Technical adviser for the new Steven Soderbergh film, Haywire, Aaron Cohen was the guest tonight. Cohen is a former counter terrorism special Ops officer in the Israeli army. He also authored the book, The Brotherhood of Warriors, and is the owner of IMS Security. Sounds qualified to me! Soderbergh relied on Aaron to block scenes and included him on script development. He talked about what actors he worked with, and his relationship with MMA star Gina Carano on and off camera. He brought in some guns for a little show and tell and talked about the importance of making movies look as real as possible. Speaking of realism, Cohen also offered his opinion on the Steven Spielberg film, Munich. We went back and forth talking about filmmaking and the reality of being a counter terrorist operative. Great information if you are interested in how it is done in film and in reality... We did have some fun too with Aaron doing three excellant impersonations!

Incubus have had a string of bad luck recently. Singer Brandon Boyd had laryngitis and completely lost his voice causing the band to cancel a few gigs in Europe and now guitarist Mike Einziger has been taken to hospital with an undisclosed illness and the band have canceled more European dates.
Corey Taylor has gone public with his feelings about legendary producer Rick Rubin. Saying he is overrated and overpaid and he'll never work with him again. Corey was at a q%a session with fans in Texas when he let loose explaining how Rick showed up for 45 minutes a week and that during those 45 minutes he would lay on a couch and have a mic brought in next to his face so he wouldn't have to move. There is a lot more but Corey added that he still respects the producer's body of past work but thinks that the Rick Rubin of today is a thin thin thin shadow of the Rick Rubin that he was.

Throughout the day yesterday, my Twitter and Facebook feed EXPLODED with links and posts about my buddy Marc Martel of the band Downhere who uploaded a video to YouTube a few days ago which went viral. And by viral, I mean more than 1.5 Million views in less than 3 days! The video he submitted is a recording of himself singing a cover of the Queen song Somebody to Love as part of the Queen Extravaganza competition. Queen drummer/songwriter/singer Roger Taylor launched the competition only a few days ago in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the band Queen and offers the opportunity for winners to tour in the Queen Extravaganza Live Tour in early 2012. Music fans worldwide have suddenly discovered what we downhere-fans have known for years: that Martel's Freddie Mercury impression and likeness are beyond stellar. However it's not just an impersonation - Marc's actual singing voice lends itself not only to Mercury, but in the early days of downhere, he was often compared to the likes of Bono of U2 and even former DC Talk member Kevin Max. (I really should dig up a copy of Downhere's cover for U2's Beautiful Day ; my husband and I preferred it over the U2 version, but I know that's a bit sacrilegious to say out loud.) Marc has even ventured into singing opera in the past few years, which may seem a little farfetched for a rocker, but as one commenter stated, "This guy is the Swiss Army knife of singing!"
Though it may seem like videos go viral all the time, Marc stated in an interview with WGBL that the reporter he talked to from the Wall Street Journal on Friday said it truly isn't that common. Nonetheless, views today (Saturday) have grown to more than 1.8 Million total views, and strangely enough many fans including myself have noticed the YouTube counter seems to get "stuck" on the play count for several hours before jumping up again.
I have known the members of Downhere, Marc, Jason, Jeremy and Glenn, for about 10 years now, ever since a friend at Word Records introduced me to them and asked me to edit a promotional music video for their first album release. From the moment I first heard clips of their to-be-released debut until now, they have been my absolute favorite band. I've always told them that someday I expected them to get a big break like Christian rockers Switchfoot did in 2003 when their fourth studio album suddenly sold 2.6 Million copies after being marketed to the mainstream music industry. While this is certainly not the same story, Marc's new-found fame will certainly prove to enhance the awareness of Downhere . Over the years I have heard SO many new fans discover Downhere's music and say things such as "WHY aren't you all better known? This band has so much talent!" However, I also believe that God has used their journey to keep them grounded as the most down-to-earth set of performers that I have ever encountered. Not a concert goes by where they don't spend at least 30-45 minutes after the show in the lobby greeting every single fan who wants to meet and talk with them. This deep connection to their concert goers has established a grassroots fan base for them that has grown and sustained them as a band over a decade when many Christian performers have come and gone.
FINALLY an opportunity has arisen that will shine the spotlight on these guys who spent 9 of the past 10 years touring North America in a 15 passenger van. Media coverage by outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Huffington Post , and the CBC to name a few, has just started. Whether Marc gets a chance to perform with Queen in early 2012 or not is yet to be seen, but many fans feel it would be a travesty otherwise.

