New Releases For February 7, 2012 - Press Pause Daily
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 04:00:00 02/07/12
This week’s new releases will bring a reckoning with it’s revelations of impostors in the darkness.
SHOW NOTES:
GAME 1: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
First up we have Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. This game is a single player action role playing game that has some heavyweight talent behind it, starting with lead designer Ken Rolston, who worked on The Elder Scrolls 3 and 4. Also involved was fantasy author R.A. Salvatore, who created the game’s universe, and comic legend Todd McFarlane who created the artwork.
The game itself will feature unique real-time combat with a in depth character creation system, that features many races and character customization. There are millions of skills, abilities, weapons, and armor to choose from. It has a beautiful open world, and features a Destiny System that will change the game depending on how you built your character, and the items you have equipped.
Combat will depend heavily on how you’ve designed you character, and there are also unique special attacks that are based on the type of weapons you have equipped.
If you love your role playing with a big side of action, then this sounds like just the game to scratch your RPG itch.
GAME 2: Resident Evil: Revelations
Next up we have the latest entry in the long running Resident Evil series making it’s way to the 3DS.
Resident Evil: Revelations features a brand new story set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and 5, and will feature series favorites Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Shortly after the creation of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, a major bioterrorism event happens and the BSAA is called to investigate. The game looks to bring the classic survival horror gameplay of earlier games, with action taking place aboard an infected ocean liner among other locations.
The game will make use of both the 3DS systems 3D visuals, as well as using the touch screen to help solve puzzles.
If you own a 3DS and are looking for some good creepy fun. This might be just the game for you.
GAME 3: The Darkness II
Next we have the sequel to the surprise hit game based on the Top Cow comic book series The Darkness.
The Darkness II again has you playing as Jackie Estacado, who has now become head of the Franchetti crime family, and has contained the power of the Darkness. Now that power wants out and there are also other who want the power for themselves, and will stop at nothing to obtain it. All of this precipitates a full scale Mob war, with you right in the middle of it.
As with the last game, this is a first person shooter, and you had the ability to use weapons or your Darkness powers to take out your enemies. This time, the developers have added what they are calling quad-wielding, which will allow you to use both weapons and Darkness powers at the same time.
There will be many weapons and powers for you to use, and the game will also have multiplayer options including a 4 player co-op mode called Vendettas that will run parallel to the main single player story.
With it’s intense comic book story telling, and distinctive noire visual style, The Darkness II could be a nice little FPS palate cleanser for those of you still playing Call of Duty.
GAME 4: Gotham City Impostors
And lastly this week we have an interesting downloadable title that sounds completely ridiculous, but awesome at the same time.
Gotham City Impostors is a multiplayer-only first person shooter that pits two teams against each other as they try to kill each other. The twist is that one team is dressed as Batman, the other as The Joker. Like I said...ridiculous, but awesome.
The game will have eight player simultaneous gameplay, and has a over the top visual style. The game will feature traditional weapons, like guns and knives. It will also have more outlandish weapons like a jack in the box grenade, and a rocket launcher made of PVC pipes. You’ll also have access to many gadgets such as grappling hooks, glider wings, and roller skates.
This sounds like something that could be really dumb fun. And as a $15 downloadable title, it sounds like an easy choice.
That will do it for your daily dose of Press Pause. You can always find all our episodes over at presspause.mevio.com . You can also check them out over at our Youtube channel: youtube.com/presspausemevio .

New Found Glory Live in Studio B - Part 1 - Radio Surgery
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 18:31:59 12/29/11
Part 1 of New Found Glory performing live at Mevio Studios in San Francisco For the full performance CLICK HERE
New found energy, new found purpose: that's what Not Without A Fight is all about. The first New Found Glory album to bear the Epitaph logo brims with fresh promise, showcasing a band comfortable in their own skin and eager to get back to basics and present it all to the world. Not Without A Fight is arguably the strongest addition to an impressive catalog with no less than three gold records and ... some of the most memorable songs of the past decade.
Album opener "Right Where We Left Off" is an instant reminder of the keen self-awareness that endeared New Found Glory to millions of fans worldwide in the first place. And naming their album Not Without A Fight? That's a nod to that other side of the group Epitaph owner Brett Gurewitz called "the greatest pop-punk band in history," the side that is scrappy, that's from the do-it-yourself scene. The side of a band who probably never should have been lumped in with some of the more teeny-bop friendly fare they've often shared the rock radio and TRL charts with.
Lead single "Listen to Your Friends" flips the script by rocking a verse even catchier than its chorus; "I'll Never Love Again" boasts a killer singalong. "47" has a hooky scream that breaks new ground for the Florida-bred five-some while "Truck Stop Blues" summons the potent urgency of the burgeoning scene that New Found Glory arose from, recalling a bygone era when they shared small stages with their friends in Get Up Kids, Piebald and Saves The Day.
