Cisco Live UK Day 3, Part 3
This is Cisco Live UK: Day 3, Part 3 You'll remember in Cisco Live UK: Day 3, Part 2 (www.youtube.com that we said that the Workforce Enablement demonstration shows the integration between OSISoft (one of Cisco's Partners in the industrial telemetry and asset management field) integrated with Cisco cross-architectures: so we have Borderless networks, Data Center and Collaboration technologies. We also have an application called CEBT -- which is a workforce enablement application. So in the demo we see a Wind turbine going out of specification. The demo shows live dynamic telemetry data. Steve Matthews resets the data to cause a malfunction and cause an alert. You see the data change -- the top right bar goes from green to yellow, basically a temperature alert. An SMS message is transmitted and, in this case, a telephone rings alerting the Control Room staff. The Cisco text-to-speech service gives a voice message saying that one of turbines has an oil temperature medium level alarm. The operator is told to check the turbine within the next five minutes, and is invited to press a key to dispatch an on-site engineer at the remote turbine, create a conference call with the field engineer by pressing '2'. The Control Room engineer initiates the call and the field engineer is called. A very simple but effective example and one could integrate with lots of other collaboration technologies. The demo itself uses a cloud implementation, the CEBT data is live, actually situated in ... From: Cisco Views: 331 3 ratings Time: 02:30 More in Science & Technology

Backdoor to the Super Bowl
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 04:56:53 01/24/12
Welcome to RideThePine.com
Did you happen to see that old lady giving Terry Bradshaw crap in the New York Giants locker room after they won the NFC Championship ? Did you happen to see that old lady celebrating with the New England Patriots after they won the AFC Championship ?
Although I correctly picked the New England Patriots and New York Giants to win their respective Conference Championship games on RideThePine.com , has there ever been two teams that have backed into a Super Bowl more than the Patriots and Giants?
I’m not so convinced that Baltimore Ravens Wide Receiver Lee Evans didn’t catch that touchdown pass. And that chip-shot miss by Scott Norwood ... Ray Finkel ...I mean Billy Cundiff was just heart breaking to the Baltimore Ravens defense that has carried that team for years.
And the Giants? They needed TWO punt return fumbles and a premature whistle to stop an Ahmad Bradshaw would-be fumble to win this game in overtime. I got a question for Giants fans out there, is Eli Manning really an elite quarterback when San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Alex Smith ended the game with a higher passer rating?
Hi Steve Weatherford . Its just so cute how you get so angry on twitter !
Joe Paterno died . I honor of him, I going to do the bare minimum and just report it.

The Changing Role of the Mobile Developer

The Changing Role of the Mobile Developer
Being a mobile developer today looks nothing like it did five years ago. These days developers are finding themselves in board rooms and being consulted on platform strategies, revenue models, UX design and customer service. Mobile developer portfolios are greatly strengthened when a candidate can point to an app in an appstore and discuss not only the coding challenges he or she overcame, but also answer the business and marketing questions that are sure to come up. Without an app, developers must still find a way to differentiate beyond code. Developers who have adapted to this new reality are thriving and many are building their own companies with much success. In this presentation, Pete Erickson, will discuss the shift that's taken place over the past three years and share his insights into the future role of the mobile developer. About Pete Erickson: Pete Erickson is a nationally recognized leader in the technology scene facilitating and speaking at events across the country. Pete currently oversees operations at Disruptathon and MoDevDC. Disruptathon identifies disruptive innovations and the people behind them through a series of live contest style events with stops this year in Vancouver, BC, San Diego, CA and Washington, DC. MoDevDC is one of the nations most successful regional mobile developer organizations with 1500 members and two meetups per month to accommodate the high demand. Pete also founded MoDevEast, a mobile developers and marketers conference and ... From: OreillyMedia Views: 471 6 ratings Time: 45:06 More in Science & Technology

Wirelessly connect to other iPads and work on the same ideas together, then quickly turn all your sketches, drawings and designs into a polished slideshow and present directly from the app. Now you don't need a conference room or an office with a whiteboard to brainstorm and share your ideas.

YOW! 2011: Steve Vinoski - Riak Core, Erlang and Frisbee Freestyle
[LESS INFO] 27 VIEWS | ADDED 22:08:44 12/23/11
Steve Vinoski is an architect at Basho Technologies in Cambridge, MA, USA. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the ACM. Steve is regarded as an expert in the areas of middleware and distributed computing systems, topics for which he has authored or co-authored over 80 articles, papers, and a book. He currently writes The Functional Web column for IEEE Internet Computing (IC) magazine, and prior to that, from 2002-2008, he wrote the Toward Integration column for IC as well.
Steve's session at YOW! 2011 focused on Riak Core , the distributed systems foundation for the Riak distributed database and the Riak Search full-text indexing system. It's implemented in Erlang, Steve's favorite language.
Besides being an expert in the domain of distributed systems and Erlang, Steve has been ranked among the top 100 Frisbee Freestyle players in the world. We talk about this, too, of course!
Steve's YOW! speaker page
PS: Sorry about the relatively low lighting (the LED light that sits atop my travel camera is not sufficiently suited to solve the low ambient light problem unless it blinds the interviewee... Travelling with larger lights might have to happen...). This sometimes happens in the dynamic on-location interviewing process (where dynamic implies the shoot locations change and depend upon what location is available at the time - in this case, we talked in the YOW! speakers room in Brisbane). The audio's great, though, as is the conversation, most importantly.
Thanks for joining us on C9, Steve! Keep on Erlangin' and Frisbee Freestylin'.
The YOW! Developer Conference offers outstanding opportunities to learn more about the latest practices, technologies, and methodologies for building innovative software solutions as well as the chance to meet and network with international software experts and other talented developers in Australia. Thanks to Dave Thomas and the event's excellent staff - Mary Catherine (MC), Lisa, Aino, Melissa , and others - for inviting me to this excellent pure developer event and thanks to all of the speakers for letting me take some of their time to record conversations for Channel 9. If you live in Australia, or aren't too far away, or just like to travel (who doesn't?), then you need to go to this yearly event. It's outstanding. There are many great developers down under. That's for sure. The speakers are exceptional—Dave and team set a high bar!
