John Cho and Kal Penn reprise their title roles in "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas," which picks up six years after their last adventure. Following years of growing apart, Harold Lee (Cho) and Kumar Patel (Penn) have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar's door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold's house ends with the "high grade" contents—and Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree—going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven—and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high. The 2004 cult hit "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" launched the franchise, followed by "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." The third installment is the first to highlight the guys' hilarious mishaps in 3D. It would not be a "Harold & Kumar" film without Neil Patrick Harris, who returns along with Paula Garces (TV's "Defying Gravity") as Maria; Danneel Harris ("The Roommate") as Vanessa; Eddie Kaye Thomas (the "American Pie" movies) as Rosenberg; David Krumholtz ("Mr. Popper's Penguins") as Goldstein; and Bobby Lee ("Pineapple Express") as Kenneth Park. Following years of growing apart, Harold Lee (Cho) and Kumar Patel (Penn) have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar's door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold's house ends with the "high grade" contents—and Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree—going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven—and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high. The 2004 cult hit "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" launched the franchise, followed by "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." The third installment is the first to highlight the guys' hilarious mishaps in 3D. It would not be a "Harold & Kumar" film without Neil Patrick Harris, who returns along with Paula Garces (TV's "Defying Gravity") as Maria; Danneel Harris ("The Roommate") as Vanessa; Eddie Kaye Thomas (the "American Pie" movies) as Rosenberg; David Krumholtz ("Mr. Popper's Penguins") as Goldstein; and Bobby Lee ("Pineapple Express") as Kenneth Park. John Cho and Kal Penn reprise their title roles in "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas," which picks up six years after their last adventure. Following years of growing apart, Harold Lee (Cho) and Kumar Patel (Penn) have replaced each other with new friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar's door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold's house ends with the "high grade" contents—and Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree—going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven—and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high. The 2004 cult hit "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" launched the franchise, followed by "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." The third installment is the first to highlight the guys' hilarious mishaps in 3D. It would not be a "Harold & Kumar" film without Neil Patrick Harris, who returns along with Paula Garces (TV's "Defying Gravity") as Maria; Danneel Harris ("The Roommate") as Vanessa; Eddie Kaye Thomas (the "American Pie" movies) as Rosenberg; David Krumholtz ("Mr. Popper's Penguins") as Goldstein; and Bobby Lee ("Pineapple Express") as Kenneth Park. Joining the ensemble are Tom Lennon ("I Love You Man") as Harold's new best friend, Todd; Amir Blumenfeld (TV's "Pranked") as Kumar's new best friend Adrian; Danny Trejo ("Machete") as Harold's father-in-law; and Elias Koteas ("Shutter Island") as Ukranian mob boss Sergei Katsov. Rounding out the cast are Patton Oswalt ("The Informant!"), Richard Riehle ("Halloween II"), Jordan Hinson (TV's "Eureka"), John Hoogenakker ("Contagion"), Jake Johnson ("No Strings Attached"), Yasen Payankov ("Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon") and David Burtka (TV's "How I Met Your Mother"). Todd Strauss-Schulson helmed the film, marking his major feature film directorial debut. The 2004 cult hit "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" launched the franchise, followed by "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." The third installment is the first to highlight the guys' hilarious mishaps in 3D. Women in Comedy The Masthead at Marie Claire has decided it's time to take a close look at women in comedy . Amy Poehler 's current lead role in the new sitcom Parks and Recreation sparked an entire Marie Claire feature on the funny ladies of late like Tina Fey and Kathy Griffin , along with the women who laid a beginning foundation in the realm of comedy such as Judy Gold , Roseanne Barr and Rosie O'Donnell . An exclusive interview with Caroline Hirsch , the founder of famed comedy club Caroline's on Broadway (New York City), sheds light on the hay-day of standup and the rise of the female comedian. What began as a cabaret in 1982, Caroline's soon changed to comedy when they hired Jay Leno in 1983. Hirsch addresses the career of the female comic as rough, with lots of rejection, but as the women's movement has changed more women have gone into comedy and succeeded. A powerful and groundbreaking statement for the woman comedian in the 80's made clear that beauty is of little importance, and "I'd rather be funny than beautiful". Joan Rivers rejected this however, refusing to be the ugly funny girl and still hold on to this today. Lucy Kaylin, executive editor of Marie Claire, expresses that we are in an absolutely unprecedented era, with women at the forefront of comedy.