Not Without A Fight packs together the best elements of fan favorite albums like Sticks and Stones (2002) and Catalyst (2004) with a reinvigorated drive making for a declaration that's fresh and timely. There's pop, there's punk, there's crunch, there's those irrepressible melodies and Jordan Pundik's instantly recognizable voice is in fine form.
"Nobody in New Found Glory loves anything as much as this band," says guitarist Chad Gilbert, by way of explanation as to how they have managed to maintain the same lineup - Pundik, Gilbert, Steven Klein (guitar), Ian Grushka (bass) and Cyrus Bolooki (drums) - for over ten years. "You fight with your mom. You don't hang out with her all the time. But you love her! You're never going to hate her. We're family. It might sound cliche, but that's what it is."
That family first came together in Coral Springs, Florida in 1997. Nothing Gold Can Stay (1999) and New Found Glory (2000) became classics thanks to hard-touring and good natured relationship building the world over, which ensured the next two albums (Sticks and Stones and Catalyst) would both debut in the Top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
As happens all too often, the uber-successful and beloved band found themselves delivering Coming Home to a group of relative strangers who lacked the same investment in them as before. By 2006, many of the folks who worked with the band at the label had been replaced by new faces, from the president on down. "At major labels, people are always losing their jobs," Gilbert points out. "Someone can love your band one week and the next week that person is fired."
With their recording contract fulfilled and in between management, New Found Glory seized the opportunity to have some fun while weighing their options, releasing From the Screen to Your Stereo Part II (something their most ardent supporters had demanded for years) and a split EP with their alter-ego, International Superheroes Of Hardcore.
"It brought this different attention to our band that we hadn't had in a while," Gilbert says. "Through the major label years, some of those lines got blurred because of some of the things the label did representing our band. With the release on Bridge 9 Records, we were able to do things how we wanted to do them. It was awesome."
In the midst of all of this, the band continued to write their next album, which they ultimately decided to record before choosing a new label. That's where +44 / Blink 182's Mark Hoppus came in, agreeing to produce Not Without A Fight at the studio he co-owns with Travis Barker. "He's an old friend of ours," Gilbert explains. "We had no money to make the record so we wanted someone with the confidence to do the album for free and get reimbursed later."
Eventually, of course, the label situation needed sorted out, as the guys in New Found Glory have no desire to be in any kind of "business" other than than business of writing great songs, recording them and playing them live. "When we announced that we were no longer signed to Geffen two years ago, Brett Gurewitz was the first one to call me," Gilbert remembers. "'People at Epitaph are all music fans and have their shit together."
And as for that spectacular accolade from the man running their new record label home? "It's crazy!" Chad says, laughing. "The Descendents could take that crown way before we could, or Screeching Weasel, or Green Day. I don't know why he said that! He's crazy. It's flattering. It's really flattering. But I don't know what to say!"
New Found Glory's first Epitaph album has no guest appearances, no frills, nothing but fantastic songs and powerful performances. "If you really listen to our music, you can't pigeonhole it. We play music that we love." Not Without A Fight is alternately the band's most streamlined and direct but powerful and broad album thus far.

"New Found Glory is back to where we want it to be: we tour, we play music and it's from the heart." http://www.newfoundglory.com

Chinese Military May Test Anti-Ship Missile on Jan 11th
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt For the past two years the Chinese regime has chosen to test new weapons systems on January 11th. The date is approaching again and this time it will fall just a few days before the Taiwan presidential election. A US defense expert predicts the Chinese regime will again choose the date to test a new anti-ship missile hoping to influence the outcome of the election. January 11th is a key date in the Chinese military calendar. For three out of the past five years, the Chinese regime has chosen the date to test new weapons systems on that day. It began with an anti-satellite weapon back in 2007, a missile defense system in 2010, and in 2011 the new J-20 stealth fighter. Research fellow at the 2049 research institute, Roger Cliff, recently published an article in Defense News titled: "Another Major Chinese Weapons Test is Coming." Cliff speculates the Chinese regime will choose to test its new Dong Feng 21-D anti-ship missile on January 11th, 2012%mdashjust days before Taiwan's presidential election. The new weapon could potentially destroy US aircraft carriers in the Taiwan Strait. It could have serious consequences for the security of the self-ruled island. However Taiwanese generals are playing down the issue. [Luo Shaohe, Defense Ministry Spokesperson]: "This is one person's research. Bed Transitions
[LESS INFO] 3 VIEWS | ADDED 16:02:08 12/08/11
