Wukan Villagers to Elect Village Chief on March 1st
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me On March 1st Wukan villagers will vote for their village chief. Wukan is the Chinese village that kicked out all Communist Party authorities at the end of last year, as part of a protest against illegal land grabs. And after a two-week stand off with the police, the Chinese regime agreed, in principle, to meet their demands%mdashone of which was for fair local elections. Many suspect the Chinese regime does not want to let the elections get too much media attention. Reporters from Hong Kong's "Apple Daily" recently saw a large billboard detailing election regulations in Wukan, yet the next day the board had been removed. Wukan villagers told NTD on February 1st they had elected a committee to oversee the election process. Forty people ran for eleven positions. At time of report, the results were not out yet. The committee will oversee the election of new leaders to replace those who were dismissed after the protest. [Mr. Cai, Wukan Villager]:(Male, Chinese, First in footage) "There is a ticket office for each village. Only two villages are done, five villages remain. We elected the notary public and next month, on March 1st, we will elect the village committee." The original conflict in Wukan was over officials carrying out illegal land grabs. Villagers are still wary of the regime and question whether it will keep its promises, even after the election in March. [Mr ... From: NTDTV Views: 241 6 ratings Time: 02:40 More in News & Politics

Santa Pays Surprise Visit to Polish Salt Mine
For more news visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Follow us on Facebook ☛ me.lt Santa pays a surprise visit to children celebrating St. Nick's Day in southern Poland. Santa slid down the mine shaft of an abandoned salt mine that has become a popular tourist hotspot. Santa Claus may have a busy schedule in the lead up to Christmas Day, but it seems that he still has time for the children waiting for presents underground -- several hundred meters underground in the Bochina salt mine. This abandoned mine is one of the oldest in the world and has become a visitors' hotspot and an ideal place for children who can explore the deserted shafts and passages. Santa slid down the mine shaft and arrived with two angels to help him hand out goodies to the children in southern Poland who are celebrating St. Nicholas Day. But he told the children they shouldn't think that they can get away with being naughty, just because they are underground. "Listen children, remember that even though we are two hundred and forty eight meters underground, Santa Claus can still see you. Always be good because you never know when I'll be watching your behaviour," The children, dressed up in face paint for the occasion, were delighted by Santa's visit. "I didn't expect that we would meet Father Christmas underground and that he would give us beautiful presents." From: NTDTV Views: 33 1 ratings Time: 01:17 More in News & Politics

Thanks to CT technology, researchers can study mummies without disturbing their remains. He was in his forties when he died in Lower Egypt more than 2000 years ago. His brain and major organs had been removed and replaced by rolls of linen, indicating he'd been embalmed and mummified in a manner reserved for the high born. For fifty years, the mummy had lain intact and unexamined at Smithsonian Museum. No one knew anything about him, but then CT scanning technology came along and the mummy gave up its secrets. Anthropoligist Dr. Bruno Frohlich is now studying a mummy he calls "The Lady", a woman in her mid-40s born in the highlands of Ancon, Peru seven centuries ago. She's considered one of the best preserved Peruvian mummies in the world and the CT scanner is helping Dr. Frohlich get to know her better. [Dr. Bruno Frohlich, Anthropologist, Smithsonian Museum]: "What we can see now is that the body's internal organs are complete and there is very little animal damage on it. So that would allow us to take samples, for example, for short-term nutrition from the stomach, from the intestines. And the scanner will help us to do that because we can use what we call a biopsy-mode where you actually are putting a needle and you can take ...
