Global Government: A Disease or Metamorphosis? American Society of International Law - The Fairmount Hotel The Prominent Woman in International Law Award is awarded annually by the Women in International Law Interest Group in recognition of a woman recipient's contribution to the development of international law. The 2012 honoree and luncheon speaker, Mireille Delmas-Marty, has contributed greatly to matters related to the processes of internationalization of law, focusing on the interplay between national, regional and international norms as seen through the prism of the universalism of human rights. Professor Delmas-Marty has served as a member of the Commission on Reform of the Penal Code, President of the Criminal Justice and Human Rights Commission, the consulting committee for the revision of the Constitution, the committee on the creation of international criminal jurisdiction and the president of the committee of European Union experts in charge of directing a project on European criminal law (Corpus Juris). In May 2011, Professor Delmas-Marty was appointed as Special Adviser to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. Which problems is international law particularly well-suited to solve? Which seem to defy its regulation? What tools does international law have to manage this complexity? Where are best practices emerging? What has our profession learned in the last half-century? Is law, with its emphasis on rules and stability, conceptually and functionally capable of responding to the challenges of complexity? If not, how should law react? What do experts from outside the legal profession, from technology, finance, counterinsurgency, climate science, and risk, believe law can add? During the 2012 ASIL Annual Meeting we will address these questions and discuss how international law responds to complexity.

Rock n Roll TV ... the music news for you from me. Hosted by Share Ross. This episode - Puddle of Mud's Wes Scantlin arrested; Black Sabbath reunion not quite the same; Jack White solo album and no to Newt.
Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin was arrested last month after police discovered narcotics on him. He was pulled over for a traffic violation, the cops found pills and some sort of powdery substance in his possession. Wes seems to be having a rough time of things. He owes about $45,000 in back taxes to the feds and an additional $17,000 to the State of California and is in the process of getting divorced from his super hot wife.
The Black Sabbath reunion is making headlines again. Drummer Bill Ward issued a public statement advising fans that he will not participate in the band's reunion unless he is presented with an agreement that reflects his contributions to the group's success and longevity. Basically… he said he ain't getting what he feels is a fair share of the Sabbath money pie and that he deserves better than what the band management have offered him. The other three members have responded publicly saying.. they are sorry to hear he feels that way… the door is open.. but they are carrying on without him with Rick Rubin in Birmingham while guitarist tony Iommi is also battling cancer.

Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 electric guitars from his personal collection to the Mr Holland's Opus Foundation , a non profit organization that supports music education in public schools across the country. Per Eddie's request, The Foundation will distribute the guitars to music programs in public schools throughout Los Angeles where there are not enough instruments to meet the demand of the students.
"If I can help a kid discover a liking, or even a passion for music in their life, then that's a wonderful thing. Music has provided a good life for me and hopefully it can help make life better for others with this donation."
Kid Rock apologized for lighting up a cigar at a smoke free Travis Tritt show in Detroit and on the opposite coin, Rihanna was photographed puffing on a suspicious looking cigarette in Hawaii and went on Twitter to brag about its cannabis content. Ohhhh. Really? A pop star who smokes weed? How dangerous.

The motion was introduced after an earlier scandal, and many feel it is long overdue. Shortchanged: Understanding the Women's Wealth Gap
Women and Public Policy Program, Harvard Kennedy School Women now receive more college degrees than men and enter the workforce with better job opportunities than ever before. So why does the typical woman have less than half of the wealth of the typical man? How is it that never-married women have only 2% as much wealth as similarly situated men? Drawing on the most comprehensive data on wealth and on in-depth interviews, Dr. Chang shows how differences in earnings, in saving and investing, and, most important, the demands of caregiving all contribute to the gender wealth gap. She argues that the current focus on equal pay and family-friendly workplace policies will not ultimately change or eliminate wealth inequalities. The "wealth escalator'%mdashcomprised of fringe benefits, the tax code, and government benefits%mdashand the "debt anchor" must be the targets of policies aimed at strengthening women's financial resources.
