315 - Yoink, AirDrop and LaunchBar Refresher [Introduction Only]
[LESS INFO] 31 VIEWS | ADDED 10:39:20 09/30/11
[Introduction to Members Show] It’s a MacMontage this week - a collection of utilities, hints and tips that don’t warrant a show on their own.
Yoink - A peek at a new application that makes copying files in Full Screen Mode a snip.
AirDrop - Previously only available to newer Macs, this simple hack will open it up for all your Macs
LaunchBar Refresher - Not still using LB just for application launching are you? This segment shows you some useful actions and services.
Some great utilities featured in this week’s members tutorial
**Yoink** - A very smart way of copying files around your system. Originally developed for use with Lion and full screen apps, Yoink pops out a handy side panel whenever you start to drag a file. Just drag the file to the side panel and it’s stored for copying somewhere else - a full screen app or somewhere else on your system. Configure the shelf to open on the left or right hand side of your screen, or under your mouse - very neat.
If you’re quick, you can enter a prize draw to get one of 10 copies of Yoink available to ScreenCastsOnline members. Just send an email to screencastsonline+yoink@gmail.com before the 4th October to be entered into a prize draw.
**AirDrop** - Previously only available to newer Macs, this simple hack will open it up for all your Macs. Using a simple terminal command, you can enable Airdrop to work on most Airport devices that don’t support the newer PAN (Personal Area Networking) protocols. There are some caveats but this is a great way to transfer files between your Macs on the same WiFi network.
**LaunchBar Refresher** - Not still using LaunchBar just for application launching are you? This segment shows you some useful actions and services to get more out of LaunchBar. I take a look at some common actions and explain how to use "Instant Send" to act on files in the Finder. I also take a look at installing a Timer action, to enable you to run multiple timers through LaunchBar using an AppleScript created by Justin Blanton
The segment also shows you two new services built into Lion that allow you to encode video and audio files right from within Finder, without the need for any third party applications, accessible via LaunchBar or via the standard OSX services.
New to LaunchBar, is built in integration with Fantastical, the very smart calendar application that allows you to use natural language to set up your events. This segment shows you how to configure and use the Fantastical integration.
Finally, if you're using LaunchBar or any other application launcher, why use the Dock? Following on from a suggestion from Pat Mahon, I show you how to change your dock configuration to remove those garish blue lights and just use your Dock to see what applications are running. Check out the segment to see what I mean!

309 - Lion - Finder & Safari [Free Sampler Show]
[LESS INFO] 26 VIEWS | ADDED 07:55:38 08/19/11
Continuing with the Lion theme, this week I start to take an in-depth look at some of the core OSX applications supplied with Lion.
Finder - the OSX file management application & Safari - Apple's flagship browser. This tutorial takes you through all the subtle (and not so subtle) changes in these important applications. Both Finder and Safari have had some significant changes in Lion, both cosmetically, and under the hood.
In the first part of the tutorial, I take you through some of the principal changes in Finder. The sidebar has had an overhaul and there are some new tricks to learn. The Finder also includes a new way of "grouping" your files by use of the new "Item Arrangement" button. Some significant changes to QuickLook and some brand new features such as "All My Files" and some new ways to move files around using keyboard shortcuts.
I also take a look at AirDrop, a neat way of moving files between Macs using Lion with Zero Configuration - it just works (as long as your WiFi card supports it!).
The Finder section finishes off with the answer to the "missing" Library folder as well as some tips on accessing your Library folder in Time Machine.
The full show is for ScreenCastsOnline members and contains the following additional sections
Safari has some new features to explore too!
A brand new downloading mechanism - there's now a pop up panel rather than a downloading window, and this section explains how to get the most out of it. As well, as Reading List - a new bookmarks manager. Not too impressive on this first release but with a lot of potential.
As an added bonus, I also include a section on the new "[Lion Recovery Disk Assistant](http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433)" If you didn't manage to create an Installer disk during the original install process and you haven't got a copy of Lion to recover from, this is for you!

Amazing trick on how to get a $1500 worth Dell Adamo Laptop!
[LESS INFO] 51 VIEWS | ADDED 20:22:40 12/31/10
http://bit.ly/delladamolaptop Dell initially teased the existence of its upscale 13-inch Adamo laptop at CES 2009, and formally announced details and ordering availability two months later. We previously had a chance to get our hands on a preproduction version of the system, and have now been able to test the finished product. Adamo is a departure for Dell, a company built on selling mass quantities of mainstream laptops (Dell's Inspiron 15-inch is still one of the most affordable and configurable systems available, and an initial stop for many first-time computer buyers). Instead, it's a high-end, ultrathin 13-inch model that starts at $1,999 (there's also a $2,699 version) and partly shares a general design sensibility with the MacBook Air and the HP Voodoo Envy 133. Dell is pitching the Adamo as a "luxury brand notebook design for the luxury conscious consumer," which may not seem like the most timely of ideas, considering the current economic climate and the resultant growth in low-cost Netbooks. But it's important to note that the ultralow voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processor used in the Adamo runs rings around other recent slim laptops, such as the HP Pavilion dv2 (with AMD's new Athlon Neo CPU). And while you may be able to get faster components for less, the Adamo's real selling point is its design. There are no visible stickers or screws (even the usual Microsoft and Intel badges have been replaced--the logos are etched into a panel on the underside of the system), and it includes high-end features such as a solid-state hard drive, an etched anodized aluminum chassis, and a backlit keyboard. The end result is an enviable package that will definitely attract plenty of stares at the coffee shop or airport lounge, not just because of its sharp looks but also because, with a $2,000 starting price, you're unlikely to see many of them in the wild.

