'All In - The Poker Movie' Exclusive Featurette: Women in Poker
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 08:19:44 04/24/12
Written and directed by Douglas Tirola, and produced by Susan Bedusa, Robert Greene and Tirola, ALL IN- THE POKER MOVIE chronicles the worldwide poker boom that started in the underground clubs of New York City and went on to be played at homes and casinos all around the globe. The film explains how poker has become the target of politicians who have tried to cut off the ability for millions to play and for many to make a living. This documentary weaves the quest for the American Dream, the ability to take risks, and the celebration of entrepreneurship with a game that began with conmen on riverboats nearly two centuries ago. Poker has become a metaphor for making it big quick, and though millions play it, poker seems unable to escape it's cinematic image of something done by people on the outside of society. The film's extensive research, archival footage, and interviews with today's poker celebrities, as well as social commentators such as Ira Glass and Doris Kearns Goodwin make this the definitive exploration on this worldwide cultural phenomenon.

In 1998, Dr. James Thomson perfected a method to grow human Embryonic Stem Cells in a laboratory environment. His discovery sparked a new debate in what historically has been a long line of moral dilemmas initiated by scientific advancements. "Lines in the Sand" provides the viewer with an unbiased presentation of facts regarding Stem Cell research. This documentary addresses the nature of Stem Cells, their purpose, origin and future use in advanced medical treatments. Can Health care truly be transformed through the use of Stem Cells? Up until now this question has been answered from the heart, not from an understanding of the facts. "Lines in the Sand" seeks to reverse this trend and provide viewers with the information they need to decide for themselves, free of coercion and spin. Minorities Make Up Over Half of Jailed Journalists in China
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me The Committee to Protect Journalists recently posted an online report revealing that over half of the 27 documented imprisoned journalists in China are ethnic Uyghurs or Tibetans. The whereabouts of two additional Uyghur journalists, who were scheduled to be released in 2011, are also unknown. Senior research associate and author of the report, Madeline Earp said, "The lack of information available about these cases is added proof that they were arrested to deprive their communities of a voice." Among those imprisoned include Uyghur website manager Gheyret Niyaz, who received a 15-year prison sentence after accepting an interview with a Hong Kong-based magazine, and Dhondup Wangchen, whose work on a documentary film on the Chinese regime's treatment of Tibetans led to his arrest in 2008. The number of imprisoned Uyghur and Tibetan journalists spiked after ethnic unrest in 2008 and 2009. News of this spike was censored by Chinese authorities. China is incurring huge expenditure in transferring and consolidating the Chinese population in Tibet. Massive investment has been made to build a network of modern highways all over Tibet. China can also boast of having laid the highest railway track in the world that connects Lhasa with Beijing. In fact, China often complains that its "civilizing" mission in Tibet is costing the government and people of China large amounts in terms of subsidies to an under-developed region. According to official Chinese statistics, the level of annual subsidies to the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) in the late 1980s was around 1 billion yuan or $270 million. However, all the infrastructure that China has built in Tibet has not made the lives of the native Tibetans any better; it has only taken the exploitative apparatuses of the Chinese government deeper. The findings are the culmination of a secret 7-year, $44 million survey project, which began in 1999.
