The endangered Red-crowned cranes are gifts from Japan's Kushiro City Zoo. A pair of endangered red-crowned cranes arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday as gifts from the Japanese government. The cranes arrived on chartered flights in a wooden box, covered by a canvas with their picture. The male crane is named Big, 9 years and 3 months old. And Kika, the female crane, is 6 years 3 months old. This is the first time that Japan sends the red-crowned cranes abroad. One of the main reasons is to protect the endangered species outside of Japan, especially after the devastating earthquake in Japan six months ago. There are approximately 2100 red-crowned cranes left in the world, 900 of which live in Hokkaido, Japan. The cranes will stay at Taipei zoo where they will be quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, before they are scheduled to meet the public on October 30. David Bates The Katrina Paintings
[LESS INFO] 1 VIEWS | ADDED 02:20:26 11/03/10
David Bates: The Katrina PaintingsOctober 29 - February 13, 2011 Since the early 1980s, internationally-acclaimed painter David Bates has chronicled the people and places all along America’s Gulf Coast. His Blacktip Shark (1989), a rugged, monumental canvas that depicts heroic fishermen at work is one of the best-known and most visible paintings in the KMA’s collection. David Bates: Katrina Paintings boldly addresses one of the most severe and inexplicable tragedies in recent memory and its devastating aftermath. The exhibition includes more than 40 works Bates produced in response to 2005’s Hurricane Katrina and the devastation it brought to the Gulf Coast. His iconic images capture in dramatic fashion destroyed property and displaced people, as well as the emotional devastation in the wake of this event. Many of the paintings are monumental in scale, including The Storm, a triptych that measures 21 feet in width. In this series, Bates’ paintings affirm both horror and life and serve as powerful reminders of the ability of art to represent the spectrum of human experience. The Knoxville Museum of Art is the only venue in the eastern United States that will host this exhibition, which is organized by the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri. ;

One Eskimo, A Rocket To The Moon, New Politics, The Spill Canvas
[LESS INFO] 27 VIEWS | ADDED 22:44:00 09/18/10
UK-based One Eskimo is not just a band - they are a complete multimedia project. Their music follows a storyline, which has been animated to create a full visual and audio experience. This week on JBTV, watch these artists perform their carefully constructed ambient rock on the JBTV sound stage, before being interviewed by JBTV namesake, Jerry Bryant. Next up, the catchy power pop quartet, A Rocket to the Moon, stop by the studio for a chat with host Jenna Martinelli. In support of their debut album 'On Your Side', the band has toured with Motion City Soundtrack, Sing It Loud, fun., and as a part of Warped Tour 2010. The formation of Denmark-based rock band New Politics involved a bit of happenstance, after singer David Boyd came across an ad in the newspaper for a Battle of the Bands and entered on a whim, despite not having the necessary component of an actual band. Three weeks later, New Politics played their first show and placed in the top four of almost a thousand entered bands. This week on JBTV, host Kevin Manno gives his farewell JBTV interview, before starting his own show over at MTV next week, and heads over to the Dew Tour to catch up with this incidental band. To finish off the show, we're going back in time with a classic Jerry Bryant interview with The Spill Canvas. The band have been going strong for the greater part of the past decade, and 2010 will see three new releases from these rockers - the full-length 'Formalities' and EPs 'Abnormalities' and 'Realities'.

STORY:
An Indian artist paintS the unknown face of Mother Teresa to pay tribute to the saint of gutters. Sunita Kumar of eastern Kolkata paints a reflection of various moods of the Mother in acrylic on canvas, who was better known to the world for her extraordinary love and dedication to the poor and abandoned.
A self-taught amateur artist, Kumar enjoyed a very close relationship with Mother Teresa during her lifetime, and considers her paintings a labour of love and respect.
[SUNITA KUMAR, ARTIST]:
"She was a normal person like you and me. Her fondness for architecture or buildings or appreciation of that was all there but the people seldom saw that side of her as they mostly see her as a holy person. I wanted to show that side of her as well as my fondness for her, my affection.... I am showing it through my work, I couldn't have done it in words."
Twenty seven of Kumar's paintings dedicated to Mother Teresa will be exhibited in a joint exhibition with M F Hussain in New York city . The exhibition will start from September 18. Albanian born Mother Teresa made Kolkata her home and dedicated her life to he service of poor and destitute children. Mother Teresa, was beatified by the Pope in October 2003, paving the way for her official sainthood.