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for the public’s help in solving an armed robbery in Southeast Portland. On Saturday July 30th at 8:25 a.m., Portland Police officers from East Precinct responded to the UC Market, located at 12540 Southeast Division Street, on the report of an armed robbery. Officers spoke with the victim and learned that the suspect approached the employee at the counter and pulled out a large kitchen knife. The suspect lunged over the counter towards the victim then reached into the open cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the store on foot. The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, approximately 19 years old, 5’09”, medium build, wearing a red zip-up hoody, a white t-shirt, black/red/white plaid shorts, and black tennis shoes. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and you can remain anonymous.

Lorenzo also would have been forced to register as a sex offender. Lorenzo turned down that deal, and Boulder County Court Judge John Stavely set the case for trial on Sept. 7. Lorenzo was arrested Jan. 31 after a woman told police she was shopping in the 707 South Boulder Road store with her infant when she approached the meat counter and was asked by Lorenzo if she was finding everything, according to an arrest affidavit. The woman told investigators she noticed some motion behind the glass door, then realized Lorenzo was masturbating, the affidavit said. The woman reported the incident to management and police. She told authorities about another incident in the same store two years earlier when Lorenzo followed her around but didn't do anything, the affidavit said. When police confronted Lorenzo, he admitted to having his ""penis out of his pants,"" the affidavit said."

The vet tech was stunned, but quickly recomposed herself to tell the hunter she would do it for him so as to rescue the babies from such an awful fate. She immediately began scouring the Internet for an expert in rehab and release. When she called Carole Baskin of Big Cat Rescue it was agreed that the kittens would come to Florida, be raised for re-release back to the wild and the paperwork began. It took three days to secure the Florida import permit and time was of the essence. The only kitten formula available to the clinic was one that often causes serious dehydration in bobcat kittens. The second more critical factor was that their eyes would be opening any day and if they were to ever live free it was imperative that they not bond to humans. They never make good pets, but the bonding that takes place during the nursing stage could make them fearless of people and that would get them into trouble as adults. While Big Cat Rescue President and resident Rehabber, Jamie Veronica, hit the road to begin a 24 hour road trip to rescue the baby bobcats, Big Cat Rescue put out a call to all of the Tampa animal based charities and on all of their social networks that they needed a nursing mother cat who had kittens of her own. Jack Talman of FosteringIsCool.com found a mother cat but her kittens were too old and she was going into heat so there was concern that she may not have milk nor interest for new babies. Big Cat Rescuer, Merrill Kramer, called on Rick Chaboudy, CEO of Suncoast Animal League in Palm Harbor, FL and he said he thought he had a good candidate. Her name was Bobbi because of her half tail and she had given birth to 6 kittens of her own and then adopted two more. He found foster parents for all but two of the kittens and brought Bobbi and her brood over to see what she thought of diversifying her family. Introductions like these can be very scary because the mother cat can be overly protective of her own kittens and fatally strike out at the new comers. President, Jamie Veronica, has had a considerable amount of experience in this area though and had taken every precaution to make sure it went as well as it possibly could. Bobbi turned out to be a dream come true for three little orphaned bobcats though. She immediately pulled them in close to nurse and began to bathe them. The little bobcat babies were so startled that they hissed at her! She ignored their resistance and just kept on loving on them. Once they figured out that this strange smelling ""bobcat"" mom had the real deal to offer at her breasts, they were in love too.