Bed Transitions. Episode 833 is brought to you by BabyBjorn. Parents will freak out about a lot of things, but transitioning from a crib to their own bed doesn't have to be one of them. Most kids make the jump at 1.5 to 3.5 years old, but they will make the transition much easier "when they are ready." So how do you know when they're ready? Size is a great indicator, as well as whether or not they can (and will) climb out of the crib. If they are talking about a 'big kid' bed, they're ready. And night time potty training isn't going to work in a crib either. The next question is what size bed? Again, it depends on the child. Some will move right into a twin bed, some will prefer a smaller "toddler" bed. There are lots of choices in bed styles. There are themes like princess, boat or racecar beds, or simply small versions of larger beds. Convertible cribs/beds can be pricey up front, but the value is in years of use. Gro Furniture has a great model that starts as a crib, transforms easily into a toddler day bed, and finally a nice work desk, all without tools or complicated instructions. Allowing your child to help pick out the bed and the linens will help give them some ownership, and help with the transition process. Safety is still an issue of course. If your child chooses to go with a regular twin bed, rails on BOTH sides of the bed are important, even if it's against the wall. Without that wall rail, they could wedge themselves between the wall and the bed whilst squirming in their sleep. It's also important to take down the crib once the new bed is in place, to eliminate any confusion. Patience is key. Your child WILL wake up and get up in the middle of the night. They may just play in their room, but more than likely they're going to wander to your bed. Helping them back to their own bed each time will be challenging, but eventually, they'll understand and the transition to their own bed will be complete.

How to Thrift Store Shop for clothing:
[LESS INFO] 11 VIEWS | ADDED 02:35:59 12/02/11
FACT: Thrifting can be overwhelming:
> What store do I chose?
Once inside, where do I start?
When should I go?
Do I need cash?
Because those thoughts can flood your brain, its understandable why many of you just don’t do it all. BUT if you don’t do it all, then you are missing out on a really invigorating shopping experience.
I like to think of it as treasure hunting.
Every time I go to a thrift store I walk away with an amazing, unexpected find, at a remarkably bargain of a price. Best of all…it’s recycling!
>
I started thrifting because I love fashion, but could never afford (without going into debt) to buy trendy and designer clothing. I learned from an old friend who was a fashion stylist and another friend who used to work at a thrift
store how to navigate them successfully.
Step#1:
Before you even go into a thrift store you need to establish why you are going. (At least if you are a newbie.) This will prevent the feeling of being overwhelmed and frustrated. The best way to do that is to list what you need.
If I don’t have something in particular that I am looking for, like a brown cardigan or sequins dress, then my strategy is to hit up certain things that I know that I will always need, like flowy work blouses.
> Here’s my personal l ist of things that I always check when shopping at a thrift store:
Leather
Sequins
Jewelry
Dresses
Blouses
But I do recommend that you skip out on buying lingerie, bathing suits…you know items that get really personal.
Step#2
Research thrift stores in your area. Each one offers something different. I categorize the in three ways: pure thrift, general thrift, and boutique thrift.
Pure Thrift: usually bigger, warehouse stores.
Sorted only by sections like women’s blouse and men’s blazers. And also sorted by colors. Some even just have big piles of clothes that you have to dig through. They are generally not sorted by brands or quality, so this is where you really can treasure hunt and really find “gold.” This type of thrift store is my preference. I find top brand names, clothing with tags on it, etc. Because they are minimally sorted, the prices are usually the cheapest. But you have to thoroughly check for quality, flaws, weird stains, etc.
In the Southeast, Value Village is the best example. Also, oodwill Warehouse’s (not to be confused with standard Goodwill Stores)
Other thrift stores are sorted a little more. I call these general thrift stores.
You are familiar with their names mostly because of the charity they serve.
These places have less selection and the prices can be about 100 percent higher
and are conting ent on the brand name. Meaning, a dress that cost $4 at Value
Village can cost anywhere between $5 and $10 depending on the brand name.
Examples of these thrift stores are Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
Next we have boutique thrift stores.
Usually, these places also offer consignment items. (*Stay tuned for post on how
to shop and sell at consignment stores.) Wanna know how the owners of these
stores stock their shelves? They basically shop Pure Thrift Stores (see above).
These stores don’t take donations unless they are top label brand names in mint
condition, and most of the time, if it’s in that’s the case, they will either
flat out buy it or co nsign it for you. So for all of their work, you can expect,
cha-ching, higher prices for second-hand clothing.
In your area, you can google “boutique or designer thrift store”. Consignment usually comes up next to the stores, but I just explained why above.
Step#3
Once you determine which store type (see Step#2), research the nuances about that store. Does it have sale days? Does it open early? Is there a day that they get fresh shipment and stock the shelves? Do they have dressing rooms? Doing these extra steps will help you save more money and have an efficient shopping trip.
