Dry The River - "Weights & Measures": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Since forming in spring 2009, Dry The River have toured extensively in the UK and Europe promoting their "careful mix of emotive, lilting folk and upbeat, impassioned rock'... NME. Based in a shared two-bedroom house in Stratford, east London, the five came together via circuitous geographical and musical routes. Musically the back-history is no less varied, with the band citing an esoteric list of influences - Leonard Cohen, At The Drive-In, Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie, Neutral Milk Hotel , Bruce Springsteen and Devendra Banhart. Their first single was issued by Transgressive Records in March 2011 and after significant BBC radio support plus their inaugural SXSW appearances, their subsequent run of UK festivals in 2011 included Glastonbury, Great Escape, Itunes Festival, Latitude, Lovebox, Hop Farm, Lounge on The Farm, Belladrum, Wilderness, Summer Sundae, Green Man, Reading and Leeds, End of the Road and Bestival etc and also many of the key festivals across europe. Followed by a powerful Bowery Ballroom CMJ appearance in October alongside Alabama Shakes. "They carried the audience, showing the scatter and wear of day three of CMJ, to the top of the room with the biggest choruses you'll hear in 2011" 32ft/Second Blog They've recorded their album in the Bridgeport, CT with Peter Katis (Interpol, J%oacutensi, The National) which is due for release via RCA in early 2012 in the UK and US. The Wilderness of Manitoba - "Orono Park": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Reviewing a recent show in London, a UK music blog wrote that the Wilderness of Manitoba displayed "a natural, unique sound that proves the creativity of this modern folk outfit and the places they are leading the genre". In 2011, the Canadian band toured the US four times, Canada once and performed in Germany and the UK. In the process, they became a more dynamic live band with their trademark four part harmonies and various multi-instrumentalists. To understand The Wilderness of Manitoba, you have to go to a music-filled house in Toronto, Canada where most of the band lived. The studio in the basement is where they recorded the majority of their current album, "When You Left The Fire", and the "barn" in the backyard is where they played their first live shows. The intimacy of the house and the band\'s emphasis on a vocals first approach has helped shape their timeless sound. From: sxsw Views: 1340 25 ratings Time: 03:27 More in Entertainment

Matthew Dear - "Headcage": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He's had remixes commissioned by The xx, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service and The Chemical Brothers; he's made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical's Body Language. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none %mdash and he's just hitting his stride. Matthew Dear's 2003 full-length Ghostly debut, "Leave Luck to Heaven", is a suite of sparse, wickedly funky house laced with Dear's deep, distinctive vocals, and includes the much-loved single "Dog Days" (voted one of Pitchfork's Top 100 Songs of the decade). The record was met with rapturous acclaim from both the dance-music establishment and the critical press, including a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Dear's 2007 follow-up, "Asa Breed", is a considerable departure from Heaven's dancefloor excursions, incorporating the polyrhythms of afrobeat, the irreverent pop sensibilities of Brian Eno, and the austere beauty of krautrock. More four-stars reviews followed (Q and Mojo magazines), and Dear subsequently began touring with a live three-piece band, Matthew Dear's Big Hands, in which he acted as frontman, commanding the stage with a Bryan Ferry-like swagger ... Acollective - "Simon Says": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
A riot in a petting zoo, awkwardly captivating and viciously enticing - that is the mesmerizing musical experience of Acollective. With a seemingly infinite arsenal of genres and musical instruments, this energetic Tel-Aviv seven piece band have sparked a distinct freewheeling feeling to their sound - mixing up boogied-folk, electronic-jazz, psychedelia and a Middle Eastern-bluesy twang into a anarchical spree of drunken honest joy. One of Israel\'s most extraordinary indie successes, Acollective have been playing monthly shows to 1000+ capacity sold out venues, whilst headlining some of Israel\'s leading music festivals. The band tours Europe regularly and have quickly earned a dedicated grassroots following and a reputation for show-stopping concerts. Their unforgettable energetic stage presence has gained critical acclaim and extensive airplay in local and national radio and TV stations, and the band were given enthusiastic mentions in NME, Fly Magazine, Filter, TimeOut, Jerusalem Post and Haaretz, among others. Acollective have also supported Jose Gonzalez, Okkervil River and Woven Hand, and performed at Liverpool Sound City, TIME and In the City (Manchester). Acollective evolved in the backstreets of Tel-Aviv - originally intended as an exclusive club for cathartic escapism (with no aspirations of stardom), the band\'s early shows became a weekly cult gathering in Tel-Aviv, which soon translated to full houses around the country - all this without any label or ...
