Experts say it could fetch tens of thousands of dollars. While the Coca-Cola brand was introduced in 1887, it wasn't until 1916 that its iconic curved glass bottle took shape. At an auction to be held on Saturday (December 3) among the items on the block will be an early failed prototype of the bottle and sketches for its design. The bottle and sketches have been in the hands of designer Earl R. Dean's family for the last 96 years. As the only other copy in existence is owned by Coca-Cola, auctioneer Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions expects the empty bottle and sketch to fetch far more than their original worth. [Darren Julien, President And Ceo Of Julien's Auctions]: "This bottle is estimated at 20-30000 dollars (USD) and it comes from the family of Mr. Dean, who designed and drew the bottle. We have the original sketch plus we have the original bottle, but anticipate that it's going to sell upwards of 100-200000 dollars." Julien says that the failure of the design is what makes the bottle so valuable.
