every second thousands of bottles of water and soda are being tossed," he explains. Thus, when a neighbor brought him a collection of plastic bottle caps and explained that the caps are not always accepted for recycling, Sabra was intrigued and challenged. "Every time I walked past those colorful caps, I realized that they had such beautiful artistic potential, but the question was 'for what?'" The answer came one morning over a cup of coffee. He explains "There is this café where I go and sit outside beside beautiful water, trees, and native plants. While there, I happened to notice a plant called a bulrush reaching up toward the sky. It had such clean lines, and tapering ends - blowing in the wind. In a moment I realized that this wild plant was my inspiration for my bottle caps. In an instant I could clearly see how to put the natural world and the man made world together." With the help of more than 800 volunteers who collected and others student volunteer cleaned and sort thousands and thousands of bottle caps, and lids Sabra's vision began to take shape. The result is a beautiful and colorful 21 foot high sculpture that made its debut at the 2011 "Green City Festival" in Austin, Texas. Says Sabra, "When we unveiled it, the crowd that had gathered seemed pulled toward it, as though it were a magnet. Then, as they walked around it and looked upward watching it blowing in the wind, they gasped when they realized it was a 'plant.' They got it. It was a very emotional moment!"
