UN Action On Palestine "Will Create A Major, Unneccesary, And Avoidable Obstacle To Peace" WASHINGTON -- US Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today spoke on the Senate Floor to discuss the Solidarity with Israel Act (S. 1595), legislation he introduced yesterday. The Solidarity with Israel Act, which currently has 15 cosponsors, would eliminate US funding for the United Nations if the Security Council or the General Assembly changes Palestine's current status in the United Nations. In his remarks, Hatch said that should the United Nations vote to change Palestine's current status in the United Nations "[i]t would be a deeply irresponsible action that brings into further doubt the legitimacy of the United Nations as a good faith actor in securing a more peaceful, more free, and more democratic world." Hatch added that the United Nations "has a mixed record at best when it comes to the treatment of Israel," and that this much change.