More tips before you enter:
* If you can, go early. Some thrift stores open as early at 7:30 am.
* If possible, choose a sale day or a restocking day.
* Dress comfortable…so you can
easily try on clothes.
*Even if there are no dressing rooms, if you wear
comfortable clothes you can easily throw on items in the isle, run to the mirror
to see if works for you.
* E xpect to spend a couple of hours shopping, at
least. Prepare for that.
* Do you shop with friend?
*I personally do better alone. I need to concentrate. If with friend, make sure they know the time that it will take. Also, what’s their purpose: to help dig or be second
eye. Make sure you know because it’s not a typical shopping trip.
Now, you’re ready to go inside.
Step#4
Once inside:
1. Get cart if you can.
2. Pick a section…for newbies, I say look for just try two. For example, long skirts and blazers.
3. Then go through that section piece by piece. Touch them all! As you get better, you’ll go faster, and take on more sections. Remember you’re digging for treasures, and the best treasures are usually hidden. So dig, dig, dig!
4. Try on and make sure you like the looks you’ve selected. If you’re going vintage, are the sleeves from the ‘80’s? Do you like the look after all when it’s on your body? Is the number size that you know fits you too small after all? Is it ill-fitting? Can it be tailored?
Trying on clothes is essential, especially in a thrift store . Again, if you don’t like it when you get home, you know that you won’t wear it and it will just eventually be donated back.
Now, let me dispel a myth.
“It’s a thrift store, so I shouldn’t have high expectations on quality and condition.”
Absolutely not! Why would anyone ever want to put on trash? You don’t have to settle for that. I only buy things that are perfect for what I need at thrift stores. If it’s not, I put it back.
You don’t have to resolve for less than wonderful: bad stains, tears, smells, etc.
Now, if it is something you really love, like a great leather coat and you think that you can work with the imperfection, then buy it. You have to weigh the blemish to see if it is fixable, cleanable or mendable…or if it is something that you can live with. If it is something that you can fix, how easy is that challenge? Do you want to send it to a tailor? Well then how much will that cost you? Weigh the costs, if it’s not worth it, then leave it alone! Walk away. You won’t wear it and will end up donating it back.
> My example: I am pretty handy with sewing simple projects, but I happened upon a
sequins dress made in the ‘80’s. I almost passed on it, but a friend that was
with me said…”You better not.” Now that I think about it, I should’ve bought all
the sequins I saw that day…and there was a lot. I got the dress for $5. I spent
$50 to shorten the hem. It was worth it, because sequins is impossible for the
novice to work with, and I didn’t want to ruin the dress. The dress was my New
Years Eve dress and it was amazing!
With that… Thirft stores are great places you can take fashion risks , with minimal costs and potential loss. You can pull an inspiration outfit online or just happen upon something funky. Buy it and work with it at home. If it doesn’t work out…oh well…it only cost you a few bucks, right? Now it’s time to donate it back.
My thing is that I love to repurpose outfits. Many of my shopping trips have been just to pick up things to repurpose. I may like the texture (leather), or the pattern of a dress (but plan to turn it into a blouse), I may find a dress but it’s too long, so I’ll shorten the hem; the same with sleeves. *Stay tuned for upcoming posts and videos on how to repurpose things.
For families...
Probably the best secret is taking advantage of thrift stores. Little kids, especially babies, get very little wear out of their c lothing. So scour the thrift stores for everything from packaged onesies to baby formal wear. You can find designer jeans and many things with tags still on.
Now that you have your big bag of goods. Next…what to when you get home….

Debt Reduction Committee: Update from Max
October 27, 2011 Fellow Montanans, We are at a pivotal moment in history. Here at home and all across Europe, economies are struggling under mounting debt. The world is watching to see what America will do. It's up to us to show the world that America can rise to this challenge and lead by example. That's what we're trying to do on the debt committee. We are meeting day in and day out, burning the midnight oil to find solutions to get our debt under control. As I'm working, I am fueled by the words of Montanans, who've told me over and over again: Max, get it done. There is no doubt that getting it done will include serious spending cuts. And a balanced solution should also include revenue measures to make sure everyone is chipping in their fair share. As we examine spending on the committee, we think about it in two categories. The first is mandatory spending. As the name suggests, mandatory spending accounts for programs that are required by law like Medicare. The second category, which I want to talk more about today, is called discretionary spending. Discretionary spending is the money we choose to spend on additional priorities from year to year. Discretionary spending includes important programs for Montana like highway construction. But, more than half of discretionary spending is for defense. And a big chunk of that half goes towards the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Last week marked the 10th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan. As we take stock of the ...
