Zach Braff on All New People - the Guardian
Zach Braff might be best-known for playing the nervy, nerdy doctor JD in hit US show Scrubs, but he's also trying his hand at writing drama. Braff tells Kate Abbott about his play All New People, a dark comedy about four people stuck in a beach house, looks back on the unlikely rollercoaster of Scrubs -- and explains why, some day, he'd love to do a 'bumbling heist movie' From: TheGuardian Views: 27 2 ratings Time: 08:23 More in Entertainment

McDonalds ends ad after pit bull owner outrage: Skydiver attempts Supersonic Space Jump
[LESS INFO] 0 VIEWS | ADDED 11:26:39 02/07/12
McDonald's ad that said eating a Chicken McBite was less risky than petting a stray pit bull, shaving your head, naming your son Sue or giving friends your Facebook password has enraged pit bull owners and their supporters --- The radio ad for Chicken McBites only ran for a few days in the Kansas City area before the complaints started --- McDonalds's has appologized on social media sites along with a toll-free number with a recorded apology --- Rachele Lizarraga of Sacramento said she found it extremely offensive and reckless, with the quesiton of why would they try to promote the safety of food --- Lizarraga, who owns a pet-sitting business and is social media coordinator for Chako Pit Bull Rescue, started a Facebook page called "Pit Bulls Against McDonald's," launched an online petition calling for an end to the ad ## Nearing make-or-break time is one man's quest to make a record-breaking leap from near the edge of space --- Sponsored by energy drink Red Bull, Austrian athlete Felix Baumgartner, intends to skydive from a balloon in the stratosphere at an altitude of 120,000 feet --- If he is successful, he will become the first person to break the sound barrier outside of an aircraft --- He will also break a trio of other records that have stood for more than 50 years: Baumgartner's plunge would mark the highest skydive, the highest manned balloon flight and the longest free fall, at about 5 minutes and 30 seconds --- To make the dive, Baumgartner will ascend higher than four times the height of Mount Everest inside a custom-made pressurized capsule pulled up by a single helium-filled plastic balloon about 600 feet wide --- Roughly 35 seconds after he jumps out, Baumgartner will reach supersonic speeds and will continue freefalling until he is about a mile above the ground, when he will deploy his parachute --- Baumgartner says he is jumping for science with a goal to improve the safety for space professionals as well as potential space tourists

Matthew Dear - "Headcage": SXSW 2012 Showcasing Artist
Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He's had remixes commissioned by The xx, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service and The Chemical Brothers; he's made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical's Body Language. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none %mdash and he's just hitting his stride. Matthew Dear's 2003 full-length Ghostly debut, "Leave Luck to Heaven", is a suite of sparse, wickedly funky house laced with Dear's deep, distinctive vocals, and includes the much-loved single "Dog Days" (voted one of Pitchfork's Top 100 Songs of the decade). The record was met with rapturous acclaim from both the dance-music establishment and the critical press, including a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Dear's 2007 follow-up, "Asa Breed", is a considerable departure from Heaven's dancefloor excursions, incorporating the polyrhythms of afrobeat, the irreverent pop sensibilities of Brian Eno, and the austere beauty of krautrock. More four-stars reviews followed (Q and Mojo magazines), and Dear subsequently began touring with a live three-piece band, Matthew Dear's Big Hands, in which he acted as frontman, commanding the stage with a Bryan Ferry-like swagger ... Human Cost of Producing an iPad in China: Apple Consumer's Reactions
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me It all started with a few preloaded photos of Apple's suppliers in China that a couple of iPhone owners from the UK found on their brand new iPhones in 2008. The photos have since gone viral. It was not until then that some consumers realized that Apple products are not made by robots. The New York Times reported recently on the harsh work conditions at Apple suppliers in China. Now some consumers are saying they would rather pay more for the products. A recent New York Times report on the cruel working conditions inside Foxconn Technology, and other Apple suppliers in China, is getting a lot of attention. The report says employees assembling Apple products often "Labor in harsh conditions...work excessive overtime, in some cases seven days a week, and live in crowded dorms...Some say they stand so long that their legs swell until they can hardly walk." Moreover, workers also face serious safety threats, sometimes deadly. Two explosions caused by aluminum dust last year at two Foxconn plants killed four people and injured 77. Two years ago, 137 workers were injured after they were ordered to switch from rubbing alcohol to a toxic chemical, n-hexane, to clean iPhone screens. In recent years, there have been reports of workers jumping from dorm buildings in apparent suicide attempts due to harsh management practices. [Masco Calbone, Tourist]: "Safety comes first ...