Aero Tv Fpna's Capetown Floating Freedom With Wings
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 03:10:15 06/02/09
A True 'Escape' Vehicle If there is anything that's missing from the Zoom Family Air Cadre, it's an amphib... and after seeing the FPNA Capetown (in its amphib configuration) at this year's Sebring Sport Aviation Expo, I might have to look at changing that. The $125.5K CapeTown is distributed by Floatplanes and Amphibs LLC, of Sebring, FL. The Capetown is constructed with an all metal anodized aluminum riveted airframe with ‘Ceconite’ doped fabric covered control surfaces. The cowls and wingtips are composite, while all fabric is UV-proofed as it is sealed and painted, offering a projected 20-year life. It is powered by a Rotax 912ULS (100hp) 4-stroke engine. The cockpit is over 50 inches wide, in a 2-seat side-by-side, adjustable configuration. The primarily clear doors are extended all the way to the floor, to offer what FPNA calls a 'helicopter-like' view out each side. Clear panels behind the cockpit enhance the view even further. The bird features full dual controls... Dual Yokes, hydraulic brakes, and dual rudder pedals -- with the throttle and throttle and flap lever located overhead, between the seats. Full span ailerons (deployable to 10 and 20 degrees), offer exceptional STOL properties, allowing for 200 foot takeoffs and 300 foot landings. The 1430 pound (gross) Capetown cruises at 100 mph and has a 500 mile range. Its stalls at a sedate 37 mph. Aero Tv Innovative Audio Panel Ps Engineering's Pma8000 B
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 02:47:05 05/28/09
An Evolutionary Upgrade Keeps This Audio Panel Series At The Top Of The Game While there is no end of news concerning the major companies that populate the GA world, sometimes its the quiet little companies that really deserve more of the attention. A case in point is PS Engineering... a little company that decided it could specialize in one aspect of avionics and try to be the best in the field... and to many, that's just what they've done. One of their latest efforts is the PMA8000B -- a new audio panel coming that should go a long way towards making those long cross-country flights speed by a little quicker. PS Engineering has added a new player to its product line, the PMA8000B-MP3. This Audio Control Panel incorporates all of the capability of the popular PMA8000B, but adds an internal MP3 player that stores up to one gigabyte of music... which means pilots can leave their iPods secure in their flight bags. Pilots may upload files to the panel using a portable USB Thumb drive. Once the Thumb Drive is connected to the audio panel by the supplied USB cable, pressing the Function and Transfer Keys automatically starts the transfer process. The PMA8000B-MP3 provides audio annunciations to keep the pilot advised of the status and the completion of the transfer. Front panel buttons accomplishes MP3 On/Off, Skip Forward, Pause, Random, Sequential, and Volume Up/Down. The music is distributed to the crew and passengers according the pilot controlled configurations, also easily changed 'on-the-fly.' The user interface is accomplished with secondary functions on the standard audio panel keys, with a female voice feedback that announces the modes. This is the same method introduced by the PMA8000-SR in 2005, which proved to be a very successful way to add functions, without making the everyday controls more complicated. The PMA8000B MP3 is a slide-in replacement for the existing PMA8000, PMA8000B, and Garmin GMA340 audio control panels. The PMA8000B with internal MP3 will add about $150 to the cost of a standard PMA8000B, with a Minimum Advertised Price of $1849. The Standard PMA8000B MAP is $1695, while the SIRIUS Satellite Radio-equipped PMA8000SR carries a MAP of $2190. Keyboard Mapping Software
[LESS INFO] 12 VIEWS | ADDED 12:36:23 07/03/07
http://live.pirillo.com/ - Community member Proximity write: >
Recently my keyboard has been acting up. My left CTRL key is being recognized as the home key and everything is just a giant mess.
My question is: Is there any program that I could use or something in Windows XP that can reset my Keyboard Configurations, or is this a hardware problem?
One thing you may want to check is inside your control panel: the Regional and Language Options applet. Click the keyboard button and double check that your native language is selected. You can also adjust a lot of setting from within this applet
If that does not work, you may need to search Google for a keyboard remapping tool, which will allow you to remap your keys on your keyboard.
Do you have any suggestions for Proximity?
