Lost And Nameless Orchestra - "The Red Haired Boy": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
"Foot stomping, heart racing, exciting music..." As this fan attests, there's something about dueling fiddles, vigorous guitar playing, and an air-tight rhythm section that compels your body to move. Tastefully pairing a wide dynamic range and an intimate connection with the listeners, the Austin-based fiddle-driven folk rock quartet, Lost & Nameless Orchestra gets you out of your chair and onto the dance floor. Founding members Chris E. Peterson (fiddle / lap steel / mandolin / bass) and Patrick Conway (acoustic & electric guitars / vocals) met in St. Louis in 1993 and formed an instant bond playing fiddle tunes and Patrick's original songs. Their musical travels took them throughout the USA and Europe until the band settled in Austin, TX in 2006. The band has since grown to include 15-year old musical prodigy Kimberly Zielnicki (fiddle / bass / vocals / ukulele) and Nathan Quiring (keyboards / accordion). All four members are highly skilled and well trained musicians with a sincere love for making music together. The band's unique chemistry on stage creates an intimate atmosphere in the room and draws listeners into the music. As the intensity builds, it is not uncommon to catch band members dancing on chairs and fueling the fire of excitement in the room. After a standing residency at Flipnotics, a calendar full of shows all over Texas and Arkansas, and their first tour under their belt, Lost & Nameless Orchestra is currently in the studio recording their debut full ... Sahara Smith - "Are You Lonely": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Sahara Smith is a natural. Or as the Austin Chronicle observes, "She's the real deal all right." Don't take our word for it. Listen to her debut album on Playing in Traffic Records, Myth of the Heart, and you're bound to agree with the Dallas Morning News that "Smith is a revelation." The disc is hailed as "a gorgeous album for all lovers of carefully chosen words, rich imagery and ethereal vocals" by Texas Music magazine and "a richly impressive, intensely soulful debut album," by the Los Angeles Times. All that and more is to be savored on Myth of the Heart. It bows with the alluring "Thousand Secrets," which opens a window on the vulnerable places we all have, as Smith writes, "For every broken branch there is a mile of fallen leaves/But no one knows the river flows a thousand miles deep." Propulsive churning tracks like "Are You Lonely," "The Real Thing" and "All I Need" make feelings of longing and desire palpable, while the up-tempo title song sings about resisting the urge to love. Meditative yet kinetic auras grace Smith's reflections on being lost within love ("Tin Man Town"), empathy ("Angel"), mortality ("The World's On Fire") and life's travails (the closing cut "Twilight Red," which Smith wrote at age 13). And such songs as "Train Man," "Midnight Plane" and "Mermaid" embody the notion of poetry in motion with their evocative images of travel and places near and far. The album was cut in primarily live sessions in Los Angeles, produced by Emile Kelman, known ... From: sxsw Views: 104 3 ratings Time: 03:55 More in Entertainment

Mason - "Le Big Bob": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Dutch duo Mason make the kind of records that often defy being pigeon‐holed and given a label. Their productions have been destroying dance floors to tearing it up the World's charts since 2006, laying the foundations for more forward thinking music. Using Iason's classical violin training coupled with a love of diverse music and a hi‐tech apprenticeship in a ring tone sweatshop, together with his studio and onstage partner Coen, a man fixated with ancient synths and playing in rock bands and a mean vocalist to boot, the Mason boys are now forging their own unique path. This duo has the musical arsenal required to make everything from filthy late night dance club bombs to daytime radio anthems. These Dutchmen are unpredictable in both what is played in the club and what is created in the studio. The Mason sound takes a great understanding of melody and fuses it with technological know‐how sheer musicianship and dance floor savvy. It is dance music for the thinking man, but not so clever to be alienating and dull. Mason's critically acclaimed debut album, 'They Are Among Us' was released last Spring and features some interesting styles and flavours as well as guests such as legendary NYC rappers (Run) DMC and Kurtis Blow and hip hop UK hero 'Sway'. Also renowned singer‐songwriter Matt Hales ( AKA Aqualung) , Wonky pop pinup Sam Sparro and former Moloko chanteuse Roisin Murphy add their magic to this eclectic line‐up. Woodsongs 644: Eric Brace & Peter Cooper and The Richter Uzur Duo
[LESS INFO] 4 VIEWS | ADDED 13:35:15 01/20/12
ERIC BRACE & PETER COOPER have a created a body of work that reflects their literate sensibilities as songwriters, a love of harmony and wry humor, and their deep respect for the masters they're lucky enough to play with. When Brace and Cooper play together, it's something special. The pair's last album, 'Master Sessions,' is a tour de force that made its way onto numerous critics' Best of 2010 lists.Their most recent project, 'I Love: Tom T. Hall's Songs of Fox Hollow,' was featured on NPR's All Things Considered and Weekend Edition. It's a tribute to country music's greatest storytelling songwriter and Kentucky native Tom T. Hall. THE RICHTER UZUR DUO are each classical musicians of the highest caliber with successful international solo careers and intensive training from two of the world's most lauded musical institutions: The Moscow Conservatory and The Royal College of Music respectively. Their musical interests and abilities, however, are far from limited to classical music. In their teens and twenties, while developing into classical virtuosi, they cut their teeth in rock bands and delved into folk and world music. The duo's uniqueness is how they combine classical, rock and folk music and themes into truly original new compositions. The duo's latest recording is 'String Theory' and it was named best new release by Classical Guitar Alive in 2010.
