In the past coffee gre well here because of the cool climate. But now it is hotter and the Coffee harvest has dropped a lot. That’s why Miguel has started growing cocoa with the help of Soppexcca a local cooperative union. Hello friends my names is Miguel Angel Zelaya from Santa Rosa in El Cua. I am a member of Soppexcca cooperative. I am a small scale coffee producer.Just to tell you a bit about coffee – for many years coffee grew really well here because of the cool climate. But because of the warming of our planet the coffee in this area isn’t so good. So we are turning to other crops like cocoa. Cocoa is growing well in our area and I think it will be the solution to the economic problems we face in our families. Here I can show you a coffee plant. It’s not like the plants we had in other times, it’s not as green. It is coffee that is a bit malmatado.And here is the cocoa. It’s a really good cocoa that we’re growing. It’s an excellent cocoa plant.
