Here's more. Thousands of people braved the dreary weather in Berlin on Sunday (January 1) to mark the beginning of 2012 with a traditional New Year's Day run. The organizers say more than 3000 people took part in the event, taking runners on a 4-kilometer circuit from the city's Landmark Brandenburg Gate, down the famous Unter den Linden boulevard, on to the Berlin cathedral and back. People of all ages participated in the 41st Berlin New Year Run%mdashsome even brought their toddlers in prams and dogs on leads. Despite the New Year festivities, runner, Nick Rote, said he was up and moving in time to take part in the run. [Nick Rote, Runner]: "I didn't party for too long. I was in bed by 4(am) and got up at 09:30. It's raining a bit which isn't great but we'll see; we will run anyway." Others felt it was a great way to start 2012. [Antje Goern, Runner]: "Great to run a bit, to have fun, and to welcome in the New Year with a bit of sport."
