Our NTD correspondent chats with the creative directors and the shoppers to see what all the fuss is about. I'm Gina Shakespear in Melbourne, the fashion capital of Australia where UK fashion giant Topshop has just launched its first store. Despite retailers complaining about economic doom and gloom it seems Topshop has the recipe. Lets take a look. 'In fashion' looks straight from the catwalk have lured hundreds of young woman to queue up in South Yarra, one of Melbourne flashy fashion districts. Some have slept here over night, just to get the first taste of high-end fashion without the designer price tag. Topshop, who also plans to open a shop in Sydney has over 700 stores in 32 countries. It is renowned for getting stock replenished at least twice weekly, which means that fashionistas get garments that are in season. Seb asked me in chat recently if I actually use MySpace. I have an account there , yes. I actually even receive tens of visitors there each month. I admit that I really don’t even USE the site. Do you?
From all appearances, it seems as though MySpace has turned into almost a joke. They are working hard to rebrand the site and turn it into something unique that people will want to use again. However, I just don’t see it happening. When they first came up with the customizable pages, everyone loved it. We could make our pages look however we wanted… until it got out of control. Everywhere you look there are blinky things, strange graphics and comment pictures. It’s overload of a very bad kind, and people who actually care about such things seem to be the only ones using the site still.
Everyone I talk to who takes part in social media profile sites is on Facebook. LinkedIn is ranked up there as another site people feel the need to have a complete profile on. If I mention MySpace, I get strange looks or outright cynical snorts.
What are your thoughts? Are you still using MySpace?

Hopefully you are already a member of our Facebook community . There’s not a doubt in my mind that it is a community within a community. People are interacting like crazy. There are good things being shared and discussed, but I’m wanting to take that a step further, as I talked about in a previous blog post .
I’m looking to work with an app developer to come up with something unique for Facebook. I feel we need an app for our community – and others – which will allow us to have a zeitgeist app that lets us see the latest things being done by YOU in our community.
I want to know the top commenters and posters. I want to know who is the most prolific. The app has to be a free one. I know I need a tool like this. I know what it should look like, how it would work and what should go into it. However, I cannot pay a bajillion dollars to have it developed. I wanted to throw this out to the community and crowdsource an answer.
Think about using this in YOUR community. Have this zeitgeist as your main page, instead of your Wall. It’s something that would surface the intelligence of the community and introduce game mechanics. It would allow you – or anyone – at first glance to see who is active on any given page. It would be nice to have this information. Surfacing those types of statistics would be pretty awesome in my mind.
